Hey guys I wanna make it clear I am going to specifically delete the Lucy post I made back in high school because certain people are either 1) not reading my post and getting offended that I dare to have a critical opinion about one character 2) using said post to send me horrible things and at this point I’m beyond tired of that shit 3) using said post to level accusations at me for no reason and with no evidence all because I have an issue with inconsistency.

Hi here’s some clarification on what I specifically meant I did make that post years ago!

I was more so talking about how she’s constantly shown to have complex emotions and issues and then immediately get assaulted on screen and belittled. For example Lucy’s serious emotions are either respected (when she told the spirit king to go fuck off for Loke, When she cried during Mira’s speech at phantom, when she was worried about Erza at tower of heaven) or immediately belittled and ignored (during s-class wizard exams, GMC (for like half the event), when she turned invisible, the clock arc (the anime only one), the oracion seis arc, The eclipse doors/after the GMC with future rouge (I forgot the name).)

Lucy is incredibly intelligent and very good at coming up with solutions and ideas in moments. The issue with the flare fight isn’t her compassion or empathy the issue is Lucy being belittled in a way that’s not even constructive.

There was no lesson or value within Lucy being beaten within an inch of her life in front of an audience. Even worse the entire fight was sexualized horribly and in full blunt honesty it read like a shock value fight or in more accurate terms the one sided fight that happens to a character just for the rage of said character’s friends.

It’s not wrong of me to be critical of him because it was done HORRIBLY. I would also like to repeat: the one sided assault being sexualized and then being used has an ignition for fairy tail vs sabertooth was absolutely unfair to Lucy and who she is has a character. Her compassion and love (my favorite thing about her actually!) is not the issue.

As a writer yes characters change. They improve. However the issue is about the absolute regression of Lucy. I would also like to add it is actually bad writing to have your characters inconsistent. Especially when there’s no consistent touching on core values for characters. (I will add that yes character regression can be used has a writing tool and yes if properly done it’s great depending on the character but for your protagonist of the story that’s something you want to AVOID! Your protagonist is not supposed to feel even more inconsistent and unstable at the end of the series.)

Usually if you are going to shift a character’s development there’s a few things (core values of your character that makes them who they are) that DO NOT CHANGE. They do not shift because that makes your character the character.

Lucy’s intelligence being inconsistent and her personality being morphed in every chapter is a valid criticism. I am allowed to be critical that Lucy is portrayed has smart only when mashima wants her to be when that’s not how that works. When Lucy is portrayed has strong in her morals and suddenly said morals and core values are shifted and thrown around because of someone saying something?

It’s quite frankly disheartening to even watch especially after the first season. I’m allowed to be critical and call out what I see has a writer please never equate criticism of an author to disrespect ever again.

That’s not even half the problems with the inconsistent writing and the way she’s portrayed. But I’ll keep it short because I do not have time to deep dive into this right now!

Hey so I just wanna talk about how fucking stupid Mashima's writting with Lucy is. No this isn't Lucy hate. It's an actual statement about Mashima's shitty fucking characterization and writting.

That being said let's get started.

We all know Lucy kicked a Wizard Saints fucking ass by kicking him in the balls. We also know Lucy becomes strong has shit and badass.

But that's not my issue here. My issue is that Mashima writes her weird. Now let me explain this, Lucy is shown to have a temper. She's literally known for it.

We've seen her lose her shit a lot in the beginning. However after seeing Lucy help out Natsu during his fight with Gajeel, even telling the man off for crying out loud & getting the shit beaten out of her but still somehow having hope? And then Her Star Dresses which I'll get into later on.

It makes this bullshit version of her, very horrible when she was such a good character to begin with.

Scenes like this don't make much sense to me. Lucy in the fight with Flare, gets beaten. Later on Laxus, even obliterating her Guild says: This is for Lucy. Now I don't have an issue with the whole: Getting back at those who hurt your friend. I just don't understand why it's Lucy who has to be beaten twice. Lucy who's progressed so far. Lucy who basically told Gajeel to fuck off. Lucy who took down a Saint by kicking him in the balls.

It just doesn't make any sort of sense to me. This is supposedly the same girl that summoned all of her spirits at once, told her father off in the most savage way and fucking told the Celestial Spirit King he was wrong right to his face. Now getting into the Star Dresses scene I mentioned earlier. That scene was great. However it's also the FIRST fucking scene we have since the beginning that shows Lucy.

What I mean by that is: This is the one time we have gotten Lucy herself, in character, being a badass per usual. Unfortunately she still has the shitty characterization Mashima gave her. But that moment? Seeing Lucy the girl who told the world to fuck off more than once? That was fucking amazing because I do not like this Marry Sue bullshit Mashima pulled with her.

Give me back the Lucy from the beginning who lost her fucking shit and wasn't ever afraid to speak her damn mind. Give me back the Lucy who was never once afraid to punch the shit out of anyone. Give me back Lucy who fucking told a whole King to fuck off with his opinion because she didn't agree with him.

I don't know who this submissive girl is but I don't fucking like her. Slightly off topic but do you all remember that scene where Lucy tries to fight Natsu? And he blows fire under her skirt? Yeah no. Out of character because Lucy would of beat his ass for it. Hell she's hit him for less.

Anyways that's just my fucking rant (& opinion). Super pissy because we could of had main character Lucy instead of Natsu Throws A Bitch Fit Every Two Seconds And Wins.

Now that they are older gray will still start fights with natsu but if he wants warmth he just drapes himself over natsu like a cat

Gray and Erza are actually SUPER close friends! Erza can’t bring herself to cry openly infront of anyone else, Gray will spend alot of time with her just in silence or playing games (the favorite is go fish)

Gray is labeled resident big brother because he takes care of everyone with Mirajane and then turns around and makes her take a nap
