"my sister said so" "because im a girl I suppose" "all human girls yearn for love" it's very very aro to me. and this is in a world where desire/love gives someone power, so her accepting that shes "in love" is mainly a tool for her to utilize more than anything. I think aromanticism would save her. 100%.”

So, within the movie (Holidate) Sloane’s family is basically heavily romance involved and SUPER Amatonormative, and on the holidays - especially since she’s now the ONLY single person in her family - they judge her for not having a boyfriend and keeping on telling her and pressuring her to get a boyfriend-

While she’s NOT interested in getting a boyfriend at all and is VERY sick of her family telling her to get in a romantic relationship with someone.

SO much in fact that he hooks up with this guy on the holidays in order family to believe she has a boyfriend and STFU about her not having a boyfriend.

But instead of her breaking free from her amatonormative family and not getting into a romance with someone and sending the message people shouldn’t have to be in a romance in order to be happy and fulfilled in their lives-

The basis of the movie is basically her falling in LOVE with the guy she’s hooking up with and affirming that her family mindset towards her is right and that she finally found the one or something something *Amatonormative messaging* and it’s just like- UGH!

Why do you think aromanticism could save them?: “(contains some spoilers) I don't necessarily think aromanticism could save her but… She spends the ENTIRE series exhibiting such aroallo behaviors… She's always hooking up with men that she does not really have romantic feelings towards. The man she ends up with, Nikolai, is one of the only men that she has some sort of romantic/sexual dynamic with that she hasn't actually hooked up with iirc; though everyone thinks she has because she kind of has a reputation, but she lets people talk so people don't find out the real reason she's always with him at weird times (i won't get into it because it doesn't really matter here). She's also really good friends with him though, and his confidant, but this is before ANYTHING ROMANTIC ACTUALLY HAPPENS BETWEEN THEM! (keyword "between". I know Nikolai has had feelings for her for quite some time but she doesn't, okay?) I love them, honestly, but their romance is really rushed and amatonormative imo. Zoya spends the entire series telling him that she does not want to be in a relationship (!) but she goes through some character stuff, and Nikolai is really the only person (besides Alina, who is not really an option unless the whole storyline of the Grisha Trilogy was changed) who really is capable of understanding her to an extent by the end of the series, and then he steps down from the throne and gives her the crown and I really think if she knew what aromanticism was she would be like "Oh. Oh, no, I don't like Nikolai we're just in a qp/fwbr and I feel kind of indebted to him." I'm bad at explaining and I need to reread the Grishaverse. Just trust me on this one guys.”
