Doctor: You need to use a mobility aid.
Me: I’d actually rather just be in pain.
*later*
Me, in severe pain: *looks at mobility aid*
Me: …
Me: Ah.

Hey, to those who have knowingly dealt with chronic pain for years. As a newbie… can I get some advice?
I’m just kind of heading into this, but only because I put it off and tried to pretend it wasn’t happening.
Three years ago I started to lose the ability to lift my arm at the shoulder. Chronic pain. F that I’m literally 18. Go to doctor. Get hypermobile diagnosis. Get PT. Fix.. to an ignorable degree.
Hip to lower back issues, can’t lean forward at all without pain. Get PT. Goes away.
I ignore. I take easy on running, realize why running made every joint hurt, go about life.
Beginning of 2024 summer, back pain appears overnight. I am moving out. By the end I am nearly in tears (not usual. Ever.) and visibly hobbling. Nothing helps. Max advil nothing.
After move, starts to die down. Can’t lay flat, can’t walk long distances, can’t stand too long. Whatever.
Now.
It’s back. It’s not going away.
I am in pain so much. I sit down and my back hurts, I sit up straight my hip hurts. There’s this awful tingling that runs down my leg and it feels like everything is numb. I am walking through sheer will of remembering my leg is there because I can’t feel anything but pins and needles.
Except of course this weird fricking burning searing pain that sits right above my ankle and never goes away no matter what position it’s in or brace I wear or ice pack.
It’s 24/7, I can’t think, I can barely walk. I can’t go places, I need this to stop.
Please. Is there some secret? Is there a trick to at least soothing it? I’ve read about good days bad days, okay how do I get the good days because yall I can’t do this, I can’t, I can’t, please I need something I can’t do my work and I can’t talk and I can’t feel anything emotionally because it’s just full mental capacity on ignoring the pain, please I need help.
My plan is to go to the ER on Saturday and get a referral. I don’t want to and I can’t just take advil every 3 hours for the rest of my life just to think.
I’d rather be dead.
How do I do this?

Why do humans have such large brains if they seem to use them so little?

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.
Not me, (though I wish I had)

We didn’t come from monkeys!
Listen, we just have a common ancestor, not a grandfather way back in some random cave that still calls us ‘slugger.’
Monkeys did not turn into humans. What happened was that something else (not monkeys) turned into humans, and at the same time something of that same species decided to turn into monkeys.
That being said, this makes the church angry enough that it’s almost worth lying about.

Natural Selection
Natural selection has evolved everything in our lives to better help us survive and recreate. Every physical characteristic of humans is there because it is useful or functional. The same should apply to the mind...
And yet we have people that still believe in a Man that lives in the sky.
