this is your reminder that it is okay and necessary to break your fast if you have to.
things that qualify having to break a fast (or even low cal restriction)
🦋 heart palpitations
🦋 chest pain
🦋 severe dizziness / fainting
🦋 excessive shakiness (*this, along with a few of the other points, can be symptoms of low blood sugar, which can be very dangerous*)
🦋 physical illness (like catching a cold)
🦋 severe weakness (for example, can barely walk up the stairs)
🦋 needing to operate heavy machinery (pls do NOT drive when fasting for a long time)
🦋 inability to effectively work (for my full-time workers: if it’s getting in the way of you doing your job [or school] well, break the fast)
🦋 if you are using / planning on using drug$ (including OTC) or alc0hol
i just (reluctantly) broke my 60 hour fast, at 9pm, with protein pasta & fruit (250cals) bc i felt like i was going to have a heart attack (i have heart problems). yes, it’s late at night, & yes it’s carbs, but i chose to so i would wake up tomorrow.
i could have fasted for longer, but remember:
the goal is to lose weight, NOT to end up in the hospital or d3ad.
reminder: when breaking an extended fast, do not binge. i know it’s hard, but you do not want to get refeeding syndrome, bc that can also land you in the hospital or d3ad. take it slow. you’ll thank yourself later
*low blood sugar is very serious & can have devastating impacts. if you are fasting, always have a high sugar item, like glucose tabs or candy, with you! if you feel any of these symptoms, eat the candy. it sucks, but it’s better than the consequences of not eating it*
