another thing about veilguard is the woobification and flattening of... everything. you see it most obviously with the crows, who are more valorous freedom fighters than ruthless, morally grey assassins. but you see it with the wardens too, with flynn.

i dont doubt that there are some wardens out there who would have wanted to help flynn as they did in the game, but i can't help but feel that any other game would have had flynn survive the joining and forcibly join the wardens, whether they wanted to or not.

(also how did antoine and evka even do the joining ceremony? afaik, they don't hold any significant rank – how did they get the archdemon blood?)

Better late than never!

This is from my unnamed Kallistair Prince and Knight AU, in which Kallian is a knight for the royal family and an escort to Prince Alistair from Kinloch Hold, to his arranged marriage in Denerim. So far, I've written a few unconnected random scenes for it – and here's the beginning of another!

Monarchies were all about spectacle. Fereldans liked to pretend they were above that by being below it. They weren't like the Orlesians with their fancy masks and political games, nor were they like the Antivans with their numerous princes and assassin guilds. No, Fereldans liked to pretend that their royalty were “ordinary”. Ser Kallian clenched the hilt of her sword in its ceremonial position, the blade pointed to the floor. The rest of the Order of Calenhad were stood similarly in a large ring around the palace's busy ballroom, and all eyes were on Queen Anora and her newest Theirin groom.
