Artfight Attack on Axel_gizmo of their character Bobble! Technically this was a revenge as I was a part of a group attack, but it only lets the "main target" officially revenge it. Since this was a simpler character I decided to test how doing this traditionally would go. C:

Artfight revenge for Excellentnightmare of their character Sally! I have never drawn a seal so I thought she looked really cute and fun to try ^^

I haven't fully decided yet how I'm going to approach these besides the base sketching so things might get a little inconsistent, as far as doing basic shading and other stuff goes. But for the first one of the season I think it looks slightly fancy!

Current updates!

-Had to take a pause on my Big Project to do that sona ref and then get ready for Artfight, but I’m now picking it back up this week...inbetween the AF stuff 🤣

(Which shouldn't be too much of an issue because those are traditional art and I'm doing AF digitally, so I can fit that in whenever my eyes need a screen break)

-Speaking of AF this is the first year that I'm not on vacation or have a huge work project going on, so I'm curious how many I'll end up doing. 🤔 This is my third year and the most I've done with interruptions is 5, so my goal is, uhhh, more than 5

Aaaand here is my little Art Fight card! Finally got some of the newer refs uploaded and made a couple notes (notating the multiple form characters as opposed to uploading the forms separately) so I think I should be all set now.

I have certain types of characters uploaded, but I'm pretty comfortable attempting to draw whatever. ^^

Disclaimer: I almost exclusively do sketches/clean lines (and usually some sort of experimental shading), so please keep that in mind when attacking me. I will do Attacks, Revenges, and Friendly Fire though!

Ref is done!! Easy peasy to get done before artfight. I want to do some new icons soon too (a regular one and maybe a custom glowing eyes one for the reblogblog) but those are slightly less priority.

I love your witch phoenixes! Are they ridden bareback?

Thank you so much! :D They can be ridden bareback, but there are different back spine variants so it depends. For this I have drawn a couple illustrations!

One of the variants has a single line of spines. They can be either about as long as the ones on the neck, or very short

So here's the short/"nub" version (please just imagine a smoother size transition here lol.) No problem riding on this one bareback. The longer one's going to require a harness.

Another variant is the "double spine" one, where it splits into two rows along the back and then converges back into one somewhere on the tail (if it converges at all)

Technically this could be ridden bareback, but you have to fit yourself between the spines. Otherwise, harness.

This is what I'm envisioning for a harness ~ the spines are very flexible and can be flattened if gentle enough so it can just go right on top.

I also thought it worth mentioning that normally you'd just sit, but Tower (the guy in the other art) has magic wings, so he usually flies along instead

And then when he wants to take a break or whatever he just sort of perches on the back for a sec, like this, but in midair. Sometimes he also stands.

Still need to finish/go over the lines, fix a couple things, and I might redraw the big head, but going good so far! Hoping I can get it done by sometime next week.

Here's another creature I haven't drawn in a while - a bolt! I'd say this one falls into the "long" variant, lol. Bolts fall into a "dragon" category - but like the rest of the things that could be classified as a "dragon" or "dragonlike" on this planet, they aren't as large as you'd think. These are about the side of a cheetah at the shoulder but obviously much longer. The more classic images of dragons are still considered mythical creatures.

This particular art with drawn in pencil but I did most of the lines in ballpoint...which was a little hard because this sketchbook also didn't like the ballpoint (beginning to think this 'mixed media' paper is cursed and not actually good for much LOL) but! I did find some Staedtler markers I had laying around and layered them. That mottling looks so cool! I will need to play with them some more.

Today's update!

-Big project: I have 2 more panels to finish shading on this main batch, out of 17. I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish them both tonight because I saved the most complicated one for very last but I'm definitely going to get one of them done. I'm so freaking excited to be about done with this part, lol.

-So that means the next stage will be to go back over the lines (since I only did the bare minimum to be able to add the shading), do some adjustments with colored pencils/markers/gel pen, then scan. But 🤞 I don't think 🤞that stage will take nearly as long as this stage.

-The good news is this should finally free up some more time to do some other art ~ Pretty much anything else I need to do for the website besides this project I can totally post. C:

-Plus I am dying to do some normal OC art

I wanted to do something different this week and tested out this gel pen ~ the headshot was good and then it started skipping really bad when I got to the other one 🤣 idk I have really bad luck with gel pens, if you guys know of any good brown ballpoint pens please let me know

They are a very large species of avian, pretty much considered a wyvern (they even have a bunch of flexible spines) but with a lot of bird features. The name comes from both where they like to live (near "Witch Mulberry" trees, also a mildly poisonous type of tree), and their coloration. Sadly they do not breathe fire. While they have been known to scavenge they mostly eat fish and the occasional fruit. They are also fairly intelligent but have little interest in humans (except if you are a fishing boat)
