Plural History: The Multiple Code
So, admittedly, not many people in the plural community know much about our history. This includes us- information isn’t exactly readily avaliable anywhere we know of, and it’s not something a lot of people seem to have thought of researching.
So, when we came upon a piece of plural history from nearly 20 years ago, mentioned offhandedly, it was a little bit of an awakening on how long our community has been around and developing, and we figured that’s something it’d be beneficial to share with others.
Codes were a bit of a thing back in the early internet days- Popularized in email and USENET signatures (from what we can tell, information is scarce), they were bits of letters, numbers, and symbols meant to convey a lot of information in relatively small space. Here’s an example, so you know what we’re dealing with.
Tumblr media
Not exactly human readable, but that’s the point. Codes were used by a fair few online subcultures, such as goths, geeks, twinks, dragons, and, interestingly enough, systems, to communicate within in-groups. It’s hard to say where they were created, or when they went out of style, but I’d say their prime was late 90’s-early ‘00s. If you were active online at this time, feel free to add info!
I’m not entirely sure how serious these were, as the Multiple Code site describes the effort of fitting so much info into so few characters as “completely impossible and probably amusing”, but regardless, I’m decently sure these were still used as an (admittedly clunky) form of communication.
Looking at the website, which is thankfully still up, you can see that it was originally created in March of 2001, no doubt older than many active participants in modern plural spaces. There are sections on member count, innerworld, degree of coconsciousness, and “outness factor”, as well as non-multiplicity-related things like job, sexuality, diet, and paranormal experiences.
One of our favorite parts of looking through the code was the section on origins, which looks like this.
Tumblr media
While this was definitely before modern -genic labels, a lot of these terms are still used in some capacity today, and the inclusivity of all types of systems is wild-in-a-good-way to see.
I have no idea how widely this code was used back in old web days. We’ve done entirely not enough research. But simply knowing that we have always been here, and likely always will be, is extremely comforting.
By the way- there’s an effort to revive the multiple code! It uses updated terminology and streamlines things a lot, while still staying true to the original in terms of appearance and function. It doesn’t have to be your thing, but I think it’d be lovely to see it used in Tumblr bios or places.

before you ACT, THINK
Does it:
create yearning
make you sick with want
increase the physical ache to be held
contribute to longing eye contact across the room
force you to lie down like a Victorian waif undone by a single touch
make Oscar Wilde proud

Syscourse aside, Mad Pride and Disability Pride marches have been happening since the 1990s. It’s not a “what’s next?!” sort of thing, it’s been the status quo for three decades, and it’s gaining momentum now. More than enough resources to understand why disabled and mentally ill folks take pride in stigmatized conditions exist, and if you choose not to take part in it, that’s perfectly understandable. But to actively deride these sorts of pride movements as ridiculous and out of nowhere is to erase mad and disabled history.
I really - but like, REALLY - don’t understand “DID/OSDD flags” or anything related to that. Why? It’s not an identity. It’s a severe and debilitating mental illness. Why the fuck would you want a flag for that?! What’s next, you want a pride parade for DID/OSDD?!
I just really, really don’t get it and I’m starting to feel tempted to just block everyone posting this stuff because it makes me feel like it’s just more people that view DID/OSDD as a cool fun quirky identity trait.
Ugh, I just wish there were more people here that I would feel like are on the same line with how they deal with their DID/OSDD. I found a bunch of like-minded people and it’s been so nice, I just wish there were more. I wish looking at the tags made me feel connected and less alone, rather than upset and ashamed and whatever.
So yeah. End of rant, I guess :’)

Last year, The HRC (Human Rights Campaign), reported that in 2019 alone, at least 26 trans and gender nonconforming people were killed in the United States alone. Disproportionately, Black trans people were the victims. Those I have illustrated here, do not even scratch the surface of what is, and should be recognised as, an epidemic. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we do whatever we can to support the black trans community.

i’m speechless
Tumblr media
This is how the system of white supremacy  operates. The media is used 2 create stereotypes like blk on blk crime. They need black men to fill jail cells for the Prison Indstrial complex
You know what? I’m tired of this. I do not know what exactly they are waiting for. I mean our government comes up with “reasons” to invade other countries, such as Syria, like their government is allegedly violating human rights or something like that. but… I mean for other countries, they do not even have to go deep to bomb the fuck out of this place, they can just look at our media. And this has been happening to people of color since the media has existed.
I’ll never forget this 👇🏾

I’m a factive of Alexander Hamilton. May I have an astrology-themed aesthetic for myself please? Inspo from the musical is fine. For reference if you like: ☉Capricorn ☽Libra ↑Leo ☊Leo.
Here it is!! I tried my best to fit the astrology theme and include some moods ™. If you don’t like how it turned out feel free to send in another ask and I can remake it!
Tagging as kin for publicity sake.
