Something I feel like needs to be said (since I haven’t seen it anywhere)
As much as I LOVE the idea of Buddie roommates being a reality aka. teased in the finale montage since Buck ~has not found a place~…
Tumblr media
To me the montage was not necessarily moments all happening at once (or super close to one another), and the montage definitely has some sort of time jump between that finale emergency to the Madney baby’s birth (there definitely has to be a month or two to justify her giving birth… because I CANNOT fathom her giving birth so soon after that emergency lmaoo). Also time jump explains why we sadly didn’t get any hint of Mara’s adoption in those later S8 episodes (some logistics happened offscreen post-finale emergency), as well as the fact that we have no idea how long it was until Athena’s house was put on the market (that takes some time, just like for eddie’s place in El Paso). The fact that all of Buck’s stuff is out of the apartment when Eddie and Chris move in means to me that he’s not living there.. (why would he move all his stuff into a storage unit and pay for it…? the concept of him being houseless is wild to me and pure speculation ns)
As cruel as it is, I believe they just chose to show that Buck touring scene to reveal that there are aspects he misses of Eddie’s place (its ā€œcharacterā€ being some sort of placeholder for the feeling of home he’s had there, including before he moved in) and he (likely) feels like he had to leave to respect Eddie (return it to how it was before he moved in). Also I personally don’t believe the ā€œit wasn’t really mineā€ line contradicts the ā€œnot really a guestā€ line earlier in the showā€.
I do look forward to Buddie fanfic of the roommates concept with Buck not being able to find a place (! <3) but I very much expect him to be in some new place in the premiere oof
If that finale taught us anything: we should keep expectations LOW with these writers (ending and beginning a season are probably the hardest episodes to be fair so I expect S9 Ep1 to shock some people’s theories/assumptions, though that doesn’t excuse poor season arc planning or lack there of in S8).
I WOULD LOVE TO BE WRONG THOUGH SO PLEASE DO TELL ME WHY IM WRONG IF YOU DISAGREE 😭😭😭

✨More HOPECORE for Eddie Diaz✨
Post-Finale - S8 Seismic Shifts Ep. 18 - A Rant
Tumblr media
I think some of us forget that Eddie is still generally repressed. Like yes he was able to take control of the Chris situation and stand up to his parents to get him back but that’s not the totality of his emotional repression. (He in a ways had to get permission from his son and Buck to step up to the plate in that situation)
When Chimney made that speech and snatched that phone away in the finale: Eddie probably felt some (newfound) permission to choose his own happiness over the duties he’s made up in his head. I’m seeing some people act like Chimney commanded Eddie return and Eddie felt he had no choice. The moving back logistics not being included on screen in the episode made it seem easy but in reality Eddie made a huge step in choosing happiness/comfort. Fighting for his own life he had built not merely fitting himself in someone else’s (no shade to Chris).
This is a man who re-enlisted himself in the military for his family and almost always prioritizes something over his own comfort (thinking of others first- Ex. Letting Chris leave for El Paso). The speech scene wasn’t as extensive as necessary to properly convey but I think from it Eddie felt like his chosen family was finally telling him he was wanted/needed in their lives (he assumed ~resigned himself to the idea that~ they didn’t need him long term or in person, yes there’s the 8x17 storyline but that’s treated as short term assistance for Buck, not long term).
Him not snapping at Buck choosing to transfer in the early parts of the finale was proof that Eddie doesn’t even have the tools to stop destructive behavior of his loved ones, so why does it feel like some of the fandom assumes he has easy access to those tools for himself? Though he was surprised by what Buck said, he didn’t fight back at Buck in that scene because he understood what Buck was doing. Eddie staying strict to his plan to go back to Texas, even after choosing to be there with his 118 family during the emergency, is him running away from the pain of the changed circumstances of the 118 with Bobby gone (just like Buck, even though for Eddie it is way more convenient). He allowed himself a prolonged stay for his own grief but still thought about his ā€œdutyā€ to create stability for Chris in Texas.
I understand people wanting more Chris and Eddie development (resolution) in season 8 after the whole situation that caused Chris to leave. However I do feel like the addition of the finale montage scene with Chris wanting to go see his friends and asking Eddie was them reminding the audience that Chris had a life in L.A. before he left and similarly to Eddie I think he did not enjoy El Paso for a multitude of reasons (his grandparents probably sucked a lot of the life out of it). Thus Chris was more understanding than a lot of the fandom assumes he would be at a decision of this caliber (moving back) from his dad (think back to earlier s8 with how they show his love for his dad and how he didn’t replace that role in his life with his grandparents like Eddie sorta assumed).
Hence, yes there was some meh writing for the speech scene (concerning Eddie) but I think I can understand how it and the rest of the episode fits for his character. Let’s hope he continues on a trajectory of choosing joy and not feeling burdened.
Going forward, I do assume he still feels burdened by the expectation of replacing Shannon for Chris, but I think he will start to realize that Chris is fine without it (since he is growing up) and that will give him permission to actually realize what he wants over what he thinks he needs. Having that in S9 will help bring more resolution to that whole situation that caused Chris to leave.
In conclusion, Eddie Diaz is trying his best and I think he is on a good path moving forward! :) <3

Eddie Diaz Rant (Buddie included) *hopecore*
This is a long one but it’s pretty straightforward
Tumblr media
I know the Buddies are upset by the finale but if we are assuming Buddie will become canon I’m kind of glad Eddie will have his support network in person when he starts to figure himself out and doesn’t have to confront how repressed he has been when in his former hometown (and away from Buck).
I think it’s a good thing to show people that you can figure out parts of yourself in your chosen home instead, I’m glad he got Chris back so that Buddie can be coparents as they’ve been set up to potentially be.
Yes the PR tour of Buddie stuff now feels like a distraction to that finale but I think it was kind of like: don’t lose hope Buddie shippers, even if it’s not now, it will happen. Grief doesn’t have to be the thing that causes you to find yourself (or realize someone is your partner who you hadn’t considered before) and it seems kinder to have Eddie figuring out himself in a later stage of grief after rebuilding his life in his ideal home: Los Angeles.
I do agree the El Paso storyline did feel like a lot for just getting Chris back but at least Eddie now knows his most supportive family is his chosen family (and Aunt Pepa as a more fitting maternal figure than what is in Texas, and someone who can step into the void Bobby’s death created within his support network). Also we got that great episode from the moving storyline of Buck supporting Eddie by subletting from him and he didn’t have to lose Chris’/his home when he sacrificed stuff to get his son. The progression of Buddie seemed stilted with the absence of Chris if I’m being honest, I’m looking forward to them in person again.
Buddie not being partners through the 118 in next season means they get to contextualize their relationship in a different way than before which is exciting(!) and I think Eddie will realize better the depth of Bucks love for him without the partner label. Also out and proud homosexual Hen being his medic partner (if we assume Chimney as Cap) will be exciting and I hope we see more of their relationship like we did in 8x17 (clearly the best episode of late S8). We might get to see more of Eddie channeling Bobby to find ā€œanother wayā€ when presented with only two options during an emergency (though I see Chim also channeling Bobby).
I’m personally so glad we avoided the awkwardness of having to see the logistics of Eddie going back, selling that house, and Buck being asked to leave. Though yes I am mourning a sooner Buddie roommates reality :/
Once we saw the direction they were going with the El Paso storyline I kind of dreaded a rushed feelings realization if there was gonna be one in S8. I’m happy it will be explored more in depth and not be a sudden moment/cliffhanger, it feels more honest to the character. Even though it frustrates me as we grow more and more impatient. But we must remember Buck has only been canonically queer since S7, and they have only been on ABC for two seasons now. Queer slow-burn storylines when both of the characters begin their character arcs on the show as ā€œcanonicallyā€ (assumed) straight have to take longer than other slow-burns by design (for the general audience to accept).
After seeing the Buddie argument in the kitchen, I think the aftermath of Chris visiting creating the impression of it being all better would be a little too storybook. And although I didn’t really care for the regression of Buck’s feelings in this finale episode (he shut down again seeing his 118 family not heeled since he knew Eddie was leaving still), it did feel real for him to still be processing the grief and loss of his old normal.
The amount of shifting around (Chim to Captain, Eddie back but working with Hen presumably, hopefully more Buck Ravi bestie-ism) will be very interesting to watch in S9!
Most of what I’m worried about is honestly Athena’s storyline since we didn’t really see her actual thought process for selling the house, I don’t know how we will see them (her and the 118) interact in the future out side of work, we can assume they will be a family but since not every shift includes police response, will she be getting less screen time?
Let’s remain hopeful to the possibilities! I think this set up allows us to process Bobby’s death more over the hiatus and doesn’t use a queer storyline for shock value in a finale!
I totally understand anyone who steps away from the show for their own mental wellness, it’s a lot if you feel strung along, but there’s always hope as the show is not over. Be kind to yourself and don’t fall into a spiral of doom if you can help it <3

My prediction scorecard
Seismic Shifts - 8x18 - 911
Tumblr media
5.5/12 šŸ˜€ Not even 50% welp 😩
The episode wasn’t bad imo just not dramatic enough for the 118 for a finale! Storylines were fine, mom and daughter storyline was way too drawn out (I understand it was there to show tension amongst the 118 family and to flashback to laundry incident). Wish Mara adoption got a bigger moment, the end felt so rushed but hopefully no hiatus time-jump! šŸ¤žšŸ¤žšŸ¤žšŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

Just thought of the WORST cliffhanger šŸ’€
Since a journalist who has already seen the episode posted this: *pay attention to the door emoji*
Tumblr media
And Oliver is allegedly saying *this* in an insta story during filming:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What if the cliffhanger is that everyone is together at a party for Eddie deciding to stay in L.A. and when there’s a knock on the door everyone looks around confused because absolutely no one is missing… and then the scene continues as Oliver allegedly describes (he goes to the door) and that’s supposed to be bait for Bobby being alive (we don’t even see his face at all in this episode 🤔😩)
Sorry to curse y’all with these thoughts lmaooo

I’m honestly just like…
Can ABC/the show even pull off keeping Bobby Alive a secret if they had to film something for the finale….
Will we only get a phone call (which is quite ambiguous ugh) but much easier to produce and keep secret, or like did they film something during the filming of other episodes (or with a very lowkey set at the end of filming)…
My nightmare would be that Bobby is alive but we don’t get any indication in the finale and we get something during the premiere of S9 🫠 (very much retcon vibes)
Scared for the crashouts tomorrow if nothing Bobby Alive occurs… I’m like 30% hopeful something will 🤔🤔🤔

Saw this on Twitter (I don’t post fandom stuff on there so my apologies to OP for screenshotting and posting it here, I will take it down if they see and disapprove)
Here’s my two cents (or more lol sorry this is kind of long) on the finale time management for storylines
Hope this alleviates anyone’s stress about the episode’s ability to include what we want
1. As most of us agree, any Bobby resurrection will likely be short at the end of the episode and serve as a cliffhanger
2. We’ve been given no indication recently of how far along Maddie is and I believe if they were setting up a birth in the finale we would already have some indication of pregnancy timeline (more than just the size of the bump). I think that will open or be very early S9. Especially since this finale is emergency focused, with Maddie being at the call center and Chimney on a call.
3. Ravi as main couldn’t be announced without spoiling Bobby’s retirement (if he is resurrected), if Bobby came back to work that would mean no new captain and no open slot for Eddie to exist with Ravi. We are all assuming they (Eddie and Ravi) will be on the same team in s9 since Eddie coming back doesn’t mean Ravi would be kicked out of his job (Captain job continuing down the 118 internal hire storyline). I am hoping we get a pre-season 9 cast poster with Ravi on it but I wonder how that would work if there is a Bobby cliffhanger in the finale… like would he be featured as well(?). Ravi having no individual storyline last episode leads me to believing nothing substantial will happen for him in the finale, thus no way to convey to the audience that he will be a main.
4. I believe Tim said that the new captain will not be shown by the end of S8 (by extension I assume no decision as well for the sake of time management, since their main candidate who got an offer just turned it down), however I think we will get teased again about Hen possibly being Captain (and potentially Chimney too - he has the arc with Athena hopefully wrapping up this episode and him being considered for Captain could work with it), I think that gives people something to tune in for with S9 for hens storyline as well as a mystery of who will be Captain. (I do hope she and Karen adopt Mara in the finale)
5. I’m gonna sound like a broken record but: Eddie will save Buck (and Ravi?), and likely Eddie will say something that will be considered (or connect with) a big gesture that will leave Buddie fans confident but hooked for S9 (not necessarily during the emergency). Aka. Eddie basically confirmed feelings for Buck but not understood by Buck. I think that’s a reasonable expectation for Buddie and writing for the General Audience.
6. Seeing as they spent all that time in Lab Rats (their last big emergency) on the non-lab part with Buck and Athena, I believe they will open with current 118 group getting to the scene and then continue with them on the scene, then part way when it gets worse Eddie finds out and comes in, the 118 have some big moments (Chimney and Athena, Buddie), then a resolution for the emergency, and maybe three/four scenes post emergency (Henren, Buddie, Madney?, Welcome home cake scene from leaks ~at Athena’s house maybe?~), Bobby resurrection tease after all this

BUDDIE AS MOVIES
HARD TARGET (1993)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In New Orleans: Eddie Diaz, an army-vet skilled in martial arts, is employed to guard Evan ā€˜Buck’ Buckley as he tracks down his father, a missing ex-firefighter named Bobby. They soon uncover a sinister group of wealthy men who hunt the homeless for sport, paying them $10,000 if they can survive a crosstown journey. When Eddie discovers that Buck's father was one of their victims, he decides to destroy the evil hunters.
This post is DERANGED but I would love someone to write a fan fiction of this movie with Buddie 😭😭😭
This post will have been worth it if someone decides to watch this film as a result lol

Unpopular BUDDIE Opinion
I don’t want a kiss/Buck feelings reveal to Eddie in the finale, I just want an Eddie feelings realization
Why? Because of the assumed time-jump over the hiatus
If they kiss we probably lose out on seeing the early stages of their relationship and if Buck reveals his feelings without anything from Eddie back we might cut to them being awkward around each other post-hiatus :((((
Please convince me otherwise if you disagree though because obviously a kiss or feelings reveal to Eddie is better TV šŸ™ƒšŸ™ƒšŸ˜©šŸ˜©

NEXT WEEK???!? like after the finale?! or like before the finale… 🤔
After finale gives me more hope for Buddie canon while before the finale gives me more ā€˜trying to get back on the fandom’s good graces’ vibes…
After finale sounds better for Buddie but worse for Bobby!alive truthers because wouldn’t him being alive be enough press for the show šŸ˜€
