Happy #InternationalWomenDay! This year, the campaign focuses on the equity with the message, #EmbraceEquity. Women have come a long way but we still have a lot of work to do and that is shown with recent events. More opportunities need to be created in order for our society to create a more equal outcome. Books of 2022: "The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks" by @shauna.robs ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 If you are looking for a heartwarming and lighthearted novel to cap off #BlackHistoryMonth, then you can't go wrong with this one! For fans who love books and the power reading gives to other book lovers, I will want to pick up this book! But it was also a great self-discovery novel. Maggie is portrayed as most twenty-somethings that are trying to find their way in the world. A lot of readers, including myself, will find themselves connected with this great story. Books of 2023: "The Stranded" by @sarahdanielsbooks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 WOW... just WOW! This was such an amazing ride. I never read a dystopian like this one! I was turned off from the genre after reading "The Hunger Games." But after reading this "The Stranded," if they turn out to be like this, I will be reading more of the genre. It was so well written and filled with everything that will have a reader on the edge of your seat: action, amazing world building, and great character development. All great aspects that make it one of my favorites of 2023. Books of 2023: The Trial by @laura_bates__ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25/5 **** I'm never surprised when Bates writes something compelling, and this YA novel is no different. This is once again a MUST read. Bates has brought young readers another powerful and insightful tale of how sexism and harassment are rampant in our society. You think this is your everyday survival story, and it is not. It's a different type of survival story, a tale that most girls and women unfortunately live with every day. The tense atmosphere and thrilling nature were just done brilliantly. The island used an allegory for society to be insightful and necessity. Readers definitely need to give this one a chance. Books of 2022: Foster by Claire Keegan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 **** I absolutely loved "Small Things Like These," and I was excited that "Foster" was getting a US release (even though I had the UK/Irish edition for a while 😅). Just like "Small Things...", here is a heartbreaking but thought-provoking story that is beautifully compelling in such a few pages. This was a tough week 😪. I had to deal with a lot of BS and frustration from my job's department heads but like I always try to achieve...I persisted. While some try to keep me down, I rise above and kicked ass with ingenuity and creativity. I conducted two in person #authortalks with the awesome @dub.dee.arr, launched another volume of the #LibraryZine with another group of awesome librarians.
