Review: Sacrifice Me – Season Two – Part One by Sarra Cannon

Sacrifice Me, Season Two: Part 1 by Sarra Cannon My rating: 5 of 5 stars Before I start, I need to ask you if you have read Season One of Sacrifice Me? If not, go here http://amzn.eu/gF3i7nI and read book one, then continue with the series because you are definitely going to want to have read them before starting on this one (I would say it was possible to start with this book but reading Part…

Review: Random Illustrated Facts: A Collection of Curious, Weird, and Totally Not Boring Things to Know

Random Illustrated Facts: A Collection of Curious, Weird, and Totally Not Boring Things to Know by Mike Lowery My rating: 4 of 5 stars Random Illustrated Facts: A Collection of Curious, Weird, and Totally Boring Not Things to Know is, as you can probably work out, a book of facts. With a difference. Each and every fact has been hand illustrated. I am a lover of random facts. I quite often scour…

Review: Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe
Review: Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe

Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe by Stacy King My rating: 4 of 5 stars A beautifully illustrated telling of classic Poe tales. I was previously familiar with all the tales depicted in this book and feel like the illustrations definitely do the stories justice. If you’re a fan of manga or Poe then I’d definitely recommend you read this graphic novel. Fantastic. Thanks to Netgalley…

Review: Dark Matter

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch My rating: 5 of 5 stars Dark Matter by Blake Crouch crosses boundaries that I have never read before. I’ve read science fiction but nothing like this. I struggled with the first 50 or so pages of this book, almost to the point of giving up but I am glad I stuck with it. It does start to pick up as we get further along. It must have done otherwise I wouldn’t have given…

I’ve been a bit quiet lately, I’ve been feeling a little off about reviewing – not really been able to find the words to put down. I’m hoping over the next week or so to catch up on a few reviews and get myself back into the swing of things.
For Septemeber, I managed to read eleven books of varying sources. From iBooks, Netgalley, Amazon, Advanced Reading Copies and my own personal paperback collection.
From September’s reads, I have a few favourites.
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I bought this book from Amazon for two reasons. The first was because so many people in my book group had said it was a good read and the second was because I wanted to have read it before I see the film due to be released soon.
The Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn. This was a Netgalley Advanced Reading Copy. I read this on a whim and really enjoyed the story. My review will be live on 2nd November 2017 via this link.
Shifters Fate by Alyssa Rose Ivy. This was an Advanced Reading Copy via Sarra Cannon. This is the first book in the Willow Harbor Series. You can read all about the series here.
This month I also started reading the Preacher series of Graphic Novels by Garth Ennis. I read these as after watching season two of the Amazon Prime TV Show based on the same novels, I fell in love. I loved the TV show and HAD to read the books they were based on. (This is one of those reviews I am behind on).
Anyway, thanks for reading and stay tuned for more to come soon.
September 2017 Reading Summary I've been a bit quiet lately, I've been feeling a little off about reviewing - not really been able to find the words to put down.

Review: Fowl Language: The Struggle Is Real
Review: Fowl Language: The Struggle Is Real

Fowl Language: The Struggle Is Real by Brian Gordon My rating: 3 of 5 stars This book is a comical look into the world of parenting, but as ducks. The author has created a normal, human family lifestyle and the issues they face but made all of the characters ducks. In my opinion, the characters being ducks is neither here nor there, I don’t feel that it adds anything to the issues raised, nor…

Review: Halloween Carnival Volume One
Review: Halloween Carnival Volume One

Halloween Carnival Volume 1 by Robert McCammon My rating: 4 of 5 stars Well I had fun with this book. Horror is my favourite genre and lately I’ve become more accustomed to books that are collections of short stories. This is a fantastic collection of short horror stories, from Strange Candy at the start right through to the last story each one is fantastic in their own way. However, for me, my…

Review: The Little Red Wolf
Review: The Little Red Wolf

The Little Red Wolf by Amélie Fléchais My rating: 4 of 5 stars Meet the Little Red Wolf. Inspired by the fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood, we follow as Little Red Wolf takes a basket of food to his grandmother. This was a fun and interesting flip side to the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The book isn’t set out like a standard graphic novel but rather consists of short simple sentences to…

Review: Tunnels of Blood (The Saga of Darren Shan, #3)

Tunnels of Blood by Darren Shan My rating: 3 of 5 stars Mr Crepsley and Darren are back again in more adventures as a vampire and his assistant. This time, Mr C is contacted by an old friend, who also happens to be a vampire general. Taking Darren and Evra with him, Mr C leaves the Cirque Du Freak on a mission. As with the other two books, the writing in this one is simplistic and normally I…

Review: Suee and the Shadow
Review: Suee and theShadow

Suee and the Shadow by Ginger Ly My rating: 4 of 5 stars Meet Suee. And her shadow. Suee’s shadow is not like other shadows. Suee’s shadow is alive. Follow Suee’s journey as she watches all her “friends” (she prefers not to have any friends) turn into zeroes. What a cute graphic novel. Originally released in separate issues, this version is the complete issues. I felt like the shadow was the main…

Review: Ready Player One
Review: Ready Player One

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline My rating: 5 of 5 stars I read this book off the back of a very high number of positive reviews from my fellow reading friends over at Book Club on Facebook. I was really excited to start it, purely based on the number of people that rated it highly AND that a friend that doesn’t read very often had read it 3 times in a very short space of time.…

Review: The Doll House
Review: The Doll House

The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan My rating: 5 of 5 stars Where do I start with my review of The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan? What a fantastic read. As Morgan’s debut novel I went in with low expectations. Recently I have had a spate of bad luck when it comes to decent crime thrillers so didn’t want to get too excited before I started. However, right from the off I was completely and utterly…

This month I read 17 books. 16 shown above and also the (very) short story of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
I have rated and reviewed all of these books on my blog, although some reviews are not yet scheduled to be released due to the release dates of the books.
In the list above, I have ranked the books according to my favourites. This is not dependant on their ratings. Sometimes a book I rate 3 stars becomes a favourite or a book I rated 5 stars falls lower down the list.
Before I go on to talk about some of the books, here is the compiled lists of where these books came from:
7 from Netgalley 3 from the Library 1 from the Author as an Advanced Reading Copy 3 from iBooks 2 from Personal Collection
My favourite book of August was one from NetGalley, suggested to me by a friend over in book club, who is also a NetGalley member. Counting Wolves by Michael F Stewart is a book that combines mental health with fairytales. Set in a psychiatric ward, this story is so powerful I couldn’t put it down. Read my full review here.
The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan was the second crime thriller I have recently read. I used to read them all the time, but when I found YA/Fantasy I sort of drifted away. This book, coupled with Memory Man by David Baldacci, has reawakened a love for this genre and I can’t wait to read some more. My full review will be available to read on my blog from 14th September 2017 when the book is officially released. (Check out my review of Memory Man here).
Sons of Anarchy Volume 4 was my favourite graphic novel of the month. I recently (earlier this year) finished watching the TV show and was (as many others were) completely and utterly heartbroken when it ended. This was the perfect way to carry on with a bit of SoA action. Read my review here.
Anyway, that’s it for this month, hit that follow button to be updated when I post 🙂

Review: The Vampire’s Assistant – Darren Shan #2

The Vampire’s Assistant by Darren Shan My rating: 4 of 5 stars Darren made the difficult decision to become a half-vampire to save his best mate Steve Leopard’s life. Now, he must leave his friends and family behind as he travels cross-country with the vampire Mr Crepsley and the Cirque du Freak. The Vampire’s Assistant is not for the squeamish or faint-hearted. How long can Darren go before he…

Review: Lie With Me
Review: Lie With Me

Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant My rating: 2 of 5 stars 700 pages of “Do I really have to read this?” and 200 pages of “Yep, That’s what I thought was going to happen!” That’s the best way for me to sum up this book. I really had figured out what was going to happen a long while before it happened. As for the characters, the main character (and also the narrator) was awful. Whether that was…

Review: Cirque Du Freak
Review: Cirque Du Freak

Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed this book. Told from the perspective of a young boy (Shan) the story is quite simplistic in its language as you would expect from a child of the main characters age, but it breaches barriers between the child and adult worlds. Darren and his friend go to see a freak show. Freak shows are banned but there is one still travelling…
