I've just finished relistening to JFSP series 9. Again.

It's just. So good.

Jerry's speech at his (sixtieth?) birthday keeps echoing in my head. Gently, ladybird, here we come. And that whole thing - throughout the series, Jerry is characterised by his way with words. In most scenes, it's an important bit of characterisation, through his poems, through the Keeper of the Cakes of Pan, he is always using his way with words to make something more out of the situations. And we can see through his disappointment at the quiz for his 50th birthday that he enjoys that, enjoys being unique with his words. But then he loses that ability. He loses a big part of what makes him him. But he does not lose his family's love for him. They help him through it and help him find his words and himself again, and while he is on that path, they help him and encourage him and show him that their love for him has not changed.

That message there is so important. Even if you think that you have this thing that everybody likes you for and maybe you are afraid they wouldn't like you if you didn't have it any longer - chances are good people will still like you. Because they like you. And yes, that thing might be something they like in you. But you are more than that. And people see that.

The Downtown Club New York 1968

this is the one I have least written for, because I got the prompt just last week for my intoabar fic! I chose Crowley as the character who goes into a bar and Harlots, Slings & Arrows and Merrily We Roll Along as my crossover fandoms. I've written one crossover with Crowley before (with Harlots) and have another I want to write, but that's not how the dice fell this time.

my assignment: Crowley goes into a bar and meets... Mary Flynn (Merrily We Roll Along)!

Merrily goes backwards from the late 1970s to the late 1950s, and I've written a series of fics set post-canon (pre-show?) and one much later (my previous intoabar crossover with Slings & Arrows, where post-canon Geoffrey Tennant meets Charley Kringas), so the first decision was when in the Merrily timeline to set it.

the fic will follow the scene in Frank's apartment where Mary (who has been teetotal) starts drinking for the first time because she's distressed about Frank's affair with Gussie (who is married to Frank and Charley's producer, Joe). Frank is supposed to join Mary and Charley (and Charley's wife, Evelyn) for a celebration at the Downtown Club, described by Frank as "a smoky Greenwich Village dive", but we know by the end of the scene that he's going to stand them up because of Gussie.

the current Broadway cast (Daniel Radcliffe as Charley, Jonathan Groff as Frank, and Lindsay Mendez as Mary) singing "Old Friends", the song from earlier in the apartment scene, before Gussie and Joe arrive and everything falls apart.

in the GO timeline this follows the Soho 1967 scene ("you go too fast for me, Crowley")...

- As far back as I can remember, I had a passion for dressing up and playing games of 'Let's Pretend', which are, of course, the basic principles of acting, and if you are lucky enough, you get paid for so doing, hard work though it may be.

btw something im working on learning is that disabled is something that im allowed to be in public.

im allowed to lay down on the living room floor if im in middle of a conversation & enjoying it but feeling too lightheaded to sit up. im allowed to sit at the table to do meal prep and to sit on a stool at the stove to cook. im allowed to use my cane while i run errands.

if people are uncomfortable with my disabled existence, it’s their responsibility to work on that, it’s not my responsibility to try to hide my disability from the view of abled people.

i shouldn’t be relegated to my bedroom or to my house or to places where no one else will be just to have accommodations. im allowed to just exist & not have to pretend to be able bodied for the comfort & convenience of others.

disabled people are worth whatever cost or resources is needed to keep them alive. disabled people are worth it even if they don't live long. they're worth it even if they will need extra support and resources for every day of their life. they're worth it even if they spend all they life indoors. none of it is wasted. none of it is in vain. time, effort, money, resources spent on a life are not wasted. these things have served their purpose. the joy of someone's existence is not undermined by not lasting forever. there's no meaningful point, some threshold where you can say "okay this is enough. after that it's not worth it." it's always worth it.

Happy 10 year anniversary of the release of X-men First Class!

When I saw and fell in love with this movie, I could’ve only hoped for it to have longevity it’s had in my life. It is by no means perfect, but the time I’ve spent with friends watching it or drawing fan art or connecting with people online about it has brought me so much joy.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my love for this movie and greater love for this franchise. 💕

This is because Charles assumed it was fine. If things are fine you don’t have to talk about them. His best friend’s in love with him, big whoop. He seems cool with the fact that Charles isn’t in love with him back. And maybe Charles should address it at some point, now that he’s cleared his schedule of running from giant baby doll-head spiders/ being kidnapped by a murderous witch/ having angry civil servants pop up in their mail. But he does have forever to go about it, and deadlines don’t land the same when you’re the one that’s dead.

Only now he can’t stop thinking, can he? How Edwin’s wrists are so slender, so pale. Charles must’ve grabbed them a thousand times over the last three decades. But now he’s thinking of other hands on them, broader hands, encircling them like bracelets. Holding them down. Holding them.

Honestly, going to hell had been a whole lot easier.

hey fellow Europeans (EU), just a friendly and mildly concerned reminder that in less than a month, the European elections are taking place. it's an election with a historically low turnout, but one that is just as important as any other, if not more. the composition of the EU parliament determines the political direction of the EU, and has an impact on all 27 countries through directives and regulations that get voted.

we cannot let far right extremist parties get an even bigger stronghold there than they already do. sadly, there are very significant threats of exactly that happening from many countries.

so please, if you are an EU citizen living in the EU and are of voting age, check the modalities to vote in your country of residence, and make sure to make your voice heard.
