Hi, I’m alive! Culture Critters and Cori’s Creatures is still on, it just took me longer than anticipated to get a job so I’m set back a bit in my plans. Currently I’m experimenting with foam bodies for the dolls so the old mock-up might go out the window. Anyway, happy pride and thanks to anyone still looking forward to this.

Page 1 - Meet the Critters!(Picture of all the critters lined up. Left to right: vaquita, axolotl, panda, wolf, cow.)
Page 2- Kaja. Pronounced “Kye-Yah”, Kaja is a name with many meanings in different cultures. In Estonia, it means “echo”. Do you think her howl echoes too? Likes: School, Sports, Windy days (perfect for kites). Dislikes: Failing, Bugs, Rainy days.
(Picture of Kaja the wolf in anatomical position, a sun for likes, and a rainy cloud for dislikes. The words are encased in separate clouds.)
Page 3- Growing up in Kihnu, Estonia’s island of women, Kaja grew up not often seeing her dad, who went to sea to fish for periods of time. When not doing chores or schoolwork, she spent most of her time waiting by the lighthouse for him to return. There, she enjoyed drawing, playing her flute, and watching the clouds. Nowadays, she works as a teacher with her wife.
(Pictures a crayon drawing of Kaja, her mother, and her baby brother waving at her dad who’s on a boat; Kaja sitting by water near a lighthouse with her arms propped on her knees; Kaja holding hands with her wife, who has glasses and a red skirt.)
All critters are a work in progress and constructive criticism is welcome.

Welcome to Meet the Critters!

Page 1 - Meet the Critters!(Picture of all the critters lined up. Left to right: vaquita, axolotl, panda, wolf, cow.)
Page 2- Ai. Pronounced similar to “eye”, Ai is a potentially androgynous, but often femininely used, name meaning love when using the shown kanji. Likes: gardening, painting, sunshine, and pumpkin mooncakes. Dislikes: locust season, eggs, cloudy weather, and deep pools. (Picture of Ai in anatomical position, a sun for likes, and a rainy cloud for dislikes. The words are encased in separate clouds.)
Page 3- When she was just a cub, Ai was adopted by an old farmer, who she since insisted on calling Yéyé, or grandpa. He taught her how to plant rice and prepare many dishes with the harvested grains. Her favorite chore was pounding rice into flour. Nowadays, she loves tending to gardens of bamboo, and often visits Yéyé to help around the farm, especially during harvest. She enjoys baking with him and reminiscing about the past. (Pictures Yéyé holding Ai, both of them throwing rice seedlings, and Ai watering bamboo shoots.)

The designs for the first release of Culture Critters have been decided! We have a panda featuring China, a cow featuring Nepal, a wolf featuring Estonia, and an axolotl and vaquita both featuring Mexico, of which the vaquita will also feature the third gender muxe. Details in shape and dress may change as prototypes and additional research are made, but the animals and countries won’t. Faces are planned to be sculpted with air dry clay while the bodies will be sewn with fleece or a similar fabric. Clothes will use cotton, ribbon, and puffy paint.
