Youtube music "remixes"
I suppose I may have been duped by AI bots making music, but...
Attention youtube music contributors:
Slowing, speeding up and using effects to the entire track is not a remix. Please stop packaging these varieties of your tracks. If I like it I can slow it down, speed it up or process it with audio effects just like you can. You just make me not want to listen to your music because I want to just hear the track, not a bajillion different copies (slowed), (sped up), (ultra slowed), (slowed to perfection), (slowed with reverb), etc.
If it's slowed to perfection don't release it at the original speed... perfection should be how you want the listener to hear your music.

skin-tone emoji and me
so, i'm just lazy and don't want to pick what skin-tone i am when i react on slack. however that leaves me looking "yellow-ish".
as a white dude I acknowledge the privilege granted to me by the color of my skin. and the possibility of presenting that through emoji reactions makes me feel like i'm trying to claim that privilege in a space that i historically viewed as colorless, because it was all just plain text chat, but as i reflect now also represented another facet of my privilege within the upper echelons of world socio-economic-status by being able to participate in the nascent internet of yore through my access to high tech modems and personal computers...
**sigh** presenting race within communication tools still feels like a tricky space to participate. and it makes me feels slightly icky.

My Adidas
RUN DMC's "My Adidas" was inspired on a night with Russell Simmons, and the Def Jam crew using Angel Dust.
PCP.
As a whitebread suburban kid, my only knowlege of PCP is middle school health class in the D.A.R.E. era, is that's basically like the worst drug ever. like it turns you into a violent maniac who will keep raging after being shot multiple times by a cop...
and it resulted in an unheard of (multi?) million dollar deal between the rap icons and the adidas brand. my health teacher never talked about that part of it...

gnome-boxes vms using virt-manager bridged network
I started with using gnome-boxes.
it was flaky
i've started primarliy using virt-manager ( virsh --connect qemu:///session to be able to talk to the domains)
i wanted to share services from my hypervisor host (ubuntu 20.04 currently). primarily, because i'm still on old versions of libvirt/hypervisor kernel/whever else virtiofs isn't available to me without extra work, so i want to nfs share host files because sshfs doesn't support symlinks.
i found a couple of really good explanations of the process.
stack overflow ( https://bit.ly/47xx3S0 )
blog post ( https://bit.ly/3H9myJJ )
unfortunately that blog post going through the specifics of creating /etc/qemu/bridge.conf explicitly sets readability of the file to 640. AND thanks to bad error handling in virt-manager i was being told when trying to start the domain.
"Error starting domain: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xab in position 159: invalid start byte"
thankfully i came to my senses and started with virsh start because that got me a helpful error explaining that there was no access to read /etc/qemu/bridge.conf. makes sense if it's not a world readable file and i'm starting the domain in "user mode"...

Toyota yes day ad
Why is there a grandpa in the Toyota grand highlander "yes day" ad? He doesn't say anything or interact with the kids or the parents! Just sits there like putting an adult in the third row isn't uncomfortable. Especially for and old dude??

Finally explains to my why I can't order Athletic or BrewDog AF, or even Sierra Nevada Hop Splash through the mail. MI doesn't allow mail shipping beer because the wholesaler won't get their cut.
I actually got carded trying to buy Short's Thirst Mutilator at the grocery store. Just because a brewery brand makes a product it got flagged a 21+ product. So, it's an interesting example called out as non fermented so therefore it shouldn't be subjected to beer wholesaleing rules... :(
I don't think Hop Splash is fermented, but Maybe Sierra Nevada just won't ship beverages to MI because of the wholesaler - mailing protection.

Townes Van Zandt comments that this was the first song he ever wrote. It tells the story of his woman spending all his money, drinking, and leaving subsequently her, then in the end turning to Codeine for his escape.
To get to the point of songwriting after taking to abusing prescription drugs feels like there's some gap in the reality of this timeline. I'm thinking either this song started out as something very different as his first song, or saying that he lived a hard life is the understatement of the century, or he's not 100% honest about this being his first song...
Along with his other comments about 'Pancho and Lefty" being written about some historical figures he heard about 2 weeks after writing the song, i'm confused by Townes' perception of time.
Or maybe he was just high when this was produced.
Or maybe as a non-song-writer, perhaps he, the song writer, has a very different meaning of song writing than what i perceive as an outsider.
