As writers, we shouldn’t focus on how many people view our work, especially if we’re posting it online. We all have been conditioned by social media to get instant gratification by how many views or likes we get, but when we’re writing, we are releasing our fantasies and ideas out into the world. Your story is your baby. Why would you want to abandon your baby just because not as many people are viewing it? Still give your stories the love and nurturing it needs in order for it to grow to its greatest potential. You are valid to feel like you are not a good writer, but don’t let your doubt on your ability as a writer make you give up. Of course, burnout is a thing, but take the time you need, and then come back to it. Don’t give up on your stories so easily because the world isn’t ready to hear you. Keep telling your story, love, even if you aren’t getting the views and likes you’ve been conditioned to expect. 💜

Bro, the angry, hotheaded characters paired with the protector/caretaker is the ultimate pair for me. The caretaker is usually a people-pleaser, and puts everyone else’s needs before their own, and because of this, the hotheaded character dislikes them because they feel like caretaker tries too hard to impress people. As the hotheaded character gets closer to the caretaker, they see the exhaustion on their face and the fake smiles, realizing they’re tending to people’s needs at their own expense, which changes how they see caretaker.
One day, caretaker is checking in on the hotheaded character, asking them if they’re okay as they’re in deep thought about the way caretaker behaves. Hotheaded character nods, but then they’re like, “But are you okay?” This question leaves the caretaker a bit taken aback, as no one really asks if they’re okay. It’s as if this is the first time someone has cared for their wellbeing, but they put on a fake smile, continuing to pretend.
“Of course I am-“
“Oh, don’t bullshit me. I see right through you.”
Caretaker doesn’t know what to say at this point. They swallow hard and look down. Hotheaded character lets out an exasperated sigh before walking up to caretaker, cupping their cheeks while trying a more gentle approach than their usual rash tone.
“I-I mean…you’re always taking care of others, but do you take care of yourself?”
Caretaker is baffled by this question. When was the last time I took care of myself? Caretaker’s eyes drift off to the ground, clearly in deep thought. “I guess not,” they admit, but more so to themselves than hotheaded character.
Ugh, this duo is the absolute best. For both the caretaker and hotheaded character to have someone they can finally rely on and open up to. They no longer feel alone like they used to before they had each other.

The fact that animals that care for their young will sometimes adopt others' lost or orphaned young to raise along their own is just funny to me. I know that it's all hormonal and there's no conscious thought involved in it, but the internal logic of it is so funny.
"Baby = success. More baby = more success. I have one baby and I found four other baby. I have five baby. I am being so fucking successful right now."

Okay, a bit off topic from my usual writing posts, but you ever have a conversation with someone, especially when they’re across the other side of the world, and then get sad when they stop responding to you because they’re doing something else or they’re sleeping because you guys don’t live within the same time zones?

Honestly, watching a character go from the kindest, most trusting person in the world to being cold, rash, and closed-off is so sad. The world and people have let them down too many times, resulting in the building up walls because they can’t take the rejection and betrayal of those who claimed to “love” them.
These characters deserve love too, and are too afraid to admit they hate being alone and are scared that they’ll end up all alone again. It’s only when they meet the right people that they begin to open up, realizing while you can’t trust everyone, it’s not an excuse to shut everyone out.

I swear my character Deinara has my heart and is my personal comfort character. Between us sharing the same traumas and trying to prove to the person we hurt that we can be better, even to our own detriment is just, ugh. I love her so much, she deserves so much better </3

You wanna know the real difference between someone who just talks about writing and someone who actually is a writer? Well, it’s not talent, nor some magical lightning bolt of inspiration from the heavens. It’s just sitting your ass down and doing the damn writing. Consistently. That’s the whole big, unsexy secret.

My favorite dynamic is when two characters have a complex past that’s pretty messy and complicated, but found a way back to one another. They grow as people and learn the importance of communicating and hearing the other out, as well as learning not to push each other and others away.
That’s right. That’s my characters Deinara and Koa for you.
Here’s the image their relationship is based off of:

10 Flaws to Give Your Perfect Characters to Make Them Human
If you're tired of the usual vices like arrogance or impatience, here are some unique (or at least less basic) character flaws to give your perfect characters:
Pathological Altruism
A character so obsessed with helping others that they end up doing more harm than good. Their inability to let others grow or face consequences creates tension.
2. Moral Narcissism
A character who sees themselves as morally superior to others, constantly justifying selfish or harmful actions because they believe they have the moral high ground.
3. Chronic Self-Sabotage
A character who intentionally undermines their own success, perhaps due to deep-seated feelings of unworthiness, pushing them into frustrating, cyclical failures.
4. Emotional Numbness
Rather than feeling too much, this character feels too little. Their lack of emotional response to critical moments creates isolation and makes it difficult for them to connect with others.
5. Fixation on Legacy
This character is obsessed with how they’ll be remembered after death, often sacrificing present relationships and happiness for a future that’s uncertain.
6. Fear of Irrelevance
A character-driven by the fear that they no longer matter, constantly seeking validation or pursuing extreme measures to stay important in their social or professional circles.
7. Addiction to Novelty
Someone who needs constant newness in their life, whether it’s experiences, relationships, or goals. They may abandon projects, people, or causes once the excitement fades, leaving destruction in their wake.
8. Compulsive Truth-Telling
A character who refuses to lie, even in situations where a lie or omission would be the kinder or more pragmatic choice. This flaw causes unnecessary conflict and social alienation.
9. Over-Identification with Others' Pain
Instead of empathy, this character feels others' pain too intensely, to the point that they can’t function properly in their own life. They’re paralyzed by the suffering of others and fail to act effectively.
10. Reluctant Power
A character who fears their own strength, talent, or influence and is constantly trying to shrink themselves to avoid the responsibility or consequences of wielding it.

I’m so happy right now! I found a name for the character that’s going to be the lover of one of the main cast! His name is gonna be Osiris!

I’m still doing my character descriptions (they take a while 🥲) and I’m on the last of the main characters, Dylan. I had filled out who his enemy is and then next was his s/o and I just blanked on it. I realize I haven’t come up with much other characters other than the main four, the villain, and the protagonist’s family. I need to make a new character for my man Dylan to end up with because he deserves it. He always is there for everyone else, he needs someone to be looking out for him too.

Ugh, I’m literally doing the character description for my character Xander and I’m going to have a field day with this. I love sassy and blunt characters that act like they don’t care. Also, the aroace representation? Love it. I’m still deciding if I want him to be one or the other, or both still, but it’s safe to say that most of the crew for The Sunset King are not straight. Like Koa? Pan man. Deinara? Bi girly. Xander? Not attracted to anyone (most likely, still don’t know if I’ll just make him aro or ace or both). Dylan? Bi king. I swear, all of these characters are ✨mwah✨, chef’s kiss. Especially Xander and Dylan, they have the best bromance and are more mentally stable.

Bro, the absolute HATRED my character Dylan is going to have for the protagonist… He’s gonna be so lucky that Dylan doesn’t just straight up murder him. Bro does not play when it comes to people using his baby sister like a weapon. He doesn’t give a fuck that she betrayed Koa, he sees him just the same as the villain, who was once a father figure to him and his sister.

Personally for me, one of the best characters are those who are straightforward, blunt, and act like they don’t care, but are always there for others and give good advice, even if it’s harsh. For me, that’s my character Xander, he’s such a diva, a bit sassy, and I love him for it.
