Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!

hey hi hello so as the US goes through this ~ hostile government takeover ~ Trump signed an executive order last week to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). On Thursday (3/20) DOGE attempted to quietly raid IMLS but staff there posted to reddit and the unwanted media attention led them to put a pause on the takeover, for now. Trump replaced the director of IMLS with Keith Sonderling, who very openly stated that his goals are to "promote patriotism" and "American exceptionalism". We worry grants will be more dependent on whether your institution supports DEI [or anyone who isn't a white hetero cis man].
A lot of libraries depend on IMLS grants! If they go away we will lose librarians and libraries may close, or at least significantly decrease their services. This will affect funding for technology classes, free resources for the blind, summer reading, databases, free internet access assistance, and interlibrary loans among other things. As the administration also targets social security, immigration, and other safety nets, libraries are attempting to fill the gap for the public, and things will get much harder without reliable funding.
This is also IN ADDITION to the administration calling book bans "fake" and some states attempting to pass laws to criminalize librarians, with fears in the library world that they will also try to make it a federal crime to promote or otherwise provide access to "inappropriate materials" which have included books that promote "gender ideology" or basically any character that isn't a white hetero cis man. That is one of the cornerstones of Project 2025. This IMLS takeover will only make things worse, and make it harder for people to access information.
Personally, we have been told by our director to be very careful and not talk about this while at work because of fears of retaliation, we have had several calls from the public to remove books with gay characters (we didn't), and as an adult services librarian, I am already seeing an impact on databases I help the public use. Medline Plus, the only free and easy-to-use medical encyclopedia for the public I have been able to find, is a US government website and already has warnings above certain pages about the "harms of gender ideology". This warning can be seen above pages on health disparities and abortion.
Tumblr media
If you're so inclined and live in the US, the ALA put together a portal that makes it easy to email your reps with a script. You can find the portal here. I would also recommend investing in your local library, post on social media what services you use, sign up for a library card and see how many resources you can access for free. Many state library associations collect user stories of libraries so they can show their stakeholders they matter. Like my library, it is likely that staff have been warned not to discuss this at work because of fears of retaliation, so try not to talk to librarians about this at work.

Cat genetics/appearance resources
I like to periodically look around and see what resources are available, both for casual warriors writers, and the ones with more experience with genetics wanting to try and make their family trees make sense, and those who just want to see more cat pictures to make fun and interesting OCs. So here is a list of some really cool things to look at!
To start with, we have @sparrowminder's always excellent website. Where you can get an explanation of a lot of the basic stuff to build off of. Sparrow also has a lot of cool resources that aren't on the website yet, including an amazing chart of cat eye colors. Sparrow's Garden contains the best public calculator that I know of for kittens that would result from certain pairings.
There is always the quintessential Messybeast. Though I would take some things with a grain of salt, as they may be outdated. Still, it is the starting place for many, and continue numerous links to articles that could have some use.
I also came across a very useful website called Feliformias. A resource which has visuals for almost all the colors (it seems to be missing a few, primarily all the bengal patterns).
Of course, there are also a variety of Tumblr blogs to check out!
@catcolors is an inactive, but still very useful source of pictures for a variety of colors
@amber-tortoiseshell is very knowledgeable with cat genetics, and does a lot of discussions about cats and identifying their phenotype
@felinefractious has a blog that is just absolutely full to the brim with pictures of cats, sourced from breeders and labeled by color and breed.
And I've reblogged a few other resources before, images that can be found on my blog, but I will link them here:
Garden-of-Willow's Color study
Slug's cute little color guide
Cedar seed's incredible guide
If anyone else has some good resources, link them in replies or reblogs!

RRR RamBheem Hurt/Comfort Fic Rec!
How Will This Bullet Earn Its Value?
Alright guys, I've never advertised a fic on here, but I would really love to share it with more people because I do believe the fandom is still active and I'm having a great time writing it!
It's Ram POV throughout, which means it's an angst fest because that boy has something wrong with him (affectionate).
Tumblr media
Here's an excerpt:
So what did he know about Bheem, really? Komuram Bheem was … a shepherd. He had said so himself: He longed to protect those he loved, the members of his flock, like Malli. And he was a healer. Akhtar had fixed machines – perhaps Bheem did the same for people. Where did Ram fall, on the sliding scale between man and machine? Perhaps Bheem would be able to tell him. Ram knew that Akhtar would be upset if he knew how Ram thought of himself, but how much of Akhtar was part of Bheem? How much of their friendship had been real? Did Bheem save him because of six months spent together in Delhi, filled with laughter and love? Or just because he was too kind to let Ram die? Ram closed his eyes and took a shuddering breath. He should operate on the assumption that Bheem would leave him once he was well enough to be safe on his own, as much as he longed for the alternative to be true. Bheem was the Gond protector. He would take Malli home and stay with his people, and Ram would … Ram would … What the hell was he going to do?
__
The fic picks up immediately after the flogging, and roughly follows the plot until after Ram has been captured, where things start to change.
The important canon divergence is a) that Ram talks to Malli before executing his plan, apologising to her, and once Bheem and Malli are on the run, she tells him the truth about Ram's mission. Canon divergence b) is that the entire time, Ram is madly in love with Bheem.
I update about every two weeks. Prepare for angst and pain and blood and a lot of shrimp emotions.
You can read How Will This Bullet Earn Its Value? on Ao3. I hope to see you there!

one last movie, no sub is "Thillu Mullu (transl. Hanky-panky) is a 1981 Indian Tamil-language comedy film directed by K. Balachander and written by Visu. A remake of the 1979 Hindi film Gol Maal, it stars Rajinikanth [...]. The film is about Chandran, who lies to his boss to get a leave but gets caught. To save his job, he is forced to pretend to his boss that he has a twin brother."
oh this movie sounds like fun.
good news: it's on youtube in full in the original tamil with english subtitles! bad news: the quality is Not Great. things tend to get put up and taken down on youtube pretty quickly, so i would advise downloading this so you don't lose it!
youtube
it turns out it was remade in tamil AGAIN in 2013, and THAT one i cannot find with subs anywhere. but both the 1981 version and the 2013 version are on einthusan in the original tamil without subs: the 1981 version is here and the 2013 remake is here.
have fun!
be sure to submit a review and tell us what you think of the movie!

another looking for subs - Dhanush's Polladhavan (first collab with Vetrimaaran) 2007 - tamil
i am sorry friend but i can't find this one with english subtitles. more dedicated people than i have tried as well; i'm not sure the english subs actually exist.
if you speak hindi, you can watch it without any subs but DUBBED into hindi on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zyr5EUCSdpc, and that's the best i can do for you.
if anyone out there can find Polladhavan (2007) with Dhanush (not to be confused with the older movie by the same title that does not star our guy) please send us an ask with the link so we can share it!

Hello, thank you for all the information you share (I look forward to reading more about weasels).
I recently adopted a very sweet adult female cat from my local shelter. I’ve named her Chura. The shelter listed her as a Torbie but I confess, I don’t see tortoiseshell patterns in her coat, my cats. Vet said she was a diluted color but wasn’t sure which.
I started researching this topic in the hopes of describing her better than “sort of beige”
I appreciate any help you can provide and thank you for your time!

I don't see tortoiseshell on these pics either, and based on the first one i'm pretty sure she's black tabby, not blue or any kind of brown variant. (The stripes on her face are black.)
Honestly the only thing I can think of is colorpoint. She's very dark and i wouldn't swear on the blue eyes, but that's my best guess: black tabby point.

You know what?
I love you, fics that take months to update. I click on the newest chapter and have no memory of this place and get to go back some chapters and rediscover how much i love everything about this story.
I love you, fics that take years to update. I think of you fondly, and know your names, go search for you and see an update from this year and scream, diving in uncaring of any missed details (i will finish the update and read you in reverse because this is a treat you have bestowed)
I love you, fics that probably will never update again. Thank you for being a roman empire for my mind, thank you for teaching me about the ephemeral fandom experience, for inspiring a thousand million what if-s, for being a comfort read and a nostalgia read and a reread.
I love you fic writers, who jump into projects and stories with enthusiasm. I love you when you succeed in pumping out those chapters and that love doesn't go away when you stop.
I love you fic writers who post and then get in your own head and never feel confident enough to update, whether it's at all or whether it's just that one story.
I love you fic writers, who have a fandom or media hurt you to the point of abandoning or having a hard time with their WIPs.
I love you fic writers, who lose interest or have life changes or illness or bad memory. Thank you for being part of the fandom, a core part of the fandom. Thank you for the time spent in the fandom.
I love you, fic writers who try out something new and then stop. You're so valid.
I love you, WIP fics that may or may not ever get finished. Thank you for brightening my day in the way only you could have.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!
If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!

I just think people write out of obligation too often.
"How do I motivate myself to write through the boring part of my story?"
"How do I make this boring scene not boring?"
Don't write it.
Don't write boring things just because you think the structure of the story demands it. I promise it doesn't need to be there.
If your characters need to have gone shopping for a later part of the story to make sense you can just have a sentence about how they went shopping and move on.
You are not obligated to write the boring parts. No matter what those parts are.
You are not obligated to make the parts of your story that you're not excited to write interesting somehow.
You can just write the fun and interesting parts and gloss over and summarize boring things.
Your audience will thank you and you will thank yourself.
