Universal Randomness
11 posts
Love all things whimsical and believe we should always retain the a little of the magic and wonder of childhood in life. This blog has hopes of discussing a range of diverse topics from the mundane to philosophical and serves to reach out to people of all walks of life. Simply put, it's a celebration of our common humanity but also our individuality - a blog for people and about people, life, relationships, love, the full spectrum of human emotions in all its shades but also embraces the complexity of human thoughts and ideas and what we are capable of at our best:) a daring mish-mesh and a happy pot-luck of random ruminations.

Depression
DEPRESSION My mind is a hamster caged and on a wheel – whirring in ceaseless circles feeding on its  own momentum- inexorable merry-go-round until  suddenly hit by a new thought  it catches itself  like Isadora’s scarves under tragic wheels - seamless, eternal, inanity.  Circularity, the order of the day – (round and round the mulberry bush we go until we all fall down).  Traversing a thousand stationary miles,  lapping at the waters of a mirage: speed, purpose and  such higher things.  Stuck in a rut.  An impeccable O - terrifying in its perfection, no escape.  - A poem about the scourge that is Depression. If you have ever felt the crippling sense of hopelessness that motivated this poem, know that you are not alone.

Insomnia Remedies
Insomnia is such a pain. Having been a sufferer for years, I have as they all say, "tried everything" from aromatherapy and Ayurveda to acupuncture (gasp!) with varying levels of success.
After years of investigation, I have set out a list of the only things that have helped at all. I am finally getting at least 6-7 hours of undisturbed sleep. This is such a break-through that I just have to share it - this is my contribution to mankind:)
Of course, you have to prep yourself for bed and try as far as possible to keep regular hours. Also, run away from caffeine like the plague anytime after 1pm.
The other important and oft overlooked link in the mystery that is insomnia is the combination of the following potent insomnia busters.
B50 Complex
This helps reduce anxiety and stress levels which as you imagine are the enemies of sleep. I used to feel so wound up and frantic with anxiety over imagined calamities and the 'what ifs' which worsened by bouts of insomnia.
Chronically stressed people have low levels of B vitamins which leads to depression which in turn leads to insomnia. This is a vicious merry-go-round you wouldn't want to deal with.
The B50 complex really helped to soothe and relax my mind and mine is as restless as they come. This was a real life saver.
Calcium and Magnesium tablets
You have got to take these 2 babies together - meet the little known sleep boosting duo. Magnesium is cited as the best relaxation mineral there is, period. When taken with calcium, it can perform wonders. It is possible that many people suffer from insomnia as a result of a deficiency in one or both of these minerals.
Zinc tablets
Which brings us to my all-time favorite insomnia buster heavy-weight champion - Zinc in the form of Zinc Gluconate. It turns out that a zinc deficiency is a key culprit in causing insomnia.
Personally, I got the best result after adding Zinc supplements in my cocktail of daily supplements. The change is rather encouraging - I now sleep like a baby until the alarm goes off and wake up refreshed.
This is in the nature of a minor miracle for me and would be glad if it helped anyone else. Check out the actual products I used on my blog: www.rainteafairydust.blogspot.com

Insomnia
I have been suffering from insomnia for what seems like an eternity. It always starts the same way - my hopefully jumping into bed after downing yet another over-the-counter remedy followed by the inevitable endless tossing and turning into the wee hours of the morning. I eventually dose off from sheer exhaustion only to be stunned into facing yet another work day by my alarm going off an hour later. As far as I am concerned the world is divided into just 2 types of people - the ones who can sleep at the drop of a feather and those who can't to save their lives. Belonging to the latter category, I live in perpetual envy of the 'non-insomniacs.' These super breeds have no idea how blessed they are.
Insomnia is a dark and foul, soul-sapping disease (to a non-insomniac, this would seem a total exaggeration). It leaves you a spent force even before your day gets started, red-eyed and miserable and without a good reason as to why you are feeling just so bone-weary. You drag yourself out of bed with some vague idea of doing something useful since you can't sleep, only to wander about the house aimlessly, dog-tired and gritty-eyed (and obviously not saving the world in any way). It is maddeningly unproductive. You go into work the next day feeling like a none too bright zombie left over from the latest "Walking Dead" episode.

Universal Randomness
The world is governed by chance Randomness stalks us every day of our lives" This is an ode to 'randomness' that has continually dogged us all our lives. They say that the Big Bang (no guys, not the sitcom) that created the Universe as we know it was a random event. They also say that if the earth was any nearer or further from the sun, it would either have fried to a crisp or become a frozen wasteland. Human existence itself seems to be a testament to chance. It seems to be a daily series of random happenings which shape the course of our lives and creates our destinies. Perhaps there is method in the general madness and perhaps there is a greater order to the so called random, haphazardness which we call life. The jury is still out on this but whichever your point of view, the aim of this blog is to "preserve the randomness of mind which in children produces strange and wonderful new thoughts and forms." These series of random musings will neither be preachy, high-brow or exclusive (God forbid!) Instead it is one person's quest to make sense of life and the world- a journey which I cordially invite you to share. It is to be a celebration of randomness, happy coincidences and the general mishmash of life - of rain, tea and a healthy dose of fairydust :) Here's calling all kindred spirits who believe that there should always be a little magic to life. Let the journey begin...
