Chapters: 1 / 3
Fandom: Bleach
Rating: Teen & Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kurosaki Ichigo/Urahara Kisuke
Characters: Urahara Kisuke, Kurosaki Ichigo, Grimmjow Jaegerjaques
Tags: the whole premise is basically this:, Ichigo: "You couldn't seduce your way out of a wet paper bag.", Kisuke: "...And I took that personally.", Seduction, Age Difference, as in the usual shinigami/human age stuff that even canon generally ignores, but it's discussed specifically so I'm tagging it, Kisuke is great at seducing people but not so great at not assassinating people's feelings, 'How To Express Your Romantic Interest Like A Normal Person' was not in the Onmi training regime, guest starring Grimmjow as that one friend who doesn't give a shit but makes you feel better anyway, Happy Ending
Summary:
Ichigo is absolutely convinced that Kisuke is full of it when he tells Ichigo that during his Onmitsukidou days, honeypot missions were part of his skill set. Honestly, Ichigo can't imagine Urahara Kisuke seducing anyone.
Which might be why Ichigo doesn't realize it's happening to him.

I said by end of March and it's end of March and here it is, I can stop hiding in shame now.

That's fucking it, I'm putting my foot down, by the end of March I'm gonna finish either chapter two of build your wings or the entirety of this currently 21,000 word standalone uraichi fic about seduction shenanigans. goddamn thing is probably gonna be 30k by the time it's done jfc
And whichever one gets done first, the next one will be done next within a reasonable span of time. Not a fucking year.
Deal with it, brain.
Update Mar 30/2022: So I didn't finish the seduction fic but chapter 1 of 3 is posted and the rest is like 86% of the way there so I think that's pretty good given my track record of failing to meet deadlines at all. :/

ok but we gotta talk more about vintage halloween costumes, we GOTTA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ESPECIALLY the diy ones. back before costumes were mass-manufactured, people were left to their own devices and shit got WILD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was an absolute free-for-all. back before you could buy a batman mask in a drug store for $5, people really just did whatever
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it was FABULOUS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bonus points to these early commercialization attempts. yes that is a batman dress
Tumblr media
anyway there is a basic human drive to wear weird-ass clothing and we should incorporate this shamelessness into our daily lives. only the most meagre of social laws prevent you from dunking yourself in body glitter and wearing a cape & pointy hat to the grocery story on a regular basis. revise your life accordingly.

build your wings on the way down
For anyone who might be curious about what's going on with build your wings on the way down (probably like two people max) I would like to note that I am still working on it and I hope to have the second chapter out before the end of the year. (Progress bars for my fic projects can be found here if you're interested.)
The reason it's taking so long is because right at the beginning of June I was hired onto an awesome new job, and by job I mean actual career in the field I went to college for, so that's been absolutely awesome and my workplace is awesome and my boss and colleagues are awesome and it's all fantastic, and also awesome. I'm so happy and fortunate to have been given this position and opportunity.
That said, it's a steep learning curve. The previously mentioned awesome boss and colleagues are there for me every step of the way, both as I find my footing and ongoing in general, just as they are for each other, but it's still a steep learning curve and the welfare of other people is in my hands. I generally want to do things both right and well in whatever I do, but I especially want to ensure I know what the hell I'm doing in this.
Long story short, it's been taking up a lot of my time and energy, so I haven't had much to spare to really focus on writing. (I've also had some writer's block but the delay has been 90% the new career.)
Anyway, just wanted to throw out into the universe that I haven't abandoned the fic. It's still on my to do list. It's not my biggest priority right now, but I know that some people enjoyed it and would be happy to read another chapter, so it's definitely a priority.
In closing, the second chapter is delayed but definitely going to come out. I hope you're all doing well and keeping safe!

When you have almost 37,000 more words written of the WIP you posted back on UraIchi Week 2021, but almost none of them are for the next chapter, and also you've written around 15,000 words of a one shot that you only need like 7000 more words to finish so you're torn between slamming through that or actually writing the second chapter of the WIP and your brain isn't listening to any instructions you give either way and currently has eight more ideas in progress for a combined total of ~40,000 more words so far and honest to fucking christ can I just finish at least one thing please for the love of god let me complete one work at a time it doesn't matter that I have close to 100,000 words written when I can't post any of them for people to read because they're not goddamn done
Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.

Tips On Introducing Characters
Tumblr media
This is also available on wordsnstuffblog.com!
– A lot of questions I receive revolve around the introduction of story elements, such as backstory and politics, so I decided to cover character introductions because it’s a good way to ease into all of these other topics. I hope you all find this helpful. Happy writing!

Find A Suitable Way
The way in which you introduce a character can be a really big subtextual clue as to who they are and how they will function in the story. Some really good ways to introduce them are:
show how a character performs simple actions
let their reputation speak for them in the form of other characters’ interactions about them
Use some backstory that shows the reader their relevance prior to their personality
Don’t Focus Solely On Physical Description
The truth is, when you meet a person in real life, you don’t spend 5 minutes analyzing the flecks of color in their eyes, the intricate patterns in their outfits, or the marks on their skin. Filter in physical description over time, when physical features become relevant to the narrative. First impressions majorly rely on subtext through common associations with actions, appearances, and words. It’s more important that your reader knows information about them than what they look like. The image will come together with time.
Avoid Cliche Introductions
Anne R. Allen made a short and simple list that she called the Robinson Crusoe Openings, and the following were on it:
driving alone in a car
sitting on an airplane
waking up and getting ready for the day
out on her morning jog
looking in the mirror
Simply, these put a bad taste in the reader’s mouth because every reader has seen each and every single one of those a million times before. There are more interesting ways to introduce a character to your readers, and there are ways that will suit your character way more.
Make Your Reader Care Early
Don’t jump right into the action without showing the reader multiple reasons why they should care about your character. Introductions are a good way to set up future information about their motivations, struggles, etc. which make your reader invested in what happens to that character.
Relevance = Page Time
What I mean by this is, the impact a character will have on the story and conflict resolution for that story (even in a series) should determine how much time is devoted to describing them. If they aren’t a huge part of the story now, but will come in hot in book 2, leave the meaningful introduction for when the reader actually needs to remember them. If a minor character comes in that isn’t apart of any major subplot or the main conflict, then spend less time describing them to the reader than the main characters. This seems like common sense to a lot of people, but this strategy is often overlooked in practice.

People in the online generation get so goddamn weird about Internet Content Creators:tm: as soon as those creators start making any kind of money off their work. This is especially true if the person being weird is one of those backers and therefore "entitled" to being horrible because they've paid $5. And it's completely indistinguishable from the way Boomers treat service workers.
Like any Online Millennial or Gen Z would balk at the idea of saying a single mean word to their waiter, but as soon as the creator they toss pennies at on patreon sets a toe out of line, (or not even out of line, maybe just not catering to this person's specifics wants, or not producing content as high-quality as it used to be) suddenly the Terminally Online are happy to unleash their unbridled fury, frothing opinions, and full-blown karen I'll take my business elsewhere and tell everyone to never shop here again-ness.
Except the difference is an entitled Boomer will march out of a store in a huff and be done with it, while the internet will try to snowball and dogpile until the creator is run off.
Like I've seen people get so weird about the McElroy content, and how "not-as-good" this that or the other thing is now, and they say this with such justified fury because the McElroys make money. This isn't "eh I've stopped listening as much since I don't like the direction." This is "how dare the McElroys not live up to my quality expectations when they're making money. don't they know they have to earn the right to have money with a good enough monkey-dance??"
Trust fund babies will ride out their McMansion lives never lifting a finger, but an internet content creator pulling in enough money to make a normal human living in a way that does not cater exactly to some segment of the internet's expectations is grounds for the most dehumanizing vitriol imaginable.
And no, before someone asks this is not apologism for people creating kickstarters and running off with the money. This is about how often a severely bad-faith take or plain cruelty is justified and propagated because the subject under storm is a "professional" on account of being compensated for their work.
I'd so much rather have a faceless corporation sign my paychecks for faceless work until I die than stake my livelihood on creating internet content I'm passionate about. I'd be happy to never receive a single dime from the internet. Because as soon as I do that, the public owns me, and the internet would be allowed to waggle a dollar above my head and say "dance monkey dance" without the slightest hint of irony. Or worse, they can say "remember that time we gave you a dollar?" "remember that time you received a dollar from someone?" as an absolute shut-down to any discussion of whether a content creator should have a right to do anything which does not cater directly to their fans' expectations.
Boomers' entitled harassment of service workers didn't go away with the new generation, it just got rebranded.
