When I was a kid, I went to the local library and read about Asian elephants and joined the World Wildlife Fund @world_wildlife with my allowance. Decades later I find myself in India, where the cultures are rich and varied, spirituality connects with deep time, and wild animals are among us. There is also a thriving but problematic tourism industry involving enslaved elephants. It is understandably tempting to interact with them. They are magnificent. Please, please do not. There is no such thing as a humane elephant park or ride. They have been stolen from their families and “broken” at a young age. The elephants in this album have been rescued after years of abuse to live out the rest of their lives and form new relationships with other elephants. They will never return to their long-lost families, but they will live in peace, eat their favorite foods, and never be beaten again… Please consider supporting Wildlife SOS @wildlifesos . They are wonderful. One of the ways they make a difference in the human lives involved in this is to make art rather than training elephants.
