As I approach the end of my undergraduate degree in archaeology, I wanted to make a small thank you gift for my dissertation supervisor. She specialises in the early medieval period and is a big cat fan so I found a funky image from a Medieval Manuscript and embroidered a version of it for her!
The original image (final image!) is from the Peterborough Bestiary, produced in Peterborough, England during the early 14th century and now housed at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge (MS 53, fol. 197v).

A slightly different theme from me this week as I draw one of my childhood toys, the instantly recognisable Woody doll! My reference here was my own toy which I’ve had for just over 15 years now, and which has stayed with me all that time. The hardest part for me with this one was definitely the lighting and trying to convey the soft, vinyl-like plastic material from which the toy is made, as well as the general dirt and aging of the fabric!

A digital painting of the mythical Alicanto bird! ✨⚜️ This beautiful creature is said to live in caves and mines in South America, specifically Chile. It is said to be luminescent, with feathers that shine with a metallic colour at night - attributed to a diet of metals which change the colour of its plumage. Spotting an Alicanto without it seeing you is meant to bring good luck, but if it spots a person the Alicanto has an alleged tendency to barge humans off of cliffs!

A digital painting of a late Medieval (c12th-15th century CE) die found in Sweden and now housed in the @britishmuseum . Although not currently on display I was privileged early in 2024 to be able to study this and a few similar objects behind the scenes as part of some coursework for my Archaeology degree, and now that said work has been assessed I think I’m safe to post the for fun art I did during that process!

Sutton Hoo Helmet ✨ - Reconstruction of a c.1500 year old Saxon helmet, with the original in the British Museum, London.
Annoyingly forgot to do a time-lapse for this one but I love it regardless so sharing it still! Drawn and painted in procreate from reference as always.

Drawing Venus of Willendorf ✨ - a c.30,000 years old, 11cm (4.4”) tall statuette currently in the Natural History Museum of Vienna, Austria, this statue shows a beautiful early capture of the female form.
I drew this from reference (ofc!) using procreate as part of a series of archaeological drawings I’m doing to practice digital sketching and painting.
