Journal Entry #1 (July 16th, 2025)

Isn’t it funny how you can crave something you deeply fear at the same time?

I always thought my biggest fear was being alone. To be left alone to my own whims and devices, to feel as if I am so insignificant to others that they would rather leave than stay by my side.

But perhaps my biggest fear is really to be seen— to be seen as messy, as disordered, as careless, ruthless, compassionate, caring, kind, needy… to be seen as a human being with basic needs and wants.

I deeply fear confrontation. I have learned throughout my childhood that speaking up truthfully and honestly will bring you hostility. It will create a target on your back. You will be hated. But now im an adult that wishes to have friends and healthy intimate relationships. Part of growing up is growing out of the same shoes you painfully walked in for so long. My toes are warping the toe-box of my life at this point.

To grow is to change. And I am slowly undressing out of the shrunken baggage I’ve carried on my back for so long.

Me and Ashley 🥺 I loved this show so much as a kid. Reminds me of the good days. I feel as if a girl’s space and imagination isn’t as sacred anymore in the common era. Phones and tablets have taken over toys and the outdoors. Rich old people in Congress make being outside in the first place insufferable.

Secretary (2002)

There is a lot to be said about the movie Secretary.

As a kink enthusiast (and baby kinkster), I felt a lot of difficult emotions as I processed what was going on in the movie.

On one hand, you have a story of two freaked out individuals who matched each other’s freak perfectly: Lee, a woman with a history of self harm and mental ailments finding joy and healing in being a submissive, and Edward, an introverted lawyer exploring the depths of his dominant nature through roleplaying with his new hires (albeit not always consented to or encouraged by them!)

On another hand, you have a story of a lawyer exploiting his own power dynamic in the workplace to turn out his secretaries for his own repressed pleasantries. This is duly noted in the moment Lee walks in for her first day on the job— the woman he previously hired stormed out with a huge mess everywhere, sobbing. Oof.

Secretary is one of those movies that is a litmus test of sorts for how you examine your own personal “guilty” pleasures. Do you see Lee using positive agency in the scenes with Edward? Or do you see her as a victim latching on to a sense of control in an unbalanced environment? These nuances shape the overall view of how we especially view women and femmes in BDSM spaces. Girls deserve a little fun, too!

Alice: Madness Returns (2011)

American McGee put a lot of time and effort into his Alice series. From the tiny details in Alice’s multiverse dresses to the historical context of the time, McGee’s Alice was such a safe space for me as a kid.

It’s very sad seeing how he’s lost funding for his own project due to EA’s ownership over the series and lack of interest in a trilogy.

I’m still holding out hope in seeing Alice: Asylum, but we may never get that like… ever. In fact, the last part in the series is a collection of animations titled Alice: Otherlands. I didn’t really enjoy Otherlands as much as the main two games in the series, but there’s still much to appreciate about Spicy Horse and McGee wanting to try to tie up loose ends (again, no thanks to EA.)

Viral Yuri Web Manga 'The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All' Licensed in English

On Friday, Yen Press announced that it has licensed Sumiko Arai's viral web manga The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All (Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta). The first volume will be released in English in October 2024.

The publisher describes the manga:

Fashionable and upbeat high schooler Aya falls head over heels for an employee at a local CD shop. He’s got an air of mystery about him, great style, and an impeccable music taste. Little does she know—this supposedly male employee is actually her female classmate Mitsuki! Mitsuki generally keeps to herself, but since her seat is right next to Aya’s, she can’t help but be extremely aware of the other’s crush. Revealing the truth is out of the question for Mitsuki—but perhaps getting closer to Aya wouldn’t be so bad...

The popular manga was initially posted to X (formerly Twitter) in April 2022, where it gained immense popularity for its characters, storyline, and unique visual style. It was picked up for print publication in Japanese by Kadokawa, which has released two volumes as of February of this year.

The series has recieved high reviews and sold over 150,000 copies within the first week of the Japnaese manga. It won the web manga category in the 2023 Next Manga Awards.

According to the author on X, the series has been licensed in over a dozen languages and territories, including China, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Vietnam, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, France, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Readers can look forward to the first volume's official release in English this October.
