#MuseumMonday I got to geek out as an optometry student at the Ellis Island @museum_of_immigration 🗽👁. Trachoma, a contagious eye disease that can cause blindness, was a major public health issue during the huge waves of immigration. Immigrants were required to have their eyelids flipped and checked for signs of the disease. . Necessary aside: the museum does an incredible job at highlighting the importance of immigration and how it has and continues to shape the U.S. We are built on diversity and the fact that our "leaders" choose to ignore this and push their own xenophobic agendas is more than disgusting. I'm SO guilty of waking up like this: aka falling asleep to my laptop/phone screens.
