The Queen and the Jedi (Part One)

Obi Wan Kenobi x Female reader (She/her pronouns)

Summary: Queen Reya Damari of the planet Edenia (yes, I like Mortal Kombat) must save her people from the Separatist control by doing the only thing she never thought would do, ask the jedi council for help.

Word Count: 1,500 words

I never thought it would come to this, what would my people think of me? Their queen, alone, left for dead, and stranded in the middle of the jungle while my subjects starve and suffer at the hands of man under the beliefs of a regimen that only cares about the fall of the Republic, this is exactly why I wanted to stay as far from this war as possible while keeping my alliance to the Republic, so I wouldn’t put the citizens at risk, but, deep down, I knew the noninvolvement wouldn’t last long, now I’m sure of what I have to do, even if I don't like it, so I take my commlink and dial my former master’s code.

General Kenobi was not surprised to hear of another meeting for another emergency mission, we are in times of war after all, what did surprise him was the look of concern in Master Plo Koon’s face as he and Master Yoda analyzed the plans of what seemed to be a royal castle in a planet he could remember but not name, after what felt like hours the two men finally acknowledged him, Master Plo was the first to talk. “Kenobi, good to see you, we will explain the mission once Skywalker and Ahsoka arrive”.

After a few minutes he felt them arrive trough the force, when they entered the briefing room everyone else seemed to be a little more at ease, so the masters begin. “Now that you are all here, we have received a secret message from the queen of Edenia, a woman named Reya Damari…”

He was suddenly interrupted by the padawan. “!! Reya Damari?!, we are helping her?”, everyone else looked at her like oddly for her reaction, “Do you know her Snips?”, “You can share her story later, sure I am, young padawan” Master Yoda replied, then proceeded to lay on a hologram of the queen.

“As I was saying, her message said that her planet was taken by the Separatist after an assassination attempt on her life which was believed successful, the attack was first thought to be terrorists because a big group of bounty hunters tried to take over the palace, the next day it was filled with droids and Count Dooku himself announcing that their queen was dead, and the Republic has forgotten about them”.

After Plo Koon’s explanation, the little green master started to explain the dynamic of the mission, “Important her planet is, one of the biggest suppliers of bacta, and directly to most medical stations all over the outer rim they ship it, you will help her take back the control of her palace.”

Obi Wan who has been quiet the whole time then addressed “It does seem like an important mission, but I hardly see the need of four jedi knights and a padawan to complete it”. And while Anakin and Ahsoka nodded in agreement, Plo Koon responded “Master Yoda and I will not be attending, it will be all on the three of you and a small squadron of clones.”

“Why not?” Anakin asked while looking at the projection in the middle of the room, “Fond of the council, she is not” “Anything we should know?” Skywalker questioned, after being given the negative of the grand master and the order to live as soon as possible, they all left the room to prepare everything for their departure.

As they walked to the Resolute, the young padawan could notice that both masters had more questions about Edenia and its queen, so she tries to investigate more:

“Is there something on you mind Sky guy?”

“I saw the queen’s message to the council, she looked very reluctant to call us for help, and she said that she was calling because she had no other choice, it’s confusing.”

“Maybe it’s because she is not happy with the position she’s been forced to be in Anakin, as far as I’ve heard, Edenia is a very pacific planet with very low crime rates, the whole situation got out of her hands to quickly, we really can’t blame her for her reluctance, but I don’t understand her dislike of the council” Kenobi said as a reply for his former padawan’s statement.

The togruta was fast to say, “If I may, I think I know the answer to all of your questions, I’ll tell you everything once in the ship, see you there!” then run off towards Rex to talk some details about the mission while the two generals looked at her quizzically.

The briefing room of the Resolute was only filled with the jedi, captain Rex, and the small squadron of clones that would execute the assignment, they were all looking at the girl standing in front of the holo-table, “Alright Ahsoka, talk to us, what’s so special about this edenian queen?”, her master spoke.

“Thanks master, ok, Reya Damari is known as the current queen of Edenia, but she wasn’t always just that, she was born as the first and only child to the former queen and king of the Damari family, she showed signs of force sensitivity from a very young age, found by the jedi and trained as such, one of the best of her class, I don’t know who her master was but she passed the trials with an outstanding score, but five years ago, a few years after she was knighted the news of the edenian leaders sudden death broke throughout the galaxy, the rumors say that she received a secret holo-call of one of the deceased queen’s personal handmaidens where she was told the truth about her lineage and that her parents where killed by who we now know as the Separatists, so they could invade the planet freely, and that a few of the warriors of the royal guard escaped and where hiding in the forest near the capital, without the council’s permission flew to Edenia and with the royal family’s personal guards took back the control of the palace, kicking out the droid army.

Her actions and strategy along with her knowledge were what gave her the rank of Master, she accepted the tittle but preferred to stay and fulfill her role by taking her place on the edenian throne.”

Just as she finished her story, the padawan could only describe the expressions of surprise around the room as priceless, Kenobi spoke first with an unamused but curious look, almost as he already knew the story, “Did she ever leave the order?”, “No, she is still recognized as a jedi master but does not serve the order anymore.”

Anakin finally broke out of his shock and asked what he really wanted to know, “Then why isn’t she fond of the council?”, to what Ahsoka answered, “They all knew and hid the truth about her lineage to her, even though the time when she had to take the throne was inevitable, nobody likes being lied to like that.” As they all talked about the task at hand.

Even if Obi Wan tried to remain with the unamused appearance, he was showing small bits of nostalgy at the mention of his old friend’s life story, he could still remember how they would run around the temple pulling pranks on other younglings, how happy they felt when they were assigned to their masters, they drifted apart after that, but he would never forget how she spent every minute she could spare with him after his master died, she helped him with Anakin’s training the first couple of months, she was his shoulder to cry on when the nightmares plagued his mind, and last but never least, his dearest memory of her was the happiness in her eyes the day of her coronation, caused by the screams filled with love and adoration from the people of Edenia, she discreetly told him how it felt odd to call them “subjects” or to have them looking at her all the time.

That the moment he realized how he truly cared a bout her, and how much he was going to miss her once he returned to Coruscant, they spent that whole night together, talking, creating as many memories as they could, some weeks after her departure, he noticed how right he was, he really longed for her presence, then started asking himself how he actually felt for her, any possibility of love was out of the question, he had enough of that after the heartbreak he felt when leaving Satine, but what other word would he use to describe the feeling of joy in his heart when he saw her smile at his jokes that weren’t really funny, or her small laugh at his sarcastic comments, maybe he was in love with her, maybe he still is, but he knew that nothing could happen, so, he did what has done before, he shoved those feelings so deep into his mind so they would become nothing but a faint whisper, all the ranting and talking in the room (along with his nostalgic train of thought) was interrupted by a trooper “Excuse me everyone, we have arrived to Edenia, we are approaching the drop site”.
