Aziraphale is an Angel suffering from shame. Crowley is a Demon wracked with guilt.
The antidote for shame is love. The cure for guilt is forgiveness.
Two things they struggle with accepting from each other but are more than willing to give to one another.

I really really just want GO S3 to overlay Queen's "I Want To Break Free" song in a kickass montage of cut scenes back n' forth between Aziraphale f*ckin' up Heaven to try and get back to Crowley intermixed with Crowley sadly moping around Earth without his Angel until they're finally happily reunited by the end of the first episode. I'm not asking for much.... D:
[Verse 1] I want to break free I want to break free I want to break free from your lies You're so self-satisfied, I don't need you I've got to break free God knows, God knows I want to break free [Verse 2] I've fallen in love I've fallen in love for the first time And this time I know it's for real I've fallen in love, yeah God knows, God knows I've fallen in love [Bridge] It's strange but it's true, yeah I can't get over the way you love me like you do But I have to be sure When I walk out that door Oh, how I want to be free, baby Oh, how I want to be free Oh, how I want to break free [Verse 3] But life still goes on I can't get used to living without, living without Living without you by my side I don't want to live alone, hey God knows, got to make it on my own So baby, can't you see? I've got to break free

"Shame and guilt have followed humanity since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden."
Good Omens; a story of an Angel that can't accept love because of shame and a Demon that can't accept forgiveness because of guilt.
Tumblr media
"It'd be funny if we both got it wrong, eh? If I did the good thing and you did the bad one."
An in-depth analysis of an Angel suffering from shame and a Demon wracked with guilt.
Let's dive deeper below the cut!
[Now I'm going to lay down a lot of facts, definitions and minimal psychological babble and I want you, as the reader, to view this through your GO nerd glasses. Also, I want to express that I am not a therapist or religious in any way- this was all done as academic research for the fandom's sake cause I can't shut my brain up. I tried to organize it the best I could. ..sorry it's so long but I swear it's worth the read through! ;)]
-------=======-------
• Shame is the painful emotion you have when you perceive that you are not good enough in some way. Entirely self imposed and only known to you, shame can be an unpleasant self-conscious feeling often associated with negative self-evaluation. When shame is chronic, it makes you believe that you are fundamentally flawed, defective, dishonorable, immoral, or improper.
• Guilt is a negative feeling of worry or unhappiness that you get because you have done something wrong. It's a moral emotion that occurs when a person believes or realizes- accurately or not- that they have compromised their own standards of conduct or have violated universal moral standards and bear significant responsibility for it. When guilt is chronic, it can be a toxic emotion that could cause a person to take on unjust responsibility if things around them go wrong. They are quick to accept that everything is their fault even though it isn't.
While guilt is about wrong actions, shame is about being wrong as a person.
-------=======-------
In academic psychology, shame is associated with avoiding failure and its consequences while guilt is connected with forgiving and improving one's self, along with making amends.
Guilt and Shame are often confused for each other but there’s a big difference between the two. Guilt can help you understand how your actions impact others, but shame is an inward-facing emotion that reflects how you feel about yourself. (And I do realize that Aziraphale may, at times, feel guilt and Crowley can also feel a sense of shame. But the main motivation behind majority of their characterizations and actions throughout the series are both coming from these two different feelings.)
Guilt can help you move forward while shame keeps you stuck in the past. [such as the "We could have been.. us." and "You go too fast for me." scenes] And the only way to rid themselves of these negative emotions is through recovery with unconditional love and forgiveness.
-------=======-------
• How Aziraphale represents the concept of shame •
Shame tricks you into believing that you aren't good. That you are worthless. Not that you've done something bad, but that you are bad. Ever since Aziraphale gave away his flaming sword, he started to question himself. But it wasn't until he outright lies to his fellow Angel's about the true fate of Job's children that he truly believes he has fallen- that he violated God's word and lied (again). He believes there must be something truly wrong with who he is as an Angel. He's a flawed creation of God and he feels a dreaded sense of deep shame from this.
Feelings of shame can also present itself in different types such as, Chronic Shame (negative emotions all the time that you aren't good enough), Performance Shame (feeling as though you are inferior compared to others) and Shame from Unrequited Love (this is a feeling of not being good enough for another person T^T).
Shame is a harmful, negative emotion that when internalized enough can result in an overly harsh evaluation of oneself.
-------=======-------
Next, let's take a closer look at what defines shame and how it operates through Aziraphale:
• Being Defensive is a way to avoid taking responsibility for our behavior.
Tumblr media
"I don't need you." "And the feeling is mutual!"
• Perfectionism is the unrealistic desire to be perfect and is often a defense against shame. If we’re perfect, no one can criticize us; no one can shame us. We keep up a front that looks good to the world. We may spend a lot of time attending to our dress and looks.
Tumblr media
"I do have standards."
• Apologizing constantly. Shame can prompt us to be overly apologetic and compliant.
Tumblr media
"I did the 'I was wrong' dance in…"
• Procrastination can occur from a deep hidden shame. If we consider pursuing something and it doesn’t turn out well, we might be paralyzed by that feeling. If we never try, then we don’t have to face possible failure and subsequent shame.
Tumblr media
"You go too fast for me, Crowley.."
-------=======-------
Next are the four category behaviors resulting from shame:
• The Hot Response These are things you do when you feel ashamed and defensive, such as lashing out in anger or attacking the other person to deflect attention from yourself.
Tumblr media
"I don't even like you!" [always resorts to being defensive in any argument]
• Behaviors to Cope With or Conceal the Shame These behaviors include doing things to make yourself feel small, trying to avoid being the center of attention, or not sharing your thoughts or feelings. Concealing yourself is a method of self-protection.
Tumblr media
[always awkward and can't speak openly around other Angels]
• Safety Behaviors to Avoid Shame or Being Discovered This category of shame behaviors might be things like apologizing, crying, or avoiding conflict. People who have a tendency toward being emotional or avoiding conflict may be more likely to engage in safety behaviors.
Tumblr media
"Why? What's wrong? I mean.. if there is something wrong.."
-------=======-------
The Impact of Feeling Shame:
• Makes you feel like you are flawed or there is something wrong with you
Tumblr media
"I'm like you now. A demon. I'm a fallen angel.." • Can lead to social withdrawal
Tumblr media
[spends most of his time in the bookshop alone] • May cause you to become defensive and shame others in return "I'm an angel! And you're a demon!" • May cause you to inflate your ego to hide the belief that you don’t have value
Tumblr media
"Well, I am a great deal holier than thou. That's the whole point." • May leave you feeling empty, lonely, or worn out
Tumblr media
"But I thought you said it wasn't [lonely]?" • May lead to lowered self-esteem
Tumblr media
"I'm.. soft." • May make it harder for you to trust other people
Tumblr media
"Obviously, you're lying. You're a demon. That's what you do." • May lead to perfectionism or overachievement to try and counteract your feelings of shame
Tumblr media
"If I can just reach the right people and resolve all of this-" "That's not going to happen! How could somebody as clever as you be so stupid!?" • May cause you to engage in people pleasing
Tumblr media
"Doing good again, Angel? "Oh, hardly counts. Purely for selfish reasons." • May cause you to avoid talking because you are afraid to say the wrong thing
Tumblr media
[trying to explain to Metatron in S1 without revealing too much] • May cause compulsive or excessive behaviors like overworking, excessive cleaning, or having too high of standards in general
Tumblr media
[non stop research all day and night to look for the antichrist by himself]
-------=======-------
• How Crowley represents the concept of guilt •
Guilt is what you feel after committing a specified or perceived offence/crime/bad action.  It's typically attached to a feeling you experience when you do something wrong on purpose or accidentally and can regret that action. Guilt can be morally ambiguous.
Tumblr media
"Well, maybe there is something to be said for.. shades of grey?" "..Shades of dark grey."
Signs of guilt are unique but these are the most common (again there are many but these I thought related to Crowley the best):
• Low self-esteem
Tumblr media
*sighs* "Don't bother..."
• Excessive attempts at reparation [Crowley always trying to secretly help humanity when he can]
• Being unable to meet someone’s gaze
Tumblr media
[Covering his eyes not only hides his snake eyes but also his guilty feelings]
• Anxiety "We are fucked!" [and we all know TV!Crowley is 100% more anxiety ridden than Book!Crowley is lol]
• Trouble sleeping [Sleeps too long (100 year nap from book). Or can't get comfortable sleeping (from S1 deleted scene)]
• Depressed mood
Tumblr media
"What's even the point.. everything seems.. pointless.."
• Avoidance of people, places, or events linked to the cause of guilt "I'm not going to be joining their team and neither should you!" [doesn't want to return to Heaven or Hell and is "on his own side" to avoid them further] • Shifts in energy levels [can be giddy/jumpy one second to morose/moody the next, etc]
• Emotional outbursts
Tumblr media
"I'm just so angry!"
• Appetite changes
Tumblr media
[took up drinking alcohol even though its unnatural to]
• Making amends [spends every moment since Eden trying to secretly do good despite the hellish consequences]
-------=======-------
Defense mechanisms against feeling guilty can become an overriding aspect of one's personality. (These are also related to trauma response.)
• Displacement is a defensive tool that may take the form of blaming the victim or taking your feelings out on others.
Tumblr media
"You know what you've done. You've disappointed me."
• Projection is sharing the unacceptable feelings/qualities onto others, thereby being less alone with it.
Tumblr media
"But that sounds.." "Lonely?"
• Self-harm may be used as an alternative to compensating from one's past transgression. Not just physical self-harm but not allowing yourself to enjoy opportunities or benefits as a result of uncompensated guilty feelings.
Tumblr media
[always holding himself back for 6k years from saying what he truly feels and won't allow himself to be with Aziraphale the way he really wants]
• Repression is subconsciously blocking or forgetting harmful/traumatic memories. "Right.. looking at where the furniture isn't.." [doesn't remember his time in Heaven in detail- whether from trauma response or just had his memory wiped]
-------=======-------
Behavioral responses to guilt can be associated with the moral of their character. Feelings of guilt can prompt virtuous behavior.
Tumblr media
"You shouldn't test them to destruction.."
People who feel guilty may be more likely to: • Exercise restraint [holds his true feelings back for Aziraphale for centuries]
• Avoid self-indulgence [only really has his car and plants in the end]
• Exhibit less prejudice [is more open and accepting of other's sins - such as helping during the Scottish bodysnatching scenes]
-------=======-------
Guilt can prompt reparatory behaviors (actions to make amends) to help alleviate these negative emotions. People tend to engage in these reparatory behaviors toward the persons they wronged. Some religions theorize that forgiveness of sin (even those committed by accident or ignorance) is exclusively through repentance.
Crowley, being the wily serpent that tempted Eve to eat the forbidden apple of knowledge and subsequently getting her and Adam kicked out of paradise on Earth- and thusly creating the first sin of humanity. Right away, Crowley feels guilt from this.
After all, he was just told to stir up some trouble and had no idea the consequences of his first temptation on the future generations of human existence. Ignorantly doing something considered wrong and getting exiled.. this mistake would forever haunt him. He knows the pain and trauma from unwittingly doing something insignificant and being punished severely for it (such as asking questions or eating an apple) yet he accidentally made the first of God's new creatures "fall" in their own way from Eden. It's because of this guilt that Crowley spends the next 6000 years secretly rebelling against Hell to help humanity in any way he can to redeem himself.
-------=======-------
That's why their first conversation (post Fall from Heaven) on the wall of Eden was SO important to their relationship with each other and themselves.
Tumblr media
"Oh, I do hope I didn't do the wrong thing." "It'd be funny if we both got it wrong. If I did the good thing and you did the bad one." "No. No! It wouldn't be funny at all!"
I think the reason Crowley always seems to be one step ahead of Aziraphale (in more ways than one) is because, in a sense, guilt is easier to resolve from than shame.
If you acknowledge your mistake and the person chooses to take the steps to improve and change for the better, then they can recover from those negative feelings. They can work through the guilt by repairing the transgression or learning from it.
Whereas shame can only intensify inwardly and be harder to face because your mind is telling you that you are the bad thing, that you are the mistake. This makes it harder to overcome. And the only way to truly recover from shame is unconditional love and forgiveness- for yourself.
-------=======-------
“Instead of your shame, you shall have double honor, and instead of confusion, they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land, they shall possess double; everlasting joy shall be theirs.” (Isaiah 61:7)
And in S2.. we can see they both hold regret for their actions at the end of episode 6. If you look at every choice, ever misstep, every argument and their occasional confusion in understanding one another, you can see how Aziraphale was written with shame as a main part of his personality and Crowley written with guilt.
Two feelings that are often confused for one another but differ slightly in their own ways. The motivation behind every word they utter and every action they make throughout the series is built on the foundation of these two fundamentally negative and often traumatizing feelings.
There is a possibility to recover from shame and guilt and I have a feeling that S3's plot line will be all about recovery.
And that's what the concept of that Second Coming storyline might be all about. The New Testament says, "In Jesus Christ, God took upon Himself the sins of the world and died on the cross to pay mankind's debt" (Rom 6:23). "Those who repent and accept Christ's sacrifice for their sins, will be redeemed by God and thus not guilty before Him. They will be granted eternal life which will take effect after the Second Coming of Christ" (1 Thess 4:13–18).
A second chance. Forgiveness and Recovery from Sin.
And what is the story of Adam and Eve if not about humanity's Original Sin?
-------=======-------
Remember, after all is said and done, the antidote for shame is love, and guilt is cured through forgiveness.
Tumblr media
Two things a certain Angel and Demon struggle with accepting from each other but are more than willing to give to one another.
-------=======-------
[…There! I made myself sad again, lol. Thank you for reading this far! Sorry it was crazy long but I really enjoyed putting this all together into semi-comprehensible words (though stupid tumblr made me delete a bunch of pictures I had as examples…). Also, on a final side note- if you are ever experiencing overwhelming shame or guilt in anyway (which can result in depression or worse if not dealt with) please make sure you reach out to someone or seek professional help in some way. Take care, everyone! ^-^]

OMG I just realized something deeply profound about Aziraphale's (and subsequently Crowley's) character/personality that turned from a sad afterthought and now into a huge overly researched psychological analysis that is hurting to even write it out because it's breaking my own heart.. D:
I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN TO KEEP OVER ANALYZING THIS DAMN SHOW BUT I CAN'T STOP lol
update: this is taking longer than I thought. it's very in-depth and almost too long but.. I swear I'm onto something huge! ;) LOL

Temptation is the Name of the Game
"I am good. And you, I'm afraid, are evil. But people get a choice."
Tumblr media
Crowley has always given Aziraphale a choice. He's never forced him into anything he didn't want to do. He never assumed the outcome would be in his favor- just hoped. He tempts him and if the Angel agrees, then they'll continue their little song and dance together. But if he refuses, he leaves it be. Maybe he'll try again later. There's always been a later. Always another chance. After all, they have all the time in the world. Or so he thought.
Think back to their random S1E3 meeting in Rome, and how Crowley looked so incredulous when Aziraphale tries to tempt him into trying oysters and Aziraphale flirtatiously acknowledges their lil push and pull game of temptations through the years.
Tumblr media
"No-- that's your job, isn't it?" The wily demon tempts him, gives him a choice and more often than not, he gives in. But it's always been his choice.
We see Aziraphale truly give into his first true temptation back during the Job flashback in S2E2. Crowley tempts him with wine. Aziraphale refuses. Crowley doesn't push it. So, trying again, he gives him another choice.
Tumblr media
"Are you trying to tempt me?" "Not at all. Angels can't be tempted, can you?" And Aziraphale gives into the temptation (and to the point of full on gluttony- OMG THE WHOLE OX, AZI!? lol) It's the first time Crowley realizes that even Angels can give into demonic temptations. After all, his whole purpose as a Demon on Earth is to tempt humans. Humans are human because they get to make the choice between all the good and evil in the world as was pointed out in S2E3 in the Scottish minisode.
I feel like one of the main reasons Crowley instantly fell head over heals obsessed with Aziraphale at the wall of Eden was that when Aziraphale tells him he made the choice to give up his flaming sword to humanity, Crowley realized how different this particular Angel was compared to all the others in Heaven.
Tumblr media
Because normally, Angels don't get a choice.
They follow orders. They fall in line. They listen. They don't ask. Their autonomy is locked into a heavenly order that they must obey. And if you go against any of that, then you fall. You're damned. You become a Demon. Like him. Unforgiveable. But here, an Angel- that if given the choice between following direct orders from Heaven or making his own choice to do something that he felt was right at the time and getting away with it; as he still stands on the walls of Eden with his pure white wings intact afterwards- then maybe this Angel is truly something special. Aziraphale piques Crowley's curiosity. He fascinates him. He surprises him. He keeps him guessing. And he loves that. Aziraphale to Crowley is just one big unanswered question and Crowley spends an eternity trying to figure him out. So he keeps asking him questions to understand him. To make sense of how someone so pure of heart could disobey and still be holy. (aka my TLDR; mini post)
In S1E6, right before they dine at the Ritz in the finale, they have a cute little inside joke moment on the bench.
Tumblr media
"Let me… tempt you to a spot of lunch?" "Temptation accomplished!" It's like an unspoken lil game between the two of them at that point. Aziraphale knows that Crowley will always ask him if he wants to do something that might be against his natural instincts of being "the good one". But he also knows that he'll usually give in- especially if it's to spend more time with Crowley. After all, it's what Crowley does best (or worst. depending on who's perspective)- asking damn fool questions. What is a temptation if not a question proposed in the form of giving someone a desirable choice?
Tumblr media
"You and me, what do you say?" He bares his heart and soul and gives him one last choice to make. The ultimate temptation. Give up this idea of going back to Heaven and stay with me as an "us".
Tumblr media
"Oh, Crowley. Nothing lasts forever."
Tumblr media
"No… no I don't suppose it does.."
It's here that Crowley knew that their time was up- that he wouldn't be able to keep their lil game of temptations going any longer. What was once forever has turned into the final moments of the sand falling through the hour glass.
Tumblr media
"Oh, it doesn't matter. It's too late for that now, isn't it? It's always too late.." An endless void of eternity finally shines its light at the end of the tunnel. With each passing world-ending crisis, he can vividly see that there won't be another six thousand years to keep nudging the choice under Aziraphale's nose until he finally decides to give into temptation and choose to be with him. So, out of desperation, Crowley went all in and took Aziraphale's choice away from him in hopes of speeding things up before the hourglass empties completely. But as we all know..
Tumblr media
"You go to fast for me, Crowley.." Crowley has always been on a different speed than Aziraphale. Always one step ahead of him.
Tumblr media
They kiss and… Aziraphale breaks all our hearts by immediately forgiving him.
Tumblr media
"I forgive you." Forgiving him for ending their centuries old game. Forgiving him for taking that choice away from him- even if he would have said yes, it was still his choice to make. Crowley made the wrong decision to kiss him in that particular moment and he knew it- they both did. (side note: I'm not taking sides or putting blame on either one here for this "breakup". They both had their "wrongs" here.. regardless, I loved the angst and that kiss either way ^-~) But to receive that instant forgiveness from the most important being in his world was too much. So instead of pushing it further, he leaves the bookshop in devastating disappointment. And yet.. he still doesn't go far. He waits. Just like he always has been. Waiting for Aziraphale. Waiting for him to catch up.
Tumblr media
Crowley silently standing at "their" car across the street is his true final temptation and giving back the choice to his Angel. But this time without words. Without action. He leaves an opening for Aziraphale to choose to be with him one last time. Its the final move in their long game of temptation and Crowley still holds onto hope.
Tumblr media
So there he stands. Watches as Aziraphale looks at him through the window from the bookshop in trepidation.
Tumblr media
But ultimately, Aziraphale just gives him that one final sideways glance before choosing to step into the elevator and leaves him for Heaven (more on his reasoning for that choice in my other post). Their game is over. No more temptations. No more time. Each set out on their new paths. Apart.. With no apparent winner or loser... :(
I know.. I know.. I'm overanalyzing again. And I'm sure others have pointed this out in every way possible but I just can't stop thinking about it and sometimes I have to write it out in my own words to wrap my head around it all ^-^ ..cause I'm still hurtin'.. *cries* T_T I need to go read some South Downs cottage fanfics to heal until S3....

Aziraphale to Crowley is just one big unanswered question and Crowley spends an eternity trying to figure him out. So he keeps asking him questions.. tempting him with choices to understand him better.
But it turns out that Crowley doesn't just love trying to figure out the puzzle that is Aziraphale..
At least not until he's finally given an answer to the one big question he never realized he was asking the entire time..
Do I love this Angel?

And yes. Yes he does.

LOVE LANGUAGE AND MISUNDERSTANDINGS
Tumblr media
"But you understood me."
French is universally known as "the language of love".
Crowley remarks that they're both fluent in every language.
Aziraphale prides himself on his self-taught French speaking abilities even though he's obviously terrible at it.
Crowley speaks it with natural ease.
MEANWHILE….
Aziraphale is an angel who struggles with expressing his true feelings/what is truly on his mind..
Crowley is a demon who expresses his feelings and what's on his mind a little too easily..
AND THEY KEEP HAVING THESE MISCOMMUNICATIONS.
In 6000+years, Aziraphale had always known he could get his point across to Crowley in one way or another but..
Tumblr media
it's that damned S2E6 final scene that he finally realizes that he can't get Crowley to understand him when he needs him to the most.
Tumblr media
"I don't think you understand what I'm offering you."
Tumblr media
"I understand. I think I understand a whole lot better than you do."
Just like earlier with the French.
Aziraphale thinks he's speaking perfectly coherently.
But Crowley is trying to, yet again, point out that he's incomprehensible at that moment.
Tumblr media
"What's with the French?"
Tumblr media
"I learned that the hard way."
..AND YOU'RE GONNA LEARN THE HARD WAY AGAIN, MY DEAREST ANGEL D:
Aziraphale's ignorance to just how bad his communication skills can be at times is such a big problem- not saying Crowley hasn't said the wrong thing now and again either- but the way the show keeps pointing out Aziraphale's bad French despite him being an immortal being that is supposedly fluent in all languages.. except French (aka the very human language of love) that both of them struggle with- except Crowley is always faster on the uptake than Aziraphale in that manner.
Love is its own type of communication.
Tumblr media
It's something that is not only said with words but with actions.
I could write an entire essay of all the ways Crowley and Aziraphale have shown each other how much they love each other through their thousands of years together.
But it's once they try to put it into words.. they falter.
"And I would like to spend..."
I just hope in S3, they finally learn how to understand each other's love language.
It's something truly beautiful and tragic that our Ineffable Husbands love each other so damn much but struggle to verbalize it to one another and be understood properly.
Which causes those missed communications.. and breaks our hearts...

Sorry to all the Lucifer!Crowley theory lovers out there... :( But if you need something else other than Raphael!Crowley to fall back on, I'm here for ya'll! ;) Just for funsies ^•^
Crowley aka Archangel Jeremiel??
For years we've seen the amazing theories of Crowley's true name, his original angel form as possibly being Raphael and the most recent theory as possibly Lucifer. Both very believable imho.
But to throw my hat in the ring… my theory.. my new headcanon is that..
Anthony J. Crowley was.. Jeremiel!Crowley.
"What's the 'J' stand for?"
"It's just a 'J' really.."
Tumblr media
Crowley is definitely insinuated to be one of the Archangels or higher- a theory I think we can all agree on.
But for me.. I believe he is.. Jeremiel and I have the recipients to prove it below! ;)
• Archangel Jeremiel (Jerahmeel) is the Hebrew name for "Mercy of God/God's Mercy", "He will obtain mercy of God", "God pities" or "May God have Compassion".
• Is also known as the "Archangel of Prophetic Visions and Dreams."
• He communicates hopeful messages from God to people who are discourage or troubled.
• He helps us to become aware of our thoughts and emotions and how these may be out of alignment with what we really desire.
• They also say he helps newly crossed-over souls and the still-living review their lives so they can take inventory of their past and learn from prior experiences so that they're even stronger and more centered in love in the future.
• Furthermore, New Age believers say that Jeremiel is the angel of joy for girls and women, and he appears in female form when he delivers blessings of joy to them.
SO.
What does this all have to do with Crowley?
• An Archangel who's name is synonymous with the word Mercy. What is Mercy? Compassion that leads to FORGIVENESS.
"Unforgiveable.. that's what I am."
Tumblr media
"I forgive you." T^T
• An Archangel that has prophetic visions and dreams.
Crowley's vision is his biggest physical change from Angel to Demon. His cursed snake eyes.
Tumblr media
But he is also a Demon that loves to sleep for long periods of time- probably dreaming of the stars (or a certain cocoa lovin' Angel, hehe).
• An Archangel that brings hopeful messages to those that are discouraged or troubled.
"I hope I didn't do the wrong thing.."
"Oh, you're an angel. I don't think you can do the wrong thing."
"Oh, oh, thank you-- it's been bothering me."
Tumblr media
• An Archangel that helps those, living and dead, learn from their mistakes and problem solve.
Such as Crowley always questioning God's "bad ideas" and making suggestions to improve on them.
• And lastly, an Archangel that is referred to as a "him" but can, at times, appear as a female to bring joy to girls and women.
Take that as you will, LOL.
Tumblr media
PS. No joke. This is a depiction of the Archangel Jeremiel as an Eastern Orthodox Saint (lol Aziraphale is the Guardian of the Eastern Gates. no relation, I'm sure) where he is shown to have fiery red hair.

..In the end, I love to theorize while I wait for S3.
I love the research behind it all and thinking too deeply on benign fandom things.
And I could honestly go on and on about more lil details on this theory but... who would read all that lol
So take this all as just another fun idea to play with during our current hell that is between seasons limbo.
But for me… I'm far too deep into believing my own theory of Jeremiel!Crowley for my own good now, lol.
What do ya'll think? Possibility or am I crazy? XD

In all honesty, I don't need another kiss to prove anything or make up for anything in S3. We already know they're end game.
All I want is them holding each other gently, wrapped in one another's arms, slow dancing in their cottage to the 'Nightingale' song for the final scene.
This would feed my soul for a millennia.

"You can't leave this bookshop." "Oh, Crowley… Nothing lasts forever." "…No. No, I don't suppose it does."
I feel like this scene was exactly the same as:
"What does your exactly mean exactly? I feel like your exactly and my exactly are different exactlys."
The "Nothing lasts forever" line felt like not only a general misunderstanding of perspective on the situation like the "exactlys" line but also.. I think Aziraphale was repeating something Crowley must have once said to him long, long ago.
Possibly something Crowley once told him as a comfort to console him during a troubling moment and Crowley being Crowley gives him a gentle reminder that "nothing lasts forever" and that it's okay to let whatever bad thing might have happened go. It's life. Things will change and it's all going to be fine someday. It will be better.
Because Aziraphale's "Nothing lasts forever" sounded like an old conversation he was quoting to give Crowley the same feeling he felt at the time when he needed to hear something comforting for what seems like a bad situation (which I have an entire headcanon for what that situation might actually be for a later post.. or fanfic >_> lol).

But Crowley, stopping for a moment, looking up to the side to remember those words echoing back at him and thinking Aziraphale is telling him that "Nothing lasts forever" as in, things are always going to be changing no matter how important and ever lasting they once seemed. And to just let it go and move on.
For anyone that's been in a long term relationship, even the good ones can struggle with the simplest of misunderstandings like this.
I just really hope that in S3, we see a flashback mini-sode alluding to a big historical event that brings up this quote again. I swear it's like half a conversation from another time they were referring to here. Someday we'll know for sure….. sighs back to waiting….
