So erm... It happened... I broke the promise I made to myself that I wouldn't buy anymore books until I finished all the books I had left to read. But it's Harry Potter and it doesn't matter. Even my mum, who hates spending extra money, understood my love for Harry Potter when we went shopping today. - - - For a while I convinced myself that I didn't need to read this play, and that it would tarnish the whole Harry Potter world as I know it. LONGWINDED (for instagram anyways) BOOK REVIEW: - - - - It's strange, I've enjoyed books in the past in a very different way to this one, but enjoyed them all the same. But no book has ever rendered me speechless yet leave me with more to say. I watched the movie once, years ago, so I thought that I was prepared. I COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG. This book floored me. If I was completely honest, this book took me while to get into purely because I was getting used to the writing style of Mr King, and also because I'd deviated from my preferred style and genre of book. It's taken me 12 days to read this book but I read the second half in (a collective period of) 4-5 hours. The brilliance with which King writes, the realness despite it's inclusion of magic and miracles, amazed me. When I finally got into it (about halfway) I was gripped. The way he conveyed emotions, especially towards the end, were so refreshing. There weren't over-complicated metaphors that you had to decode and deconstruct (though there were plenty of metaphors). This book has everything; loss and tragedy but also humour and hopefulness; it's cliffhangers leave you craving more; and plenty of moments where you'll think "ahh that makes sense now". It's full of characters you'll love and characters you'll love to hate (think Curly from Of Mice and Men). - - I couldn't recommend this book enough, my first experience reading a Stephen King book was beautiful (perhaps not literally because there were tears and snots by the end cos boy, I was bawling). The movie was amazing and brilliant, but the book?
