Escaping Fate: The Knight (2/3)

This idea, of what if Kit had run away, wouldn’t leave me. So, this is what I came up with. It is very loose with canon and has a lot of made-up crap, for the plot.

Summary: Jade learns a lot about oaths and loyalty while Kit is gone.

——————

Whenever she closes her eyes, Jade has the same dream.

It starts with Kit waking her up with a kiss. Then they’re wandering the halls of the castle, trying to get back to her room. The longing she felt for the Princess has a name now. One she had been afraid to say aloud before. Her heart is pounding up and down her throat. Kit drags her by the hand and Jade knows that something is about to happen… they just need to find the right door.

She never remembers what that something is until it’s too late.

Reality crashes down on them as the Queen is dragging her away from Kit and Jade’s hands always reach out to hold onto Kit. Just once she wants to reach her. To never give her up.

She wakes up disoriented. Jade’s hands automatically searching her bed for Kit’s comforting shape.

She’s never there, and the only thing Jade feels is a weight at the bottom of her stomach.

Jade is worried about Kit. Wherever the princess goes, she would follow.

Except when it mattered.

When Kit had begged her to run, and Jade chose to stay.
