the brighter recolor is how their scales look in saltwater/otherwise freshly cleaned. they spend most of their time between pearlseasons living in the murky rivers of the diamond spray delta so they usually look duller

And what is this Sea Shepherd Conservation Society??

they are a nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of marine life. notably, they’ve been at the forefront of efforts to protect the vaquita through direct action (as in they actually go in and pull up gill nets, patrol the Sea of Cortez to intercept illegal fishing operations, etc.)

the vaquita is only one of a multitude of imperiled species they are working to save.

suffice to say, i believe they are well worthy of support!

I recently illustrated a memo game "Endangered Animal Babies" for Treecer. This memo game contains 72 unique illustrations and 36 endangered animal species. Each pair consists of the parent and the baby animal and all the illustrations were done in watercolor.

I'm really grateful for this opportunity and very happy with the outcome of the game! The game is sold by WWF Finland and Treecer at the moment.

I have a really deep appreciation for animals, especially the endangered ones. So I made these two designs for prints, the thylacine and vaquita. Do you have animals you appreciate?

here are some illustrations i drew for my newest book, ‘Small Song’!

this book is about a young vaquita trying to find her way in a changing world. vaquitas are the world’s smallest cetacean, as well as one of the most acutely endangered animals alive today.

i wrote and illustrated this book. at 60pgs, it was no small undertaking! (took over a year to complete). i did intensive research on vaquitas for this project and included a section in the book with more info about them and how they can be saved (yes, even with only 10 left, it’s still possible!)

Small Song’s story is playfully fanciful &brutally honest in turns. all illustrations are lovingly rendered in marker&inks. i’m pretty pleased with how it printed, too! i hope you will love it, also!

Meet the vaquita! They are the world's smallest species of porpoise, (measuring about 5 feet in length), and can be identified by their distinctive black markings on their lips, fins and eyes. They live primarily in the Gulf of Mexico, and are one of the rarest dolphins in the world- but sadly this is because vaquitas are a critically endangered species. These adorable creatures have been hunted to the very brink of extinction for human consumption- specifically because they're believed to have medicinal benefits, but there's no scientific evidence to support this belief.

I've always had a fondness for the ocean and its sea creatures, and after learning more about vaquitas from Consider Nature's blog, I just had to draw one so that more people would know about them! The vaquita as well as many other species are suffering due to our carelessness, and climate change is only getting worse, which is why I'm happy to participate in this contest regardless of whether or not I win. I want to help spread awareness and hopefully inspire others to do the same 💙

vaquitas are porpoises endemic to the gulf of California, they are the smallest cetaceans known, and are critically endangered, to the point that a few years ago less than 20 individuals where known. this is because poachers looking for fish will accidentally catch them with their nets, and although various measurements have been taken it doesnt seem like theyve been able to stop the poaching

while there might be a very slim chance of some recovery its mesoma counterpart is extinct, and now haunts the coast as a tlapehuiloni (nahuatl for ghost, this translation might be iffy as some sources translate it as ghost and others as scarecrow)
