🛖🏹Ultimate Decades Challenge🏰👑
Year 1305
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As 1304 came to a close, Elias grew into a perfect little infant. He was bright and cheerful, sweet and curious. He really became the focus of the growing family; he was after all, the heir to pass on the family name. Into 1305, it was Eleanor's birthday that really seemed to change her demeanor. She noticed that she, no longer as helpless, was given less attention and more responsibility. She did not like that. Eleanor grew fond of playing in the rain, making mud pies, and going on walks around the farm barefooted, disappearing from her chores.

My posts for my Ultimate Decades Challenge may start being a bit smaller than usual. My grandmother recently had surgery and then a week after, she fell and broke her hip and wrist unfortunately. She is a strong 90 years old, and just had another surgery today. My mind is definitely scattered but I have missed playing The Sims 4 recently. My story may just start becoming more small instead of large paragraphs like I tend to do 💕

🏹🛖Ultimate Decades Challenge🏰👑
Continuation of 1304...
In the wake of the heartbreaking loss of their baby girl, Elizabeth, Hugh and Bridget's world was enveloped in a thick blanket of sorrow. The pain seemed insurmountable, casting a shadow over their lives. However, amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged with the arrival of their precious son, Elias. His birth brought a renewed sense of purpose and joy.
Elias, with his innocent smile and tender presence, became a beacon of light for the family. While they knew that Elias could never replace Elizabeth, his arrival breathed life back into their home.
And as Edith grew older, the bond between her and older sister, Eleanor, became an unbreakable thread that wove through their lives; being that the girls were only a mere year and a half apart in age, they had each other to play, snuggle, explore, and find trouble with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hugh holds Edith a little tighter after the loss of her twin sister; their first true loss as a family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Through the eyes of a child, you will see the world as it should be."
The bitter cold winter left the crops scarce and foraging took longer than normal. The children continued growing strong and healthy, and they watched Edith pass through her infancy and into her toddler years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am the Queen of doing too much. I think this picture is an example of how I can never do anything "minimally". My writing, stories, posts, photo edits, explanations..... I am always doing too much.
Going backwards in time, before Edith was a toddler and Elias was born...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I don't care about your excuses, peasant. As I recall, you have an imbecile in charge here. Pathetic excuse for a lad, eh?"
Not long before Elias was born, the tax collector made his rounds yet again. Hugh had recently started his job as an Artisan's Assistant and their money was dwindling more than ever while the very pregnant Bridget was unable to collect much honey in the dead of winter, nor was she able to stand for long periods of time crafting candles.
Bridget didn't get nearly as upset about a man of his status degrading her, but hearing him speak ill of Hugh made her blood boil internally. She would fight until the end of it all for her family. She could say or do nothing except try to blink the tears away that threatened to overflow down to her cheeks before returning back into the warmth of her home.
Tumblr media
"He would be like that even if we weren't peasants, love." Bernedicta rocked quietly, moving her needle and thread with ease. It wasn't just a hobby; it was her way of helping with those taxes. She sold her work straight out of the home to anybody who made the trip to the farm. Though it wasn't anything close to enough to provide for the family, anything helped. "We will be fine. It is going to work out, as it always does. Don't listen to the fool. Sit down and have a rest. I will watch Edith; here, here," she waved her hand for Bridget to lay the infant down in the bassinet next to her.
Tumblr media
"I know you love to watch me crochet more than those silly stitches, eh?" Bernedicta grinned as Edith babbled away and watched Benedicta's hands moving back and forth.
Back to present day...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I think that will do it for now..." Hugh said with a smile. Though winter hadn't brought much honey, they had a few jars they had not sold to the towns folk and used those to make honey mead. It sold at a much higher price and turns out, commoners up to lords and ladies even enjoyed it. The murmurs around the peasant village were that the kingdom was buzzing with whispers of a peasant family with the best mead in all the lands. "I cannot wait to see the look on his face next time...," Hugh referred to the tax collector, whom loved to be a thorn in the side of the peasant village, particularly his family.
With time, Hugh and Bridget found the perfect recipe for honey mead. Once they sold a few, townsfolk were returning for more or referring other people in the kingdom to the Stonewall peasant farm. Even through the harsh winter, with the honey they had saved for themselves during the past seasons, they managed to get enough sold that they could work on building a second level to their home. Though it would merely be a small enough space for a bed, it would give their children a bit more space as they grew bigger.
The celebrated with their own barrel of mead, savoring the fruits of their labor. Bridget and Hugh could hardly wait to see the tax collector show up next time, which was quite an uncommon emotion to have towards the fool.

Ultimate Decades Challenge – 🐴Sombra🐎
Introducing Sombra the mare:
Naturally, when the Horse Ranch Expansion came out, I NEEDED it. I had already started my Ultimate Decades Challenge and was a couple years in… But with horses, it fit in very well with my Medieval gameplay!
Although I am not trying to be 100% historically accurate (and I am not a history buff), I felt it would be appropriate for my peasants to own one horse, perhaps gifted from one of their parents as a gift for Hugh and Bridget’s marriage. Also, I just want to incorporate the horse expansion into my game because…. HORSES, am I right? 💕 Anyway, instead of creating some in depth sort of story, I wanted to act as if Sombra had already been a part of their family and gave her and Hugh a small boost in their skills related to horse riding, endurance, temperament, etc.
Tumblr media
So, without further ado…. this is Sombra! Traits: Mellow, Independent, Friendly Skills: Temperament (Level 4) – Endurance (Level 2)
Tumblr media
Sombra is a gentle and beautiful white and chestnut pinto mare residing on The Stonewall Peasant Farm. Standing at 17.5 hands high, she is often used for travel purposes by Hugh, visiting various places in town and across the village and for the necessary tasks such as hunting and fishing that require more than just a walk on foot. Sombra’s role goes beyond mere transportation; she offers Hugh and Bridget companionship and a reliable partnership in their adventures.
Tumblr media
With her striking coloration and distinct physical features, Sombra is truly a sight to behold. Her coat is a harmonious blend of white and chestnut, adorned with captivating patterns that catch the eye. In addition to her mesmerizing appearance, Sombra possesses a rich brown mane that Bridget often braids at the root down her neck, adding an extra touch of elegance to her already majestic presence.
While Sombra may not belong to the draft horse category, her size is larger than the average horse, lending her an impressive stature and a commanding presence. Her height and build make her well-suited for the various activities Hugh and she undertake together. Despite her substantial size, Sombra remains gentle and easygoing, displaying a calm and docile temperament that only enhances her appeal.
One can’t help but notice the similarities between Sombra and the renowned Gypsy Vanner breed. The feathered fetlocks that grace her powerful legs, along with her graceful movements, evoke the charm and allure associated with these magnificent horses. This resemblance adds an extra layer of fascination to Sombra’s unique character and physical attributes.
With her impressive size, captivating appearance, and gentle nature, Sombra embodies grace, beauty, and loyalty to her family.

Ultimate Decades Challenge
...continuing Year 1304
Tumblr media
Bridget’s body convulsed with the intensity of each contraction, threatening to bring her to her knees. The pain radiated through her entire being, a relentless assault that seemed to defy her willpower. But Bridget was no stranger to this process; she had experienced the agony of childbirth before.
In her rural community, medical assistance during labor and delivery was a luxury that few could afford. Women like Bridget often bore the weight of giving birth without the aid of doctors or midwives. It was a reality that carried significant risks, both for the mothers and their babies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the pain wracked her body, Bridget silently reminded herself of the countless women who had come before her, the ones who had braved the intensity of childbirth in the most challenging circumstances. She drew strength from their collective resilience, determined not to succumb to the hardships that threatened her and her child. “I will be damned if I give up now,” Bridget murmured through her gritted teeth, summoning every ounce of courage she possessed. Though her husband, Hugh, was away from the home due to his job, she knew his mind was cluttered with the worry of knowing she had warned him of the possibility of delivering their newest child.
In the corner of the room, Bernedicta, was shuffling across the dirt floor as she picked up, not allowing her hands to be idle for any amount of time. She couldn’t let her grandchildren see how worried she was about Bridget. She tried her best to distract the girls, Eleanor and Edith, from crowding their mother, remaining calm amidst the chaos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the midst of a chilly, snowy morning in the year of 1304, a healthy baby was born. His name was Elias Stonewall, the first son and heir of the family.

Ultimate Decades Challenge
Year 1304
*POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING* ⚠️
-Mention of arranged marriages
Tumblr media
Hugh: Are you ready?
Eleanor: Yes!
Tumblr media
Hugh: Okay then! Tuck in, lay back, and let your imagination go free!
Tumblr media
Hugh: …and when they looked across the open sea, the sailors couldn’t believe their eyes!
Eleanor: -blinking sleepily-
In the year 1303, the lives of Bridget and her family unfolded with a mixture of joys and tribulations. Despite facing the harsh realities of the winter months, which brought scarcity of food, the Stonewalls remained relatively unscathed by tragedies. The landscape surrounding the family was marked by the ebb and flow of life, as it does for most families throughout the ages.
Bridget, a woman of her time but with a progressive mindset, found herself once again with child, not long after the birth of her twins. While some might have viewed this as a hasty decision, Bridget understood the necessity of expanding their family. She saw it as a societal need to bear a son and ensure the continuation of the family name, a matter of great significance in those feudal times. It wasn’t as though she didn’t want another child, of course; she loved being a mother and would adore a son. She pondered who she was besides being “mother”.
Bridget’s perspective on life and family differed from the societal norms that dictated the course of her daughters’ lives. She contemplated the future of her innocent girls and worried about the accelerated pace at which they might be thrust into adulthood. Arranged marriages, a common practice among peasants like her family, haunted her thoughts. Bridget struggled to accept the idea of her daughters being wedded off without their choice or consent, their futures decided by others.
In her heart, Bridget knew that her husband, Hugh, shared her sentiments. They both believed that their daughters deserved the autonomy to choose their own life partners, to experience love and companionship based on mutual understanding and affection. But the question that loomed over them was whether they truly had a choice in a society that deemed arranged marriages as the norm — a way of life engraved in the cultural fabric.
Resolute in their convictions, Bridget and Hugh made a pact, vowing to wait until their daughters reached the age of 17 before entertaining any thoughts of arranged marriages. It was a promise they made to their children, a commitment to defy the constraints of tradition, and to stand up for their daughters’ right to independence and self-determination.
Yet, challenging the established order invited scrutiny and gossip from within their village. Rumors swirled, questioning Bridget’s unconventional stance and fueling speculation about her well-being or motives. The curious townsfolk couldn’t fathom why she rejected the customary path of arranging her daughters’ futures. Bridget braved the judgment and whispers, staunchly.
Tumblr media
Bridget: It’s going to be any day now…
To be continued…

Ultimate Decades Challenge
Year 1303
*TRIGGER WARNING*
Infant and child loss was not uncommon among peasant families in historical times. Unfortunately, due to various factors such as limited access to healthcare, poor living conditions, and inadequate nutrition, many families had to endure the heart-wrenching experience of losing their little ones. The emotional toll of these tragedies was immeasurable, as parents grappled with grief and the challenging realities of life. These sorrowful events serve as a somber reminder of the hardships and vulnerabilities faced by families in the past.
Tumblr media
During the unsettling times of the Middle Ages, Bridget navigated through various hurdles in her quest for herbal remedies for the consistent illnesses that their village experienced, striving to provide the best for her beloved family. As she embraced the joy of welcoming twin blessings into the world, her heart broke when her newborn daughter, Elizabeth, succumbed to the merciless grip of smallpox. This heart-wrenching loss would forever change the course of the Stonewalls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hugh experienced immense grief after losing baby Elizabeth. The pain was beyond bearable, and his heart felt shattered. In addition to the overwhelming sadness, he had countless racing thoughts and worries. His child, Edith, had a twin sister, and he wondered about the long-term impact of this loss on her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hugh, filled with love for his family, embraced Edith tenderly, aware of their fragile state. Determined to alleviate their suffering, he embarked on a job as an Artisan's Assistant, aiming to secure a better future for his children and future generations. His unwavering dedication aimed to spare them from the hardships he himself had endured as a peasant.

Bernedicta plays an incredibly vital role in the family's healing process, particularly during Hugh's absence due to work. Despite the challenges they face, their precious little one, Edith, is thriving and filled with contentment. Bernedicta's profound nurturing nature truly shines as she lovingly sings lullabies to her beloved grandchildren, ensuring they experience tranquil slumber.
“Lullay lullow, lullay lully, Beway bewy, lullay lullow, Lullay  lully, Baw me bairne, sleep softly now. I saw a sweet and  seemly sight, A blissful burd, a blossom bright, That morning made and mirth among. Lullay lullow, lullay lully, Beway bewy,  lullay lullow, Lullay lully, Baw me bairne, sleep softly now. A  maiden mother, meek and mild, In cradle keep, a knavë child, That softly sleep; she sat and sang. Baw me bairne, sleep softly now Lullay  lullow, lullay lully, Beway bewy, lullay lullow, Lullay lully, Baw  me bairne, sleep softly now.”

Ultimate Decades Challenge
Continuation of Year 1302…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Typhoid Fever might have come and gone for Bridget quickly, but Hugh also contracted the illness and his body was having trouble fighting it. Bridget, on top of being incredibly pregnant, happened to contract Typhoid Fever a second time. This played a major role in Benedicta stepping up to care for Eleanor and bigger responsibilities that would normally fall under the role of Bridget.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It felt as though he was being ravished with the illness. He was constantly uncomfortable, feverish, weak, disoriented… He wasn’t sure how he did it, but he continued to go hunting and fishing for the sake of his family. And he played with Eleanor as much as he possibly could. His biggest fear was leaving this world while his children were still so young, and leaving Bridget all alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The days rolled on slowly, and Bridget could only take things one day.. one moment… at a time. This second pregnancy was much worse than her first pregnancy. She felt larger, heavy, weak, shaky, often times trembling trying to stand. She knew she was dehydrated from not only pregnancy, but from falling ill with Typhoid Fever again. She could see the illness taking her charming, kind husband down with it as well. While her fever remained mild, he was nearly bedridden most days. But he tried so hard to maintain his composure and responsibility as a father and husband no matter how much she begged him to rest. He was a hero, and she prayed he would see the day that his children would grow into adults… she prayed she and the unborn child would make it through the upcoming trial of birth.
Tumblr media
And towards the end of year 1302, there was not only one successful birth, but TWO! Both babies were born healthy as twin girls, Edith and Elizabeth Stonewall. Bridget felt relief soon after, still fighting Typhoid, but not feeling quite as exhausted. She hadn’t known that the reason this pregnancy was incredibly intense was more than just the normal reasons… two babies were most definitely unexpected.
We will see you in Year 1303!
