I know I said I was going to get started on Crowley is the midwife for baby Jesus fluff/humor (and I am still going to write that), but have some Crowley fails at being a midwife for Eve angst instead. That's just as good, right? Warning for childbirth, Christianity, and things that more traditional Christians would consider blasphemy below the cut.

He remembers before, in the Garden. The animals had simply been round, full-bellied next to their mates one moment, and then the next moment there were three of them, instead. It hadn't seemed difficult; it had seemed joyous. (He remembers the feeling of something you had created coming to fruition--no, better not to think of that now.)

This doesn't look anything like that. Eve has been screaming for what feels like hours, her face twisted up with pain. Adam hovers anxiously, but isn't doing anything that actually looks helpful.

Crawly's gut clenches, in sympathy and guilt. He knew that going against Her had consequences, but this seems like something impossible for Eve's delicate, mortal form to bear.

He wants desperately to help, but he had tried earlier, and Eve had screamed at him, told him that he'd done enough already. Adam had chased him away after that, and he watches silently from the shadows.

He wishes the Angel were here. He had seemed kind, and like he was willing to help the couple. He isn't, though, and so Crawly watches as the weight of his decisions plays out on Eve's face. Bearing witness is the least he can do.
