Buck and Athena are both in the market for a new house, so they decide to go house-hunting together. Athena is all over what the best neighbourhoods are and how practical the layouts are while Buck is focusing on aesthetics and fire safety. Their opinions and knowledge just balance out really well and its a great mutual distraction from everything else that's happening. Does mean they become known as the pickiest pair on the market and estate agents dread to see them coming...

Omg, we're trapping Athena and Chimney together?! They have to work together?! Whilst they've both been going out their way to avoid each other because they both have complicated feelings about the other over Bobby's death?! That's some good shit and I haven't even seen it yet.

I feel like a lot of the reactions to the pacing and storylines and character behaviours are really telling of the fact that people haven’t experienced a serious bereavement personally... there's just a bit too much judgement and misunderstanding happening.
You can't really believe every character is going to be CONSTANTLY crashing out over Bobby dying. 1. They're first responders, its their literal job to compartmentalise to move on 2. It's exhausting constantly crashing out, and if you don't even TRY to live with it then what's the point 3. Not attempting to move on would be disrespectful to Bobby, especially when he sacrificed himself so the others could LIVE.
Not to say they won't have their moments. And they already have. This is a TV show, its not going to do the characters justice to focus on all their feelings all at the same time. It's much better to focus on a couple each episode and let it breath.
I've also seen people complaining that these stroylines feel unresolved. Of course they do, they're never going to fully feel ok about it again. Its the end of the season. He died very recently. Grief isn't a problem to be solved in 40 mins. Its something that you have to live with and will have its hard moments and its easier moments. You can't expect these initial reactions to have a resolution. Its not realistic.
I probably have other thoughts but I hope this makes sense coming from someone who has gone through close family bereavement. Basically, what's being put out is good and the actors are doing an amazing job at showing the different ways of living with grief.

With that teaser shot of the confession booth I now raise the theory: they're going to use the water from communion to put out the fires, cos its holy and probably separate from mains water (idk anything about church and the water but it seems right).

If we MUST have a new captain, then it should be Hen, she's best for the job. HOWEVER she should take time off at some point so we can have Interim Captain Buckley, just as a treat.

rip my husband and me waiting for max to knock on the door when tristan and avery were about to fuck
the saddest trombone, especially after the threesome flashback at the start which played us for absolute fools
look was the expectation realistic? no. but was the set up perfect? yes. so.

*rocking in a corner* they hadn't released his body, they hadn't released his body, they hadn't released his body, they hadn't released his body, they hadn't released his body, they hadn't released-

Hen's sobbing whilst she still has a punctured lung. It must be so painful to cry that hard and yet she still is. She's so grief-stricken the pain probably isn't even registering, or if it is, she just doesn't care...

Guys, all these exit interviews and odes to and love letters from the cast are starting to make this Bobby dying situation seem a bit more permanent than I'd like it to be...

This two parter really said "YOU get a Near Death Experience! And YOU get a Near Death Experience! And YOU get a Death Experience! And YOU get a Near Death Experience!"

i actually think it was really interesting the way that almost every character was trapped in a place of helplessness most torturous to them. like yes buck is in his worst nightmare, being trapped outside with no way in to save his family. but athena is limited to helplessness by protocol that’s above her head, something she always chafes against but this time can’t meaningfully get around. chimney is stuck on the other side of the glass unable to save his best friend. hen is stuck as the patient. maddie is stuck on the other side of the phone and forced to listen as her husband gets worse and worse. and eddie? god, eddie is trapped in texas, trying to choose his family, and he probably doesn’t even know that his real family is in mortal peril right now.
crucially the only two who aren’t restricted like this are bobby (which is likely to come up later) and ravi. and that’s what makes it such a good ravisode, because ravi is still the outsider to this little family. but he’s given that choice: save them or follow orders. and he makes the choice. because that’s what he’s learned from them, that sometimes you put yourself in danger to save someone else.
and then it doesnt even work. which puts him right into the same trapped, helpless boat as everybody else.

A little speculation of how 8x16 could go. Potential majors spoilers ahead.
They're at Bobby's funeral. The speeches have been made, the flag has been handed over, the tears have been shed. All that's left is the last call for Captain Nash.
"All units clear the radio. Dispatch to Captain Nash. Captain Nash do you copy? Last call for Captain Nash."
Silence falls while they wait for a response. Heads lower as any final hope slowly dies. The radio clicks as the dispatcher prepares to finish when,
"Captain Nash... 118... Copy."

The casting for the young versions of the mains was scarily good. Whoever was in charge of that deserves an award because those actors managed to get the mannerisms and speech patterns of their older counterparts DOWN!

We're being FED. Athena being a badass facing down stupid scientists AND the army for her husband? So good! Ravi doubting himself again then choosing an act of domestic terrorism to be the moment he believes in himself again? Yes please! Hen NDE involving field surgery done by the least medically trained firefighters? Give me more! Chimney going toe to toe with another exotic disease all while his pregnant wife has to listen to him coughing up blood? Ugh, the pain! Potential foreshadowing of Bobby's death and how it will affect everyone? Stop, its too much! Buck in emotional distress because the majority of his family are basically being sacrificed by the army and he can't fix it? God, I almost can't take it! But I will, because this shit is TOO GOOD!
