Soooo, its finally here! Chapter 1 was challenging to write, but I am quite happy with how it turned out :))

The thought of Lawson meeting Leopold Rochester will always be funny to me----you have a kind old man who is genuinely happy to receive a guest

CC Inkember 2023 Bonus: David Jones (Anger)

I wrote this short fanfic as part of something larger I've been cooking for a while that I hope to release at some point...but I thought this snippet fit really well with last year's Inkember post, so I decided to release it as a little bonus. Spoilers for case 52 of The Conspiracy under the cut!

Louis had barely sat on his chair at the table in front of the courtroom when shouting erupted behind him. 

“LEROUX!” Officer Jones shouted as he suddenly sprinted into the courtroom, ignoring the guards who tried to instruct him to calm himself and sit in the gallery. “YOU COWARD -- YOU DISGUSTING --EVIL-”

He made eye contact with Louis, who had turned around in his chair when Jones had screamed his name. As Jones sprinted towards him, reporters raising their voices in excitement at the drama surely about to unfold before them, Louis looked at the judge-- Aren't you supposed to be fair and unbiased and help keep order?-- and indeed she looked about to say something, when Jones' fist collided with Louis’ face.

“YOU BASTARD!” Jones shouted at Louis, who nearly fell out of his chair from the force of the punch. Leaping out of the chair and stumbling backwards as the cacophony of excited reporters increased, he watched in slight terror as Jones shoved the chair behind him, sending it crashing to the floor several feet away. “SHE TRUSTED YOU--” Louis barely managed to shield his face from another blow, his arm instead taking a hit. “SHE THOUGHT YOU WERE HER FRIEND --”

Jones wrenched Louis’ arm away from his face, grabbed him by the throat, and with an animalistic scream, threw him to the ground.

Louis barely caught himself with his arms as Jones shoved him to the floor. A sharp pain shot through one of his arms as it awkwardly took his weight from his sudden impact with the ground before Jones pushed him all the way onto the floor, his hands squeezing Louis' throat.

The man's eyes were red, tears still dripping down from them. He was no longer shouting at Louis, but his teeth were gritted together, ragged breaths forced through his nose, his shoulders shaking from his shallow breathing and sobs. 

He's going to kill me! Louis thought as shouting erupted in the courthouse, as people ordering Jones to let him go, saying he shouldn't be at the trial. Louis, rather unable to move his body from being pinned to the ground, grabbed Jones’ hands around his throat, struggling to move them off his neck. 

A moment later, the pressure around his throat lessened slightly as guards grabbed Jones and tried to pull him off Louis.

“Officer Jones!” one said. “Let go of him! You are angry and grieving, but you must let him stand trial!”

“Officer Jones, let go of him, you are a police officer, you have responsibilities to let the law prevail --”

“I DON'T CARE!” Jones shouted, as the guards managed to peel him off Louis, who immediately began coughing, gasping, and gagging, hunched over on the floor, hyperaware of the cameras flashing from his fellow reporters. “Let go of me-- HE KILLED ZOE-- I'LL KILL HIM! I'LL KILL YOU, LEROUX--”

“Officer Jones, I understand that this is a terrible moment for you,” the judge said. “But I cannot allow you to attack the defendant!”

Jones was still shouting as several more guards helped pull him back as he continued to fight against them, shouting threats towards Louis. The guards were winning the fight, however, as they continued to pull Jones towards the door of the courtroom. The flashing of cameras following them, they finally managed to pull Jones out of the room, the door slamming behind them, as Jones' muffled shouts grew more and more distant.

Louis was still lying on the floor, hand pressed over his chest, as questions from the reporters bombarded him and the judge.

“Your Honor, how often do loved ones of victims attack the accused?”

“Your Honor, if someone does attack the accused, are they charged with a crime?”

“Mr. Leroux! How do you feel after being attacked? Can you talk?”

“Mr. Leroux, are you going to press charges against Officer Jones?”

“Enough!” the judge said, banging her gavel. “Order in the Court! Mr. Leroux, please remove yourself off the floor and return to your chair.”

Unpopular CC Opinion #2--S5 Spoilers

I feel like we as a fandom don't talk about how screwed up it was for Rozetta to order the death of her mentor, Prof Kevin Charles???

NOTE: If you like Rozetta, that is fine! she is an interesting character, you are free to like her! this is NOT an attack on you as a person! Thank you!

Like, Rozetta was a test tube baby, so she never had a father. Denise had obviously long since abandoned her. I have no idea how Rozetta went from getting ditched by her mother to getting into college, but either way, when she was fourteen, Prof Charles basically took her under his wing, taught her the philosophy that became the foundation of Ad Astra. He was basically a father figure to her. And then, because he knew too much, Rozetta ordered his murder even though he was the reason she met all of her evil friends and started her evil club and came up with her evil plans. Of course, he wasn't entirely innocent in all this, he did teach and encourage violently classist ideas to Rozetta, but it's clear by the game proper, he thinks Ad Astra has gone way too far, and I doubt he knew anything about Denise's plans, and he did not deserve to get WHIPPED TO DEATH by a bunch of sadistic college kids. Ngl one of the most brutal s5 deaths.

(I also saw something on TV Tropes that implied that Ad Astra was a club made up of loners and outcasts. That is an absurd conclusion lmao---yeah, you could make an argument that even though she was a child genius and probably the talk of the university, Rozetta was very lonely given Denise abandoned her, and I guess we technically don't know if Louis, Julia, and Joe managed to be super successful and rich only after college (although in the US, politicians and CEOs usually come out of fairly well-off families, to put it lightly), but Christian? That man was born into wealth and riches, and he would NOT be ever hanging around unpopular or economic lower class kids lmao. I'm honestly surprised he let a teenage Rozetta boss him around when he was a young adult.)

Obviously, Rozetta is a villian, and was the main villain of s5 for 80+% of the game (depending on if you want to count Fairview or not) but the fact that the game vaguely sort of tried to redeem her, and many people consider her reedemed/redeemable, makes me think "yeah no she's not redeemable." Like, she had already done heinous shit up to this point (killing hundreds of people with the earthquake, even if she didn't mean to, with zero remorse, plus kidnapping who knows how many people and torturing them to death) that made her irredeemable, but this was so much more personal and it's not talked about much. Granted, I don't see many people talking about University in s5 much at all, I feel like the fandom almost unanimously agrees that s1 University is better lol. s5 Uni is one of my least favorite s5 districts because with maybe the exception of Azeeb I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate Junior Ad Astra I want to punch them all in the face and make them swallow their teeth and the other cases were boring (except maybe Pain in the Neck because of Julian) and there's almost no characters I like in it honestly I like Julian but thank goodness he did not get pulled into Junior Ad Astra bs
