While talking about the Grammys today with a friend, I expressed my frustration of one direction not getting a Grammy nom. I remember them saying "why? It's just a silly boyband." Why not give them a Grammy nom?? The boys have not only worked their asses off for 5 years but have done amazing things. They've won 109 awards and had numerous number 1 singles. People are continually judging them solely based on "WMYB" yes true that's a song all girls played repeatedly and most parents despised. It was a true bubblegum pop song that topped charts but had most believing the band had a short shelf life at most. Not only have the boys surpassed that shelf life but they have done so much more. They have had 4 sold out world wide tours and gone non stop for 5 years. They even wrote and recorded while on the road. Over time they've changed their sound to become more mature and bring in a new audiences while still pleasing the old ones. They went for bubblegum pop "silly boyband" to a more rockier, gritty, guitar heavy band that's perfect for teens and young adults and pleasing for even older crowds. Why do we stick them with a "silly boyband" stigma yes they are a boyband but they all know how to play an instrument and one even plays during their shows. Yes this might not have been all about a Grammy but I felt the need to say it. Why are we told not to judge a book by its cover but judge a band by one song???
