What happens when I show my face

(this isn't aimed at my mutuals and all the people who are so sweet to me about my makeup and outfits, who give compliments respectfully, etc). TW discussions of internet perverts.

There are a few things I want to establish. First is that internet perverts are so much more common than you think. In my bio for all my social media the first thing I have written in all caps is MINOR. Yet I constantly receive inappropriate comments and harassment from adult men. Strange comments and interactions like this absolutely increase when you start posting your face, and as I've found interaction from porn blogs ramps up when you start posting your face. Not even porn bots, real people. Even if they're not doing anything explicitly to you, it's happened to me before as a goth where I'll click on a profile that likes my posts and see it's full of NSFW of other goth girls. When I've had users insult my appearance the people in question will often also be middle aged men whose entire page is reblogs of naked women.

A while ago I made a friend online who posted goose videos. This guy starting messaging me and calling me beautiful. I assumed that perhaps they were a minor as well. I looked closely at their account and saw a middle aged man. The other day I got a comment calling me "a real goth baddie", I clicked don the profile and it is a grown adult man and an incel. Are you noticing a pattern here? I get another comment "you're just my type" I click on the profile and its an adult man.

I just find it scary that there are so many grown men out there who do not care if they are talking to a child. Who see no issue with bullying some one if they can't sexualise them, who think it's okay to message teenagers on the internet and make inappropriate comments. My entire life I have seen men of all ages act this way. These are not issues of the past, we are living them.

so guys I may or may not have written two and a half pages about how Gelphie could have been/is canon in the musical if you disregard the book

warning uh this is pretty informal and I do maybe yell at Fiyero/the reader a teensy bit so uhm yeah

also this isn't really divided up into paragraphs... I tried to kinda divide it up where the songs/scenes would end/start though

it starts at What Is This Feeling

In What is this Feeling, Galinda and Elphaba sing about a feeling and they don’t know what it is. They settle on loathing, a feeling that could easily be said instead of a crush. Because Galinda is initially mad at Elphaba for being more talented than her, she doesn’t know that she does actually admire her. And while Elphaba does have feelings for Galinda, she registers them much earlier and detests them, because Galinda is mean to her. Galinda is mean to Elphaba because she is in denial about being in love with her, and so is mean to her in hopes that her crush on Elphaba will go away, because she CANNOT BE IN LOVE WITH THE GREEN GIRL WHAT THE HELL GALINDA, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER.

In Dancing Through Life, Galinda meets Fiyero and is like “oh this is… someone that Shenshen or Pfannee or... Elphaba... would be in love with. But I’m in love with Elphaba. If she meets this man, she won’t love me. I need to pretend to be in love with Fiyero so Elphaba thinks he’s taken.” (honestly, girl, there are so many other ways you could have gone about this but okay) In Popular, Galinda actually fully registers her feelings for Elphaba and tries to let Elphaba know in possibly the worst way, first telling Elphaba that she’s in love with Fiyero, and then trying to make Elphaba “prettier” while telling her she’s beautiful. Elphaba does not want to fall for her and frankly, is hurt that Galinda didn’t think she was beautiful before, so she leaves, but still craves acceptance and love from Galinda so she does what Galinda says (she also keeps the hair clip Galinda gives her for funsies).

In I’m Not That Girl, Elphaba falls for Fiyero but thinks Galinda is in love with him because she can’t take a hint, so she feels inadequate and tries to forget about it. In One Short Day, Elphaba asks Glinda to go with her because she knows Glinda, and she knows she will love it, and she is also trying to avoid Fiyero/trying to break them up, to get with Fiyero. Obviously she’s trying to get with him.

Skip forward a bit and you get Defying Gravity, in which both of them have tried to push their romantic feelings for eachother down and replace them with friendship. Elphaba thinks she has actually succeeded in this and while falling for Fiyero, her crush on Glinda has disappeared (or so she thinks). Regardless, she asks Glinda to come with her to be a team, which not only would make them both stronger as friends and as people, it would give them time alone for Glinda to confess her feelings. Glinda does realize this but is afraid that Elphaba doesn’t feel the same way and it would be awkward, not to mention she can’t leave, she can’t bring herself to leave Oz as it is, so she declines. She needs to be the person that Oz needs right now. After Elphaba leaves, Glinda begins to grow a resentment for her, for not returning her feelings or not saying anything about them. She knows it’s stupid, and she knows she still is in love with Elphaba, but she doesn’t know what else to feel.

In Thank Goodness, when Glinda is singing about how she couldn’t be happier to be engaged with Fiyero, she realizes that the reason she is going through with her engagement to Fiyero is because she is telling herself that it will bring Elphaba back if she hears about it. She lies to the press and the Ozians and tells them that she is hopelessly in love with Fiyero and that he is so handsome and stuff. When Elphaba does come back for Fiyero, she catches him first with Glinda, and Glinda is heartbroken that Elphie isn’t coming back for her. So, she says “You mean… all this time? The two of you? Behind my back?” about Elphaba, but Fiyero thinks it’s about him. Elphie says “Glinda it wasn’t like that.” because she doesn’t want Glinda to be mad at her, but Fiyero whisks them away without Elphie saying an apology.

In As Long As You’re Mine Elphaba is still so, so sad about Glinda because she knows Glinda is mad at her, but she’s like “Well. This is what I wanted, isn’t it? I may as well take advantage.” After that song, she sees the house flying through the sky and is like “oh shiz. Nessa’s in danger.” and like the girlboss she is, she goes alone. Before she leaves, Fiyero says to her “We will be together always. You can see houses flying through the sky, can’t you see that?” and Elphaba runs/flies off without answering him, because the truth is, she can’t see that. She cannot see a life without Glinda in it. And she feels bad about it. Because she knows that Fiyero loves her, and she does love him, but, as she realizes, she loves Glinda more. So when she sees Glinda at the scene of Nessa’s death, she channels these emotions in the only way she knows how. Anger. (because she’s never really been exposed to forgiveness, because of her friggin dad being a jerk) Anger and magic, but the magic comes later. When Glinda says to Elphie “well, it seems a lot of us are taking things that don’t belong to us, aren’t we”, Glinda says that because she thinks that Elphie doesn’t know that she’s in love with her. Elphie thinks “oh shiz again. Glinda doesn’t know I’m in love with her.” but says “FIYERO LOVES ME.” if you’ll note, in that line, she never says that she’s in love with him. Only that he’s in love with her.  So then they get into a fight and the authorities (and Fiyero) come to break up the fight, and Fiyero threatens to kill Glinda if they don’t let Elphie go. And then he is taken to be tortured.

Next comes the magic bit of Elphaba only knowing how to cope with her feelings in two ways because her dad is a massive jerk. Elphie obviously doesn’t want Fiyero to die, he’s still a person, and she still loves him, or she did, so she magics him into a scarecrow. And in that song, No Good Deed, she says that she will never attempt to do anything good again, because whenever she does try to, she ends up screwing something up. And then she kidnaps Dorothy, because she’s a wretched little farm girl who stole a dead woman’s shoes. Gosh, Dorothy. (although, Glinda did give her the shoes, which begs the question, why would she do that, and my gay heart says that it’s because she thought [and was correct] that it would bring Elphaba back)

Glinda cares about her, obviously, so she comes to warn Elphaba about the guards and stuff. And then it’s just all the feels, obviously, because it’s her girlfriend/ex-girlfriend/best friend who is literally coming to save her after she stole her boyfriend/fiance/employee (he’s captain of the guard so idk??) so YEAH it’s awkward. And Elphie’s like “I’m gonna surrender bc my bf’s dead” and now you may be asking me “If they shared everything, then why wouldn’t Elphie tell Glinda that Fiyero was actually alive?” and to that I say that Glinda is just a liiiiittle bit of a drama queen and she would probably absolutely freak out that Fiyero was alive and that would make everything VERY complicated. Plus Elphaba is a generally reserved person even not considering the circumstances, so with them, under all that pressure and stress to not reveal anything that could hurt anyone, she may have forgotten that she can trust Glinda, because she’s had to live with not trusting ANYONE for so long.

So now you may be asking: “Anna. Dear. WHY WOULD SHE LEAVE WITH FIYERO IF SHE’S IN LOVE WITH GLINDA!!???” BECAUSE THAT’S HER ONLY OPTION, DUDE!! HE IS THE LITERAL ONLY PERSON WHO WILL GO WITH HER!!! Glinda wants to, but she HAS to stay. She said it herself in Defying Gravity, she’s not ready to leave. She has to stay, she has to try to be Glinda the Good. For Elphie. She needed to be the person Oz needed her to be, but now she needs to be the person Elphaba would be if she wasn’t, you know, an escaped convict and an enemy of the state. She has to essentially be Elphaba while not letting on that she’s being Elphaba because everyone hates Elphaba. Elphaba knows she can’t change the way people think of her, so she has to leave if she even wants an attempt at a normal life. And she leaves with Fiyero because he is her friend, lover, and as far as he knows, her boyfriend. We can only hope she tells him how she feels so she isn’t stuck in a relationship she’s not happy in for the rest of her life. And also we can hope that she and Glinda get back together again but it’s probably not going to happen so we can just cry instead.

And then they sing For Good and everyone is a sobbing mess and we all cry ourselves to sleep because it’s so sweet and they’re so gay and they can never truly be happy together. AKBVOACPC i can’t.
