i wrote something.

The floor squished with ooey-gooey sludge from the swamp and the air smelled of wet moss and rot. I pulled my hand from the soft, spongy floor. Looking around confused, Where am I?, I thought to myself. 

Where are you?, I spun around looking for the voice who repeated my question. 

“Hello?”, I yelled in shock. 

hello I heard faintly. Yet again I turned on my heel, trying to move quickly in the sinking swamp. I looked around for something to stand on other than the wet floor that was soaking through the socks I had on. 

“Where are my shoes, why am I only wearing socks?”, I thought, ridiculing the idea that I was in a swamp without boots.

I sprinted towards the closest tree with exposed roots to be my safe haven. What is talking to me? Relief rushed through me when I felt the solidity of the roots under my feet. I clawed onto the tree, looking back at my footprints to try to find the culprit of the voice. My nails started to sink into the bark, which felt more like cold butter. I could feel the trunk swaying as I tried to ground myself. I slowly turned my face, eyes closed, up toward the tree, expecting to see branches and moss. It was then that I felt a tickle on my nose, I opened my eyes and there was a lemur, or something. It looked as if it had never seen the fruit of any tree on earth. Its boney face stared back at me with dead eyes, and yet it didn't move an inch. Scooting back into the mud I watched as its eyes beat down on me. They followed me as I walked backwards. I wanted to turn around and run but I couldn't break eye contact. 

Then an idea popped into my head. 

“Hello”, I yelled, keeping a close eye on the lemur thing. 

hello, I could hear the whispers from behind me. I turned around to see nothing behind me. My stomach dropped at the sight of the empty swamp. I couldn't even handle the sight. It felt so wrong after hearing all these voices. What about the lemur? Why was he the only one there? 

More whispers. 

My thoughts weren’t mine anymore.

Everything was the swamps. 

I felt my feet slowly fall back into the mud of the swamp. The moisture wicking its way up my socks over my knees onto the shorts that draped over my body. Eventually my sweater was no longer a light green and it had darkened with water. The water kept flowing up my body. Up my neck. Up the back of my head. Over my forehead and chin. It engulfed me. I felt it make its way into my nose and mouth, stealing the space usually taken up by my breath. I stood there, unable to move as I sank deeper into the place I came from. 

With one swift and sudden movement I was pulled into the depths of the earth. Finally able to rest.
