VOID PLAYERZ ONLY
as with the prev polls: if you consider multiple, i suggest going for the one u feel aligned with currently/most often, which one u wanna represent in a poll like this, whichever has the most compelling role/narrative, whatever works for U. classpecting is very subjective, and fluid for a lot of people.
i actively encourage discussion in the replies of what your class and aspect mean to u. simple or lengthy, i wanna hear it :J
excluding master classes bc no space for em, sorry.
for those who cant vote: i’d appreciate u passing the poll along. also, i’ll likely post updates throughout the week on how it’s going so everyone can have a peek inside. thank u

Oh boy.. I hope I can explain this well without sounding completely out of my mind. You’ve opened my favorite can of worms @freelancerofthetriforcekeyblade
So, it is a reference. Specifically it is a reference to the system of Classpecting from Homestuck. Classpect is a portmanteau of the words Class and Aspect, which are the two components that I am discussing here. An Aspect is both a representation of parts of a character’s personality and a shorthand for the general power set they would have if they were to be players in the game the plot of Homestuck revolves around. A Class is sort of like a modifier to the aspect. It’s how the character interacts with their aspect, what they use it for. In this case, I’m not focusing so much on the Homestuck game side of things, and am more using it as a way of analyzing these characters.
There are 12 aspects and 14 classes (two of the classes are different though, but I won’t go into that here.)
From the things I said in the original post, Blood and Heart are Aspects, Knight and Heir are Classes.
Blood as an Aspect is all about bonds, relationships, and leadership (typically more in an inspirational role than a physical one, but not always)
Heart as an Aspect is the soul, the self, and identity.
Knights weaponize/exploit their aspect, and are more likely to use their abilities for others than for themselves. (That’s what’s referred to in the original post as a passive class, but an active use)
Heirs become/invite change in and/or through their aspect. Meaning they control their aspect, but not in the sense of a puppet master, more as a conduit, if that makes any sense. They are also a passive class, meaning they are more likely to use their abilities for others.
So, an Heir of Heart becomes soul/is a conduit for change in themselves, leaning more towards helping others.
An Heir of Blood becomes bonds (ie: gets attached to people)/is a conduit for relationships & leadership
A Knight of Blood weaponizes relationships/exploits being a leader, usually with the goal of benefiting others.
I hope that made sense! This is something I do in my head every time I get into something new, but I’m new to posting about it so putting into words for people who don’t have the same kind of brainrot is something I’m learning as I go.
Apologies for a lack of posts! I fell down an AO3 rabbit hole and just crawled out.
I’ve been reading DCxDP crossovers, despite having 1) never seen Danny Phantom and 2) having never read any Batman comics, and only having seen like.. 3 Batman movies, none of which were the same continuity (The Batman, Batman Begins, and the Tim Burton one, for those curious. Of those three I only enjoyed The Batman).
That being said, I have aspect thoughts for some characters purely based on the fannon in these fics and would like to hear others’ thoughts. Note my above credentials and take everything with a grain of salt.
Batman, at least in any continuity it’s reasonable for him to have the Batfam in (glares at most of the movies other than The Batman), is a Blood player. He’s defined by his relationship to his city, his many children, his dead family, and his adoptive father/butler. He is 100% a passsive class, active use type. I’d say Knight, maybe Heir.
Danny is an Heir of Heart. Did I base this thought mostly on the fact that that is literally “One who becomes/inherits soul”? Yes. Do I still think it fits outside of that? Also yes.
Jason went grimdark when he came back and some of that stuck with him, maybe to the point that either his class or aspect fully shifted. I’m not sure what he was before nor what he is now, but I’m certain that they’re different.

Seriously though. I keep flipping through aspects for Jason. Rage, Doom, and Blood all have bits that fit and bits that don’t. Even with the Grimdark angle! I can see him being a Hope, Life, or Breath player before.
This is what I get for classpecting characters I know too little about but have brainrot over.
In other news, I keep wanting to say Tim could be a Hope player but I don’t have the facts to back it up, it’s just a thought that won’t leave. (Image if Jason had the Hope aspect, came back grimdark Rage, and saw not only a replacement Robin, but a replacement with his aspect. Fuckin ow. (This still doesn’t mean I’m set on this but the thought is intriguing.))
Also: Gotham is the most Derse dreamer heavy city on the map. And/Or it has a statistically improbable amount of people dual moons.

This is the post I was referring to in my previous answer
It probably says something about me that 9/10 if I get a piece of media lodged in my head long enough to truly call it one of my favorites, I will almost exclusively interact with it through fan things and not the original material. Though for most I do start with the original stuff. Except Batman.
Examples: Homestuck (the ultimate I can fix it/I can make it worse dichotomy), Descendants (I like un-disney-ified Decendants too much), Team Fortress 2 (the headcannons are too good), Batman (I have seen like, three movies, no shows, and read no comics, but I’ll be damned if won’t stop and read every batfam thing I see)
Exceptions: The Crow (I love all of the media for it, even the objectively terrible ones), Dead by Daylight (I haven’t found fan stuff that holds my attention the way this fuckin game does)

You've stated in your answer to the anonymous ask about maids that you don't take HS^2 as canon. What about the Q&As by hussie (specifically the one question where he talks about classpecting/lunar sways, how do you interpret that?) and the book commentaries?
Also, if Knight is a Passive, but only slightly Passive class, then does that make Page also a slightly Active class or a highly Active class?
To be perfectly honest, I’ve not read most of the commentary or Q&As. I take them into account when they come up in conversation, but I don’t go out of my way to find them. I got into HS in 2015 and missed a lot of the early stuff like as well as a lot of shenanigans In between.
I’m very casual about HS and it’s media for someone who thinks about it this often and has unfortunately made it part of my personality at this point. I just made a post on my most used blog about how I mostly engage with fandom through fan content rather than official sources.
Does this make me an unreliable analyst? Probably. But I did call this blog thoughts and not analysis so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m here for fun and to stop posting these thoughts in my group chats to my friends who don’t know what the hell I’m talking about. Apparently people enjoy it, as I’ve gotten a lot more asks than I thought I would! (I have a small backlog right now, I am getting to them!)
As for the Knight/Page question! I personally see both warrior classes light on their passive/active alignment. To exploit your abilities is an inherently active thing to do, but the other main verb for those classes is to serve. Serving is inherently using your abilities for others, and therefore passive. Some class pairs have more fluidity between passive/active than others. Bard and Prince feel much more rigid, while things like Knight and Page or Heir and Witch get much blurrier.
I hope that all makes sense!!

Reblogging this for all the prospit dreamer doom players out there (though for some of you the easy going is a stretch)
i am an easy-going, cute, and suffering-oriented person

Note
how do you feel about a prospit dreamer witch of doom? (me :3)
That’s a very interesting one!
Prospit is most often associated with a more positive outlook while Doom is typically more negative, so having both outside of having dual dream moons seems relatively rare!
That being said, the Witch class, in this case, feels like a balancing factor. A Witch of Doom looks at the suffering fate has given them and chooses to take matters into their own hands. The major difference between a Witch of Doom who is a Prospit dreamer and one who leans more toward Derse is in how they manipulate fate. Where a Derse dreamer would scheme and come up with a plan in advance, executing each part as to the letter as they can, a Prospit dreamer will live in the moment and adapt to situations as they come, often coming up with creative solutions seemingly out of nowhere.
I believe that a Prospit dreamer Witch of Doom would be the ultimate ally in a crisis, but it’s best to leave the planning to someone else.

maid is canonically a passive class my friend
So, I didn’t know that most any of the passsive/active alignments were truly canon so I looked this up to confirm a bit.
I feel I should clarify that I am almost completely ignoring the epilogues and HS^2. They are not my cup of tea and do not bring me joy and therefore I think about them as little as possible. As far as I can tell this was canonized in HS^2. If it was brought up in the main comic at any point I am happy to have it brought to my attention for discussion, though!
I would also like to politely disagree with this assessment of the Maid class, regardless of it’s canonicity. For starters, that would either leave Sylph as an active class, which I feel is deeply incorrect, or the class pairs would need completely rearranged. I have seen other pairing sets, but none of them resonate the same to me.
I also believe that there is a difference between actively using your abilities and being an active class. Knight in my opinion is very clearly a passive class. Their abilities are always at their best when being used for the benefit of others rather than themselves. However, they obviously do not sit only by and let things happen. They’re weaponizing their abilities. So passive intention, active use. I personally think that Maid is a similar case. Does that make sense?

Re: the Heart Player thinking... Could a Seer of Heart splintering be someone prone to seeing a bit of themself in others and/or a bit of others in themself? Or what are your thoughts on this?
Ooo! I really like that! A Seer of Heart forming splinters not within themselves so much as seeing them in others is a really interesting concept! And that works really well with Seers being guides of their sessions. A Seer of Heart will recognize the splinters of themselves in others around them and use the information to bring those parts out more or help the other person work through the bits that they see them struggling with.

Note
what do you think about witch of heart?
I’m unsure if you meant in general or in terms of my post about splinters and masks.
In general Witch of Heart, one who manipulates soul, is a powerful classpect, but one that is prone to control issues. Not as in a lack of control, (They have immense self control and outwardly seem to be among the most emotionally stable heart players), but they have difficulty giving up control.
That, however, leads me into the other idea. The Witch of Heart is one of the least likely kinds of Heart player to fully splinter. This is mostly due to the majority of their outward facing self being a mask/splinter of its own. Every bit of a Witch of Heart others see is carefully constructed to be as in control as they can be. No feeling gets out of their head without being filtered through the idea of what it would look like to others. This can often look closer to Mind player behavior from the outside, however, the process behind it is very different. A large part of a Witch of Heart’s journey is letting others past their mask to their true self without running back to the “safety” of their control. If the situation gets to the point where the mask falls before they are ready, it can shatter, and in the ensuing race to regain some bit of control they can end up truly hurting those around them and it can take longer than it should for them to realize this.
I hope that all makes sense!

This is pretty much exactly how I organize the classes as well, though there are some differences and I will sometimes use similar words to describe separate groups, as there is overlap even outside of the already well laid out overlaps/oppositions here.
(I also completely ignore the gendering of classes and my mind will not be changed on that.)
Thank you for having already put in the work on this so it could be found and I don’t have to fall over my words trying to explain this tangled web! (Though I still will 100% do that because it’s fun)
Classes Chart
Here’s a chart of all the classes, both Standard and Master.
My goal was to define, describe, and categorize them as efficiently and accurately as possible, based on my understanding of the classes. I based as much as I could on canon information, while inferring the rest.
(For clarity, “–” denotes Active, and “+” denotes Passive.)
(Note: If chart looks distorted/shrunken, right-click and View Image.)
Tumblr media
Special thanks to bladekindeyewear, dahniwitchoflight, infinitywhale and probably others for their insight and information, helping me understand the classes and aspects. I couldn’t have made this chart without them.
Some clarification: I am aware Hussie essentially said any gender can have any class (i.e. female Princes). I don’t like the idea of gendered classes, anyway, and I think it’s needlessly restrictive, not to mention sexist and stereotyping.
However, my chart reflects what’s been depicted in comic, based on what Calliope states, looking at the characters’ classes and gender distribution, and then making some inferences based on Hussie’s penchant for balance and based on class names and god tier outfit designs.

I realize that there a few different ways that classes can be paired up. This is the framework I tend to work under, though I am open to discussing it! (No particular order)
Create: Heir (Passive) - Witch (Active)
Protect: Knight (Passive) - Page (Active)
Steal: Rogue (P) - Thief (A)
Understand: Seer (P) - Mage (A)
Heal: Sylph (P) - Maid (A)
Destroy: Bard (P) - Prince (A)
(Master) Control: Muse (P) - Lord (A)
In this instance passive refers to using their abilities more often for the benefit of others and active refers to more often using their abilities for their own gain. Most of these I’m fairly set on, though I have been debating with myself whether Witch and Heir are swapped passive/active.
