Idk if someone has thought of this before but MGS2 AU where Snake hits his head during the Tanker Incident, loses his memory, and has an identity crises, hence Iroquois Pliskin.

For those two years before the Big Shell Incident, Hal has to deal with his boyfriend being all, “I’m Iroquois Pliskin, Lieutenant Junior Grade, I’m a Navy Seal.” and Hal just has to be like “That’s great dear, now let’s get you to bed…”

Seeing Solidus’ face (the near spitting image of Big Boss) and the whole “I’m Solid Snake.” thing is what jumpstarts Snake’s memories, and gives us the “NO! That is NOT Solid Snake!”

Now you might think, “If that’s the case, why didn’t Snake’s own reflection trigger his memories?” but the thing is that for all the time Snake knew Big Boss, he was much older with gray hair, so that’s why it’s Solidus’ face specifically that triggers his memories.
