This might seem weird but im procrastinating and since ur one of my favs accs (and fanfic writer) on this app i wanted to ask you to motivate me to write, pretty please *blinks eyes*

Ugh I feel you, I've also been procrastinating like crazy so I might not be a great example these days...

BUT. I began working on my vampire fic again today and it brought me so much joy to remember that I can, in fact, play with my favourite characters like I would with dolls. I mean bro... you have so much power as a writer. You're telling me I can make my stupid headcanons come true, and people will still eat it up like it's fine cuisine? Unreal.

So take your time with it if you need to, but just think of the power you can wield with only words. You can do this bro, I believe in you ‼️‼️

I suppose Basil and I can indeed, on occasion, bring out both the best and the worst in each other. While I appreciate your concern, however misguided it may be, you must not confuse arguing with fighting. Besides, I never argue; I merely discuss. If I do not discuss with someone, it signifies that they are unworthy of my time.

Now that you mention it, I do not "fight" with my wife nearly as often as I do with Basil. No, for you see, that would require me seeing her for extended periods of time, which we both usually have no particular desire to do. The secret to a successful marriage is to be perfectly detached from one another. God, marrying Basil, can you imagine? He already does quarrel like a jealous wife…

I've listened to this song hundreds of times and I've never realized this. Oh my god.

okay everyone laughs at "he cums radiation" but like. the motif of the nuclear family? the masturbatory, self-congratulating sort of masculinity encouraged in the traditional "head of the household" (innuendo intended) without care or responsibility towards the damage that such a system may cause to the patriarch's descendants and partner? the fact that radioactivity lasts for ages, in a subtle comparison to that family trauma? like... it is a funny lyric but there's something there!!

Heyyy ‼️ Again, I'm so glad you liked the fic! I really gotta get back to it when I'm not paralyzed by the anxiety of making phone calls 🤩

I have quite a few headcanons, most of which are random as fuck.

• Basil has a huge thing for Henry's hands, to the point where whenever he would do hand studies for his classes, he would automatically draw hands that look suspiciously like Henry's.

• They have never said "I love you" to eachother (this is very obvious to me), but when Henry tells Basil to "never change", that's as close as it gets.

• And Basil doesn't realize that he "loves" Henry in any way, until much later when the feeling is dulled down by time (his conception of love in college was. Unclear).

• Not specifically Barry related, but Henry has no concept of personal space. He often forgets that people can get uncomfortable from being touched or having others get too close to them.

• Basil has a specific voice that he only uses with Henry (especially when he's annoyed with him), and he never realized it until Dorian pointed it out.

• Again not Barry, but Basil's (subconscious) gay awakening was St-Sebastian. He offhandedly mentioned it to Henry once, and now he can never live it down.

• Henry "forgets" his clothes at Basil's place (cravats, waistcoats, scarves, gloves, etc) and when Basil tries to give them back, Henry's like "I have never seen this piece of clothing before. It must be yours".

And other such things. I have a lot.

It's so messed up in so many ways, and I see many posts about it, but you raise some really good points. Wilde put a lot of himself into this book (perhaps too much), and we really need to keep that part of the meaning alive because, guess what: it's still relevant to this day! Censorship is clearly still very much a thing (as this fuckass adaptation illustrates), so to use this book specifically, which is mainly about art and what is says about the artist, and change one of the most significant aspects of it?? Insane, but I'm honestly not surprised.

RIP Oscar Wilde, you would've hated the way people interpret your work.

i cant really fully describe how disrespectful the netflix adaptation for the picture of dorian gray is, as i am not the secretly repressed homosexual man who wrote the novel and said all the characters represented him, nor am i a gay man who lived in the 1800’s, but i am queer and i do adore oscar wilde and i have studied his life.

not only is the book one of the first popular and honest representations of homosexuality, but the book is written by a man who said the book represented him. oscar wilde was a homosexual man. and after being arrested for indecency (doing gay things in simple words) wilde lost all his reputation and was pretty much exiled in british society (even beyond) - majority of his plays were phased out of the public and his name was silenced. oscar describes the picture of dorian gray’s three main characters as parts of him. Basil: his trueself, romantic, full of emotion, artistic and finds beauty extremely valuable. Henry: his public persona, the way the public perceive him and finally, Dorian: the man he wants to be - youthful and beautiful. Changing the main emotional plot in this novel, that happens to be romantic and queer, is not only disrespectful to the way Oscar wanted to represent himself, but also disrespectful towards the fact that Oscar himself was convicted for homosexuality and had a passage from the novel, where Basil confesses to Dorian, read in court as evidence against him.

leave queer historical figures alone. you do enough by just denying their identity.
