I feel like daytime drowsiness isn’t talked about a lot when it comes to schizophrenia. It honestly sucks, cause I can’t function without either excessive amounts of caffeine (bad for me) or long naps during the day (not adult behavior seriously why?).

When you take into consideration that it often comes with insomnia - either due to paranoia, delusions, or just plain old insomnia. And antipsychotics have a sedating effect.

〈 SCHIZOID DEFINITION 〉

what is szpd? — schizoid personality disorder is a disorder in cluster-a and has the following criteria cited by the DSM-5:

A. — A pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of expression of emotions in interpretal settings, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by four (or more) of the following:

Neither desires nor enjoys close relationships, including being part of a family.

Almost always chooses solidary activities.

Has little, if any, interest in having sexual experiences with another person.

Takes pleasure in few, if any, activities.

Lacks close friends or confidents other than first-degree relatives.

Appears indifferent to the praise or criticism of others.

Shows emotional coldness, detachment, or flattened affectivity.

B. — Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or depressive disorder with psychotic features, another psychotic disorder, or autism spectrum disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.

Reminder for people with Personality Disorders:

You can be in therapy for years to be able to cope.

You can mask the difficulties you have.

You can cope well with your disorders.

You can function in daily life.

But the day you have a bad day, the day you're so overwhelmed that the mask slips and you simply say one thing, the neurotypicals will use it against you and use it to abuse you.

Abuse is a choice. Abusers make the choice to abuse someone. Not every abuser has a personality disorder. There are plenty of abusers that are Neurotypical. Plenty of neurotypicals will abuse those with PDs due to the stigma and misinformation around them.

Quit using terms like "Narcissistic/Histrionic/Borderline/Anti-Social Abuse"

Quit using "Narcissist" and "Anti-Social" as insults.

Quit justifying abuse towards people with PDs.

Quit armchair diagnosing abusers and assholes with Personality Disorders when you don't know the lived experience of people with them.

Stop fucking appealing to Neurotypicals.

Yes, this blog runs on a queue! (Unless there’s no asks, and we haven’t queued up any posts of our own!) That’s why the submissions are posted with the “sent in” date, so people can have a general idea of how far out their ask may be.

As for resources, it result depends on what it is you’re looking for. General info about StPD, symptoms and diagnostic criteria, the psychopathology and neuroscience, etc.

GENERAL INFO

Because a lot of the scientific studies and journals can be extremely dense and full of specialized vocabulary, I recommend starting with Wikipedia and “pop science” articles, to at least get yourself familiarized with the disorder. There’s no shame in using these sites. They’re written in plain, easy to understand English.

Just make sure they’re not the only resource you use for research, whether that be for self diagnosing, or just trying to understand the disorder better (for yourself or someone else).

A lot of these articles tend to be very copy-and-paste and will repeat the same general information about StPD, such as symptoms and potential causes.

Once you feel like you have a good grasp of the disorder on a superficial level, you can start to dig a little deeper.

A BETTER UNDERSTANDING

NCBI.NLM.NIH.gov and PubMed are two sites that are an archive of scientific and medical journals, essays and studies. PubMed seems to be making the move to hide things behind a paywall/login, but NCBI.NLM.NIH.gov has all the same content as PubMed.

If you see a journal hosted on PubMed, you should be able to copy and paste the title of it into a search engine and get the same essay hosted elsewhere that’s accessible without payment or login credentials. Sometimes they will be a PDF.

THE FULL PICTURE

As you read through studies and journals, you’ll find things you’re unfamiliar with that require further reading and research on their own.

In order to fully understand StPD, I personally recommend reading up on:

Attachment Theory (Disorganized Attachment leads to splitting in PDs)

Key Concept: Splitting (Black & White Thinking)

Narrative Self and the Theory Of Structural Dissociation (Splitting in PDs are why they’re narrative self disorders and part of the TOSD)

Theory of Ipseity Disturbance/Minimal Self Disorder (leading theory for schizo-spec disorders)

Schizotaxia/Schizotypy (schizotypal personality spectrum)

Psychosis, Brief Reactive Psychosis

And if you want: schizophreniform, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders. This research doesn’t have to be extensive though. The difference between these disorders is duration of psychotic episodes (and the presence of depression or a bipolar disorder in schizoaffective disorder). Researching these will just give you a better understanding of StPD quasi-psychosis and brief reactive psychosis vs the other schizo-spec psychoses.

I once again recommended that when researching these topics, to start with Wikipedia and pop science articles/blog posts to try and get a superficial understanding of the concepts before digging into scientific literature.

Something else to note, while we use “quasi-psychosis” and “schizotaxia” in a strict, cohesive way, there’s no actual standardized language when it comes to talking about… well any disorder, really. Sometimes schizotypal personality disorder will be abbreviated as SPD, or some other way. Schizotaxia and schizotypy may be used interchangeably, and “quasi-psychosis” may be defined in any number of ways. Two studies can be taking about the same thing but use different terms, and that makes researching really difficult! The more you read, the more you’ll understand StPD as a whole and the better you’ll get at understanding what an author is conveying, even if they’re using their own language to describe something!

There’s not a lot of StPD specific bloggers that post consistently, given the nature of the disorder (social anxiety, paranoia, disorganized thinking, etc). I’d recommend checking the StPD tags often/following StPD tags and following bloggers that make content you find relatable and/or informative. If anyone has a blog they like, or would like to share their own blog, feel free to!

I don’t know about social media outside of tumblr, such as Reddit, X, TikTok or YouTube. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, please feel free to leave them in the reblogs or comments!

Good luck, and don’t feel discouraged if you feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to take your time. It took me years to understand all this stuff I’ve listed here in this post!

can i suggest you use full words instead of tone tags? as a severely disabled person (moderate support needs, on the lower end of it) tone tags are very inaccessible. to people with memory issues, communication issues - autism that severely disables, brain damage, intellectual disability, etc. this is not aimed at you but the less disabled people community don’t tend to include severely disabled people, nor make things accessible for us
