Here’s when you should switch to the stereo audio component in Boom 3D

1. We’ve come across some rare but cumbersome audio issues where certain stereo audio is being wrongly detected as 5.1 multichannel audio. Here they are:

The soundtrack gets buried in noise or other ambient audio.

Music plays in bursts and the output is not smooth and continuous.

Boom 3D filters out music and plays only voice. (for example in a movie, you can only hear the background music, and the dialogue is subdued.

Here’s how you can confirm whether any audio issues you’re experiencing, are related to the above:

Open the Boom dropdown on your Mac’s menu bar.

Check if ‘Multichannel audio’ or ‘Multichannel audio playback’ are mentioned (Refer the screenshots below). If yes, go ahead and switch to the stereo audio component and check whether the audio issues are resolved.

2. Another issue that some users may come across - Certain games that do not support 5.1 audio, crash when used with Boom 3D. The below fix can be used in these cases as well.

How to switch to the stereo audio component for Boom 3D

Open Boom 3D’s main window.

Go to the ‘About’ section from the dropdown menu on the top right-hand corner of Boom 3D.

Click the ‘Use Stereo Audio Component’ button on the bottom left-hand corner.

Click ‘Proceed’ and download the audio component installer from the webpage that opens up.

The installer will then install the stereo component for Boom 3D.

No audio during calls?

1. “Share computer audio” is not working during calls via apps like Teams, Zoom, Skype, etc.? Suppose you have called a person/group of people. When you start sharing computer audio: - you do not hear any voice of the people in the call - your computer audio is also not shared.   Follow these steps: In the app (Microsoft Teams used as an example below) : In sound output device settings, select the physical output device like Headphone, Internal Speakers. 

For example, to do this in Microsoft Teams, go to the Teams menu, click ‘Preferences’, then click on the ‘Devices’ tab.

Stop and start screen sharing again along with computer audio. You will now be able to hear the voices of people in the call without Boom FX. Your computer audio will be shared with Boom FX.

2. You cannot hear voice of the people in the call?

Suppose you have called a person/group of people.

- You do not hear any voice of the people in the call 

Follow these steps:

In the app (Microsoft Teams used as an example above) : In sound output device settings, select the physical output device like Headphone, Internal Speakers.

Now you can hear the voice of the people in the call without Boom FX.

3. Alternatively, you can try turning off the option "Allow unsupported audio driver" in Boom 3D settings. This may resolve the issue if it is related to an unsupported audio driver.

Notification for Third Party Audio Driver

There might be third-party audio enhancement application or third-party audio drivers installed on your system. When this driver/application works with Boom, it might cause the audio enhanced by Boom to be distorted or you might not be able to hear any sound.

To avoid such problems, when the third-party application switches the sound output to an audio driver in System Preferences, Boom turns off its effect and displays a notification saying “Unsupported Audio Driver”.

To resolve this:

- You have to quit the application, which is using this driver.

- Launch the Activity Monitor and search for the name of the app. Make sure that no Helper of this application is running in the background. If you find any helper application with the same name, quit the Helper application by clicking on ‘X’ mark of Activity Monitor.

However, if you want to hide the “Unsupported Audio Driver” notification, you can do that by unselecting the option ‘Notify me when unsupported audio driver is selected’ from the Boom Settings.

Settings option "Allow Unsupported audio driver”:

If you are recording computer audio OR sharing computer audio during calls OR using any other Audio enhancement apps which you feel are compatible with Boom (Compatible means: Audio quality Is retained) then you can turn ON this option so that you can use these features when Boom is running. Otherwise it is recommended to turn off this option.

At Boom, we constantly listen to our users' feedback and their concerns and incorporate improvements addressing these concerns. Our effort is aimed at giving the best and personalized audio listening experience to our customers.

With the latest update Boom 3D v1.2.4, we are introducing a new feature to easily select the sound output device within the app itself.

Read on to find the full rundown of what has changed under the hood with this latest update. And if you’d like to start Boomin’ right away, feel free to jump ahead and download Boom 3D for Mac now.

Introducing A New Option To Switch Sound Output Device

We have provided a new option within the app called 'Output Device' from where you can now select or change your sound output by clicking on “O/P Device” option from the status menu or from the main app screen (please refer to the screenshots).

Benefits for you

At times, on your Mac, you cannot hear any audio. This happens when your Sound Output device is selected as AirPlay or HDMI but it is muted, and you’re trying to listen to audio on System Speakers without knowing that AirPlay or HDMI is selected as your Sound Output. But worry no more! With this update Boom 3D introduces the new “O/P device” option, which will help you to check which is your active Sound Output within the app and you can unmute AirPlay or HDMI to avoid such issues. You can also change your audio output to system speakers or headphones.

Notification for Third Party Audio Enhancement App

There might be third party audio enhancement application or third party audio drivers installed on your system.When this driver/application works with Boom, it might cause the audio enhanced by Boom to be distorted or you might not be able to hear any sound.

To avoid such problems, when the third party application switches the sound output to an audio driver in System Preferences, Boom turns off its effect and displays a notification saying “Unsupported Audio Driver”.

To resolve this:

- You have to quit the application which is using this driver.

- Launch the Activity Monitor and search for the name of the app. Make sure that no Helper of this application is running in the background. If you find any helper application with the same name, quit the Helper application by clicking on ‘X’ mark of Activity Monitor.

Now select your preferred Sound Output like Headphone or Internal Speakers from the “O/P device” option.

However, if you want to hide the “Unsupported Audio Driver” notification, you can do that by unselecting the option 'Notify me when unsupported audio driver is selected' from the Boom Settings.

How To Customize Equalizer In Boom 3D On Your Mac & Windows?

Perhaps you have a lovely pair of bass-heavy headsets that you want to tone down a little. Or maybe you’re a jazz enthusiast and don’t want the bass to be too boomy. If you’re looking for a deeper sound, or more punch or bass that will shake your windowpanes, creating a custom equalizer can help you to find your optimum sound.

Boom 3D lets you adjust your music by selecting from one of several presets, or by creating a custom equalizer with just the slide of your fingers.

To customize your equalizer in Boom 3D:

·     Open Boom 3D

·     Hover the mouse pointer over or near any band in the equalizer to see the frequency represented by that band along with the markings. Click on the frequency value and put a value of your choice.

·     Or, you can drag the knob in the graph for more precise adjustments in terms of values.

·     Once you make a change in the equalizer settings by fine-tuning the frequencies, the preset selector changes to a section where you need to enter a new name for it.

·     Name your new preset. You can either replace your existing presets or create a new one.

·     Custom presets can be selected or edited from the same drop-down list that shows the array of presets available in Boom 3D.

Tip: To achieve your desired sound by customizing the equalizer, play one of your favorite songs, and start modulating the frequencies up or down to see what you like best.
