Release Endorphins with Pilates! Endorphins are a “feel-good” compound that triggers the mind into a positive place and with exercise can reduce the feeling of depression. Endorphins are a natural chemical created in your brain that interacts with special receptors to reduce your perception of pain. They also trigger a positive feeling which increases the anti-depression aspect much like exercises like Pilates. With a variety of classes at our Tucson Foothills Club Pilates, there’s something for everyone to get those endorphins flowing! https://www.clubpilates.com/location/tucsonfoothills/class-schedule/

For some fitness inspiration #fitspo and #MondayMotivation, we have our top 5 tips for staying motivated:
1) Set goals
Start with simple goals and then progress to longer range goals. Remember to make your goals realistic and achievable. For example, if you haven't exercised in a while, a short-term goal might be to walk 10 minutes a day five days a week. An intermediate goal might be to walk 30 minutes five days a week. A long-term goal might be to complete a 5K walk.
2) Make it fun
Find sports or activities that you enjoy, then vary the routine to keep it interesting. If you're not enjoying your workouts, try something different. Trying one of our reformer pilates classes at our Tucson Foothills Southern Arizona Club Pilates is a great way to have fun with fitness! https://www.clubpilates.com/tucsonfoothills/
3) Be flexible
If you're too busy to work out or simply don't feel up to it, take a day or two off. Be gentle with yourself if you need a break. The important thing is to get back on track as soon as you can.
4) Make physical activity part of your daily routine
If it's hard to find time for exercise, don't fall back on excuses. Schedule workouts as you would any other important activity. You can also slip in physical activity throughout the day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk up and down sidelines while watching the kids play sports. Take a walk during a break at work. Pedal a stationary bike or do strength training exercises while you watch TV.
5) Join forces with family, friends, colleagues or neighbors
Invite friends or co-workers to join you when you exercise. Work out with your partner or other loved ones. Play soccer with your kids. Organize a group to take a Club Pilates class! https://www.clubpilates.com/tucsonfoothills/

Flexibility is extremely important for #golfers and is something that can be developed. If you are a #golfer who suffers from back, wrist, shoulder, hip, knee, or neck issues, this might be of interest to you.
During a golf swing you work in three different planes of motion: Sagittal (front/back), Frontal (side-to-side), and Transverse (rotating). A lack of flexibility, in any of those planes of motion, results in faults in your swing and inconsistent performance, which are clearly not great for your game. How often does your ball go astray? Limited flexibility is also often the cause of your aches and pains.
We can be proactive about finding tight or shortened muscles in the body by visually inspecting our body’s symmetry in all planes of motion. You don’t have to experience pain to identify opportunities for improvement. If your body leans to one side you probably have tight muscles pulling you in that direction and weaker muscles on the opposite side. #Pilates can help loosen tight muscles while strengthening the opposing weaker muscles. Easier said than done, but targeting areas of asymmetry has helped many feel, move, and perform better.
Below are a few basic #Pilates #exercises to help improve flexibility in all ranges of motion. These can even be used as a quick warmup before a round of golf!
Lying roll downs
Saw
Standing side bend

In honor of #fitnessfriday we'd like to share why #pilates is the best #workout for #men to kickstart #health goals or add to an existing routine. Why not check out a class at our Tucson Foothills Southern Arizona studio today?
Our Top 5 Reasons Why: #ClubPilates is Great for #Men:
1-It’s a full body #workout.
As a full body workout, Pilates doesn’t let you ignore “leg day”. Pilates develops neglected muscle groups. Some of your muscles, like those that dominate your daily movements, are stronger than others, and a big part of Pilates is focusing on those muscles that don’t typically get a lot of attention while lifting. It’s a great cross-training tool for sports, to make sure
2-It builds core strength.
Every single Pilates exercise focuses on using your core to power movement in your limbs. The movements are designed to engage your core throughout the entire practice. Pilates also hits your transverse abdominals, that coveted base ab muscle under your six-pack. Not only are you toning for that long, lean muscle, you are strengthening all the supporting muscles around your back and abdominals for a stronger, more balanced body.
3-Club Pilates improves flexibility.
Flexibility isn’t only for reaching your toes or showing off your splits. In general, the more muscle mass you have, the less flexible you are. Pilates’ focus on stretching helps prevent injuries and muscle strains, and increases range of motion. This will increase your mobility for everyday tasks, as well as improve your technique across all sports training! Check out what Erik Delarosa, body builder and fitness trainer had to say about Club Pilates!
4-Pilates was invented by a man.
Joseph Pilates combined education from his active background with other fitness observations to design a full mind-body workout. Pilates combined experience from weightlifting, gymnastics, boxing, dancing and other forms of movement in order to lengthen and strengthen the entire body. He even helped soldier rehabilitation in WWII by attaching springs to hospital beds, and creating personalized Reformers for the patients.
5-Pilates reduces health risks.
Club Pilates has helped members manage their diabetes, reduce blood pressure and recover from various injuries. We’d love to enjoy your healthy company for years to come, so start today and set some healthy habits! A few ways to start small: include fruits and veggies in your diet, add an hour of physical exercise to your week, schedule a doctor’s visit, or try Club Pilates to help reduce stress, reduce chance of injury, reduce the risk of heart disease, and improve your strength and mental health!

Thinking about trying a Reformer Pilates class but not sure. Looking for a little #fitspo? Here are few Frequently Asked Questions About Pilates that may help in your decision:
Who is Pilates good for? Everybody Needs Pilates! Club Pilates members range from teens to seniors. With nine signature class types and four different class levels, Club Pilates has a workout that will work for you. If you have very specific goals or workout requirements due to injury, you can start with private training sessions that are tailored to your personal needs.
Why should I try Pilates? Pilates conditions the smaller muscles throughout the body so you can improve your balance, mobility, and stability while preventing injuries. It is a full-body, low-impact workout that works core strength without overloading or stressing joints.
Can Pilates help relieve stress? Pilates is amazing because it helps relieve both physical and mental stress at the same time. The exercises in Pilates require concentration on the movement as well as the breath so the stresses of your day are replaced by calm focus. We all have physical stresses on our bodies – even just by sitting in traffic during long commutes or being on our feet all day. Pilates re-sets the body’s alignment and the movements work to add synovial fluid to the joints which helps reduce friction in movements.
What equipment is used in Pilates? When you walk into a Club Pilates studio, you will notice a variety of equipment. The Reformer is the main apparatus that you will be working on which uses your own body weight as well as springs and straps to increase or decrease the challenge. Your instructor will help you get used to the new motions, and be prepared to feel muscles that you’ve never felt before!! The Exo Chair, Bosu, spring board, and TRX are additional pieces of equipment used in class. They all add variety and constant challenges to each class session, so you are guaranteed to never be bored!
What should I bring to my first Pilates class? Every class participant needs grip socks. If you don’t have a pair, they are available for purchase at the studio. In addition, bring your reusable water bottle to rehydrate after class. And perhaps most importantly, bring awareness to your first class. How is your body feeling? Do you have any aches and pains? What are you hoping to get out of your Pilates class?
How should I feel during Pilates? During any Pilates session, you may find yourself shaking when executing various exercises, and that shaking is exactly what helps strengthen your muscles and joints. The point of shake is feedback from your body labeling where weaknesses, instabilities, and imbalances are. Pilates challenges stabilizing muscles that aren’t regularly activated during daily activities so they will fatigue quickly and you may shake or feel a burn in your body. It’s common in Pilates to feel sore the next day, usually in places you’ve never felt sore before!
I need moral support. Can I bring a friend? Absolutely! The Club Pilates community is really fun and inclusive. Have your friend sign up for the same class you’re going to. Or better yet, meet a new friend at the studio! Check us out at our Tucson Foothills Southern Arizona studio today!

You may ask yourself, what are those straps hanging inside a #pilates studio? If you’re curious, you may want to check out our #tucsonfoothills #southernarizona #clubpliates studio to add a little variety into your current #exercise routine! Visit us at https://www.clubpilates.com/tucsonfoothills/.
The TRX was invented by a Navy Seal inspired by his #fitness limitations at work while being deployed on a submarine or at duty. This piece of #equipment challenges #stability while saving space. The straps allow you to use your body weight in several different arrangements. Taking the principles of control, strength, form, and combining them with Pilates movements has created a tool bringing results to new heights. The ease of mounting the TRX has enabled studios to have members working out alongside each other without bumping or having to take turns.
Every instructor includes modifications and variations to suit their group level setting. This enables each person to feel accommodated and successful. Exercises that normally appear to be out of your wheel house can be modified to be performed by level 1 Pilates practitioners. For those that need an extra challenge, those same movements are increased with the slight repositioning of an arm or a leg. This enables a group setting to be working alongside one another all getting the results they showed up for.
Lastly, there are two words in the class level title: CP Suspend. This means that this class format does not only involve the TRX. It will always implement Pilates equipment, exercises, and principles on the Reformer, just like every CP class. You can be sure that you will be getting the stability, strength, flexibility, and mobility you crave as you weave through Suspend variations along your Pilates journey.
Your CP Suspend class is an essential piece to your #workoutgoals. Stability and balance are keys to #healthy joints, and the suspension challenge is the perfect way to get #creative with your #workout. In this way, the CP Suspend is where you take your #fitness to the next step and a successful atmosphere for everyone!

Our sentiments exactly! When talking about #reformerpilates, which we often do at our #tucsonfoothills #southernarizona #clubpilates studio : ) we sometimes hear, “What is the purpose of the different apparatus?”. When it comes to the case of our guest in this photo, he is utilizing spring tension. Why springs you may ask?...
THE SPRINGS
Spring tension is a major component of the #Reformer. This stems back to #JosephPilates’s original work. He used springs to simultaneously improve the #strength and stability of patients, while having them work in a controlled space. The resistance and concentration necessary when using the springs is a direct reflection of how the joints function within the body. Traditionally, springs were all uniformly standardized, but now there are various levels of tension to adhere to the diverse needs and capabilities of each client, which lead to better #workout and #exercise routine overall. Is #Pilates useful for #men? Consider this: Pilates was started by a man, Joseph Pilates; it's been a training vehicle for elite #athletes, both men, and women, for over 50 years; and men have figured prominently as instructors and promoters of the Pilates method throughout its history. At our Tucson Foothills Southern Arizona Club Pilates Studio, we see many men benefiting from our #reformerpilates classes. We feel this Very Well Fit article sums it up nicely: https://www.verywellfit.com/pilates-for-men-2704623 Why Pilates Works Well for Men
Core strength, flexibility, balance, uniform development, and efficient movement patterns—all are hallmarks of Pilates training and highly relevant to #mensfitness.
The emphasis on core training makes Pilates an excellent technique for whole-body fitness, as well as a foundation for cross training with other kinds of sports and exercise.
Increasing flexibility is a goal that Pilates addresses in a way that men often feel comfortable with. Pilates works toward functional fitness. That is, the ability to have the strength, balance, and flexibility that allows one to move through daily-life tasks with grace and ease.
Tips for Men Who Are New to Pilates
The best way to start learning about Pilates is by taking classes. Check out our schedule here: https://www.clubpilates.com/location/tucsonfoothills/class-schedule/
Developed on a man's body, and taught with input from both men and women, Pilates is founded on healthy movement principles for the human body in general.
Modification of exercises is commonplace in Pilates, allowing it to meet a variety of needs in practitioners.
Pilates is a body/mind practice where part of the exercise is to bring one's full care and attention to every movement. Sometimes the lightest setting on a piece of equipment, such as the reformer, is the most challenging for the core muscles. In Pilates, the controlled, well-aligned movement is the ticket to a deeper level of fitness. We look forward to seeing all - #men and #women - at the next class at our Tucson Foothills studio!

Considering taking a #Reformer #Pilates class but not sure how to prepare? Keep these tips in mind:
What to Wear:
Keep your #attire simple, at least at first, while you figure out what works best for you.
Think Form-Fitting, Not Baggy: Choose workout clothing that's stretchy but not baggy. This way, your instructor can see the #alignment of your bones and how your muscles are engaging. Clothing with seams and stitching that follow the center line and sidelines of your body can also help you and your instructors assess your alignment and symmetry during class.
Avoid Tie-backs and Belts: Tie-back tops can be uncomfortable when you're lying on your back. Ties, belts, drawstrings, and tassels can get caught in the springs of Pilates equipment and cause an injury.
Remove Accessories or Jewelry: Long necklaces, belts, and dangling bracelets can be distracting as well as dangerous if they get caught up in the equipment.
Opt for Unscented Products: Many people are sensitive to perfumes and strongly scented deodorants, lotions, and other toiletries, so studios often request that clients refrain from wearing strong scents.
Pilates Class Etiquette Dos and Don'ts
Do Let Your Instructor Know About Injuries or Changes in Your Body: Instructors will check in with students before class and ask how they're feeling and if there's anything special going on. But don't wait to be asked. Politely approach the instructor before class and let them know what's up, whether it's a seemingly minor worry or a more significant issue like surgery, pregnancy, neck pain, or back pain.
Don't Do Exercises that Hurt Your Body: You are responsible for your body. If an instructor asks you to do something that doesn't feel right, request a #modification.
Do Find out How You Should Leave the Pilates Equipment: Usually a studio will want you to return equipment to where you found it for the next class, so if you move a piece of equipment put it back. Wipe the equipment off when you're finished with the towels and spray provided.
Don't Be Afraid of Pilates Classes!
You may be excited or a little intimidated when planning to go to your first Pilates class. At our Tucson Foothills Arizona Club Pilates Studio, we want our guests to be comfortable when taking our classes. By knowing the basics of what to expect, you'll be prepared. A few more tips can be found here. https://www.verywellfit.com/prepare-for-a-beginning-pilates-class-2704429

As we gear up for the #weekend, we're contemplating what #healthy #outdoor #activities may be fun to do in the #SouthernArizona area. Some ideas may be new - and some may be tried and true and worth a repeat visit. Either way, getting a little #exercise in, coupled with some #freshair, sounds like good times to us! Check out our top picks for a weekend outing: Maybe a brisk hike through #CatalinaStatePark will get the blood flowing? With more than 5,500 acres of foothills and canyons, this park is home for more than 150 species of birds - and is a prime location for #hiking, birding and #biking. 11570 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85737 https://azstateparks.com/catalina/ Or perhaps #ColossalCaveMountainPark may be the perfect fit, especially if seeking a bit of a respite from the hot summer desert heat; the cave tends to be around a cool 70 degrees. Maybe check out a trail ride on #horseback, or visit the #museum to learn more about the indigenous #wildlife, see a butterfly #garden or the desert tortoise exhibit. The variety is enough to keep everyone in the #family excited about the outing! 16721 E Old Spanish Trail, Vail, AZ 85641 https://colossalcave.com/ For more great #outdoor #activity ideas, check out this USA Today article.
