CLOSE ENOUGH TO BURN
PART 2 - SAY YOU DONT FEEL IT
warnings: heated argument, emotional avoidance, mutual heartbreak, yelling, vulnerability, and a kiss that feels like it might ruin everything
you almost get away with it.
another night of pretending you don’t see him. of slipping into the shadows and sipping something warm from a solo cup, face blank, heart caving in.
but jj finds you.
of course he does.
“seriously?” he bites out, storming up from the firepit. “you’re just gonna keep acting like i don’t exist?”
your stomach drops. “jj—”
“no. don’t ‘jj’ me right now.”
he stops in front of you, jaw clenched. “you’ve been ghosting me for days. and then you show up here, dressed like that, pretending you don’t see me?”
you cross your arms, defensive out of habit. “i didn’t come here for you.”
he laughs, sharp and bitter. “well, congrats. mission accomplished.”
the silence after that is ugly. hot and heavy and filled with all the words you’ve swallowed over the past week.
he steps closer.
“you know what’s funny?” his voice is quieter now, but meaner. sadder.
“i actually thought you liked me.”
you flinch.
“guess i was just another summer mistake, huh?”
he shakes his head. “should’ve known better.”
“stop,” you say, voice cracking.
“why? does the truth make you uncomfortable?” he snaps. “because that’s all i’ve been trying to give you.”
you snap.
“you don’t get to act like this is all on me!”
jj blinks.
“you come in like a hurricane,” you spit, heart racing. “and yeah, it was fun. until it wasn’t. until it started to mean something, and i didn’t know what to do with that!”
his voice drops. “so you ran.”
“yeah, jj,” you say, breath hitching. “i ran. because i’ve never had something that felt real before. and i didn’t know how to keep it without breaking it.”
he stares at you, something unspoken falling into place.
you look away.
“you wanna hate me? fine,” you whisper. “ but dont act like it was going to get easier”
he grabs your wrist, not rough, but enough to stop you from slipping away. again.
his voice is low.
“easy? maybe. but i wouldnt be happy.”
you finally meet his eyes.
“i was happy with you,” he says. “even when you were pushing me away. even when you couldn’t say how you felt. i still wanted you.”
you don’t mean to cry. you really don’t.
but it all comes out; the fear, the want, the truth, and you still tried to disappear.
and you don’t mean to kiss him either.
but your hands are in his hair, and his mouth is on yours, and it’s everything you were trying not to feel, wild and aching and home all at once.
when you pull away, everything’s shaking.
jj looks at you like he’s trying not to fall apart.
“don’t do that again,” he says.
“don’t shut me out like that.”
you nod, barely. “okay.”
and it’s not forgiveness. not yet.
but it’s a start.

hey love! i’m not sure if you’re actually taking requests right now, but i have a very specific one…
i was thinking about something with jj or rafe, paired with an avoidant!reader. maybe something where reader and one of the boys are kind of seeing each other — nothing official or too serious — but then reader starts catching real feelings and decides to pull away for no reason, just full-on dramatic avoidance, lol. and then that causes fights, angst, and a lot of yearning from their side, etc! 🫣🫣
thanks hun!!! my requests are always open! its 2 parts the moment i got this i was workinnnn , hope you like it!!
CLOSE ENOUGH TO BURN
PART 1 - DONT MAKE IT MEAN ANYTHING
warnings: emotional repression, mutual attraction, slow-burn angst, avoidant behavior, longing that’s eating them alive
it was never supposed to be serious.
you and jj weren’t anything. not officially. not really.
just flirting that went too far. lingering looks. stolen moments behind beach houses and in the back of his truck. inside jokes that no one else understood. the kind of connection that felt like a spark you could smother if you just ignored it long enough.
you told yourself it was casual. fun. a distraction, nothing more.
and jj? he played along staying loud, flirty, always quick with a joke.
but then he started doing more.
bringing your favorite snacks. sending dumb memes in the middle of the night. watching you like he was trying to memorize every emotion on your face.
and you…
you started caring.
that was the problem.
because once you cared, it was only a matter of time before it all fell apart.
so, like clockwork, you pulled back.
first, it was little things. taking longer to text back. skipping hangouts. giving him short answers and vague excuses.
but jj wasn’t stupid.
he texted you three times in a row the night before:
where’d you go?
did i do something?
just tell me if you’re done, okay?
you didn’t answer.
you couldn’t. because the truth felt pathetic.
you were scared. not of him, of you. of how deeply you felt. how badly you wanted this to be real. how you knew if you let it happen, if you let him all the way in, it would destroy you when it eventually ended.
because things like this didn’t last.
so now you’re standing at the edge of the party, alone in a crowd, pretending the flames aren’t burning holes in your resolve, pretending your heart isn’t clawing its way out of your chest every time you catch a glimpse of him.
he’s across the firepit, laughing with john b and pope, beer bottle dangling from his fingers, eyes flicking over the crowd like he’s not really listening.
like he’s looking for someone.
and when his gaze finally lands on you, like a damn spotlight, your stomach flips and your chest tightens and you do the most cowardly thing you’ve done all week.
you look away.
and pretend you don’t care.
even though every nerve in your body is screaming his name.

—TROUBLE IN THE TIDE
pairing: rafe cameron x reader
genre: slow burn romance, emotional healing, character-driven
warnings: mild injuries/violence, past trauma, mature language, toxic family, slow-burn romance
tone: soft tension, mutual growth, a love that calms the storm
synopsis: you never meant to get involved not with him, not with anything messy. but one late night changes everything. you find rafe cameron hurting, vulnerable in a way no one sees, and you help. it should’ve ended there. it doesn’t. what starts as a fragile connection turns into something deeper. he’s guarded, angry, still learning how to be soft but with you, he tries. and somewhere between quiet drives and honest moments, you realize this could be real. this isn’t a story about fixing someone. it’s about choosing each other even with the cracks. and maybe, finding peace where you never thought it existed.

DRIVING ME CRAZY
RAFE CAMERON X READER
there were little things rafe did that drove you insane. like, actually insane.
it wasn’t even the obvious stuff. not just the smirk he knew how to weaponize or the way his voice got all low when he whispered something in your ear. no, it was the dumb, simple stuff that shouldn’t have been as attractive as it was.
like when he stretched.
it always happened when he was barely paying attention—arms raised over his head, back arching slightly, and that shirt riding up just enough to show a sliver of his toned stomach. it was ridiculous. unfair, even. you’d be mid-conversation, and suddenly your brain short-circuited because rafe’s shirt decided to be too short for three seconds.
“you good?” he’d ask, catching you staring with a cocky grin because of course he noticed.
“yep. totally fine,” you’d lie, sipping your drink and refusing to make eye contact.
then there were parties. you didn’t even want to talk about parties. because every single time, without fail, rafe would lean down to hear you better when it got too loud.
and not in a normal way. no. he’d dip his head just enough so your lips were practically brushing his ear, one hand lazily resting on your hip like it was second nature.
“what’d you say, babe?” he’d murmur, voice low and close enough to make your skin tingle.
you’d have to swallow the sudden urge to kiss him right there, barely managing to repeat yourself without your voice cracking.
and don’t even get started on the way he held you by the waist.
it wasn’t even like he was trying to be romantic half the time. he’d pass by you in the kitchen and just… casually rest a hand on your waist as he moved around you. or he’d pull you close while standing in line somewhere, his fingers drumming softly against your hip like it was the most natural thing in the world.
you were convinced he had no idea what he was doing to you.
except, well… he totally did

UGH I FORGOT!
RAFE X FORGETFUL READER
“ugh, what was i saying?” you huffed rubbing your temples like that would somehow summon the thought back into your head, but nothing, blank, gone forever.
rafe, sitting next to you with his arm draped lazily over the back of the couch, just tilted his head. “you were talking about that—”
“no, don’t tell me” you cut him off, squeezing your eyes shut. “i wanna remember on my own.”
he smirked, clearly entertained by your struggle. “you sure? ‘cause you looked real close to losing your mind there for a second.”
“i am losing my mind!” you groaned, flopping back against the cushions. “this happens all the time. i swear my brain has like a two-minute memory limit.”
rafe chuckled, reaching over to gently poke your forehead. “nah, your brain’s just got a lot goin’ on. you probably got, like, fifty different thoughts runnin’ at once.”
you pouted. “yeah, well apparently none of them wanna help me right now.”
he just grinned leaning in a little. “you wanna know what you were saying now, or you still tryin’ to be stubborn?”
you sighed dramatically. “fine tell me.”
“you were talking about how you ran into sarah at the coffee shop and she almost knocked her drink over trying to hug you.”
your eyes lit up. “oh my god, yes! that was it!” you grabbed his arm, shaking it slightly. “see, this is why i keep you around.”
“oh, so that’s the only reason?” rafe teased raising an eyebrow.
“mm” you pretended to think. “well, that and you’re kinda cute, i guess.”
he scoffed, but you caught the way his ears went a little pink. “yeah, okay just don’t forget that part next time.”

OUR UNFINISHED ENDING - 7
JJ MAYBANK X FEM READER
previous
you left the outer banks, and rafe cameron to save yourself, walking away from his chaos and heartbreak. years later, life pulls you back to kildare, forcing you to face the past you tried to escape.
rafe is still there, changed yet hauntingly familiar. as your paths cross, old wounds resurface, blurring the line between moving on and falling back. some ghosts never stay buried.
four years was enough time for the sharp edges of old wounds to dull. the outer banks hadn’t changed, the salty air, the golden light that seemed to hit differently here.
you hadn’t planned to come back. but it was sarah and john b’s wedding, and no matter how far you’d gone or how much time had passed, sarah was still family.
“weird being back,” you said, your hand laced with jj’s as you strolled along the shoreline.
he grinned, his thumb brushing over your knuckles. “weird, yeah. but a good weird, right? this place isn’t the same without you.”
you rolled your eyes, but his words tugged a smile from you anyway. jj had that way about him, making even the heaviest moments feel lighter.
the chateau buzzed with energy when you arrived. kie balanced on a ladder, stringing fairy lights; pope was focused on the tables, arranging things with precision; and sarah, clipboard in hand, was pacing like a general leading an army.
“finally!” sarah’s face lit up when she spotted you. she pulled you into a hug so tight, it almost knocked the breath out of you
-
the day passed in a blur of laughter and wedding prep—the kind of chaos that felt warm, almost nostalgic. you wandered to the edge of the property as evening crept in, needing a moment of quiet.
that’s when you saw him.
rafe stood near the dock, one hand holding his suit jacket over his shoulder, a faint smile on his face as he talked with a woman you didn’t recognize. she had striking features dark hair, sharp eyes and a calm kind of confidence that drew attention.
you froze, not prepared for how different he looked. time had softened him somehow, the sharp arrogance of his younger self replaced with something quieter.
he turned then, as if he felt you watching. his smile faltered the second his eyes met yours. the woman beside him noticed too, her gaze flicking between you both, curious but polite.
“y/n,” rafe said, his voice careful. he took a step forward, leaving the woman behind. “can we talk?”
you hesitated, but jj gave your hand a gentle squeeze. “i’ll be inside,” he said softly, his eyes steady on yours, reassuring.
you nodded, releasing his hand as rafe approached.
“you look good,” rafe said awkwardly.
“thanks.” your reply was neutral, your expression giving little away. “you do too.”
he gave a small, faint smile, his gaze drifting briefly back to the woman, who had tactfully wandered closer to sarah. “a lot’s changed.”
“yeah,” you said, crossing your arms. “it has.”
a beat of silence stretched between you before he spoke again. “look, i don’t want to take too much of your time, but… i needed to say sorry. for everything. the way i acted, how i treated you. i was a mess back then, and that’s not an excuse, but i’ve had time to think. a lot of time. and… i’m sorry.”
his words caught you off guard. for years, you’d played this moment over in your mind, imagined what you might say. but now that it was here, you just sighed softly.
“thank you,” you said, your voice quiet. “it means something, hearing that from you.”
he nodded, glancing at the ground before meeting your eyes again. “i’m happy for you. jj’s a good guy.”
a small smile tugged at your lips. “he is.”
you shifted your weight, your gaze flicking toward the woman now laughing with sarah. “and her?”
his face softened. “she’s everything i didn’t know i needed. she’s… she’s amazing.”
“i’m glad.” and you meant it.
for the first time in years, the weight of everything with rafe felt lighter, like something you’d finally set down. it wasn’t unfinished business anymore; it was just the past.
“well,” he said, stepping back, “i should let you get back. but it was good seeing you, y/n.”
“you too,” you said, watching as he returned to the woman, sofia, you thought you’d heard someone call her.
a quiet kind of peace settled over you as you stood there.
jj found you a few minutes later, slipping an arm around your waist. “everything okay?”
“yeah,” you said, leaning into him. “everything’s good.”
and for the first time in a long time, you really believed it.

you left the outer banks, and rafe cameron to save yourself, walking away from his chaos and heartbreak. years later, life pulls you back to kildare, forcing you to face the past you tried to escape.
rafe is still there, changed yet hauntingly familiar. as your paths cross, old wounds resurface, blurring the line between moving on and falling back. some ghosts never stay buried.
it had been a couple weeks since the conversation you had with rafe. a couple weeks of thinking about everything he said. and you were done, you were not going to let him ruin all your progress.
you’d barely made it a few steps down the beach when you saw him. rafe stood near the water, staring at the ocean like it held answers only he could hear.
“rafe!” you called out, your voice firm.
he turned slowly, his expression guarded, bracing for whatever you were about to say. “figured you’d come around eventually.”.
you sighed, stopping a few feet away. “that’s not why i’m here.”
his jaw tightened. he ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. “you don’t get it, y/n. i just—”
“no, rafe” you cut him off, your voice sharp. “you don’t get it.” the words spilled out before you could stop them, years of frustration and hurt coming to the surface. “i’ve told you, over and over, whatever you think we have it’s done. i’ve moved on.”
his eyes narrowed, and for a moment, you thought he’d lash out, but instead, he stepped closer, his voice dropping to something desperate. “moved on? really? because the way you look at me doesn’t say that.”
you let out a dry, humorless laugh. “the way i look at you?” you shook your head, exhaustion creeping into your voice. “rafe, the only thing i feel when i see you is tired. i’m tired of you showing up, trying to pull me back every time i start to feel okay again, you are trying to use the same tactics you user beck then now, im not falling for it.”
“so, that’s it?” his voice rose slightly, the edge of anger breaking through. “you’re just done? just like that?”
“it wasn’t ‘just like that,’” you shot back, your words cutting. “it took years, rafe. years to untangle myself from you and your lies, your manipulation, the way you made me feel like i wasn’t enough. and now, im with people who remind me that i am enough. i’m not letting you take that away.”
his face flickered, hurt bleeding through for a moment before it hardened into something cold. “is this about him?” he asked. “jj?”
you froze for half a second. “what does jj have to do with this?”
“don’t act like you don’t know,” he snapped, stepping closer again, the tension between you electric. “he’s always there hovering around you, staring at me like he’s just waiting for something to happen. you think i don’t notice?”
you squared your shoulders, refusing to back down. “jj has nothing to do with this. he’s my friend, rafe. a real friend. he’s been there for me in ways you never were. this isn’t about him. it’s about you never respecting me.”
he scoffed, shaking his head like everything you itself was a joke. “all you’re doing is running off with the first guy who treats you like some kind of prize”
“stop” you snapped. “you don’t get to talk to me like that. not anymore. i don’t owe you anything not an explanation, not another chance, nothing.”
for a moment, he just stood there, chest rising and falling as he fought for something to say. but whatever it was, you didn’t give him the chance.
“it’s over, rafe” you said, quieter this time but no less firm. “you need to let me go.”
you turned and walked away, heart pounding in your chest.
“y/n,” he called after you, his voice breaking.
you stopped, but you didn’t turn around. “goodbye, rafe.”
you kept walking, the sound of the waves swallowing everything else. by the time you reached the chateau, jj was sitting on the porch, a beer in hand and that familiar, knowing look on his face.
“everything okay?” he asked softly.
you nodded, sitting down beside him and leaning your head against his shoulder. “not really.”
he didn’t say anything, just handed you his beer and let the quiet settle between you. for the first time in forever, it felt like the kind of quiet you loved the kind that meant peace.

RAFE CAMERON X FEM READER

you left the outer banks, and rafe cameron to save yourself, walking away from his chaos and heartbreak. years later, life pulls you back to kildare, forcing you to face the past you tried to escape.
rafe is still there, changed yet hauntingly familiar. as your paths cross, old wounds resurface, blurring the line between moving on and falling back. some ghosts never stay buried.
the next day dawned slower than usual, sunlight creeping through the window and coaxing you out of sleep. the familiar sounds of the distant crash of waves, the hum of cicadas filtered in, grounding you in the present.
you stretched lazily, the weight of the previous night lingering but feeling lighter somehow. jj’s jokes, pope’s teasing, and kie’s infectious laughter had done their job. even sarah’s quiet concern, proof that you had people who cared, people who saw you.
by the time you rolled out of bed, the pogues were already up and moving. jj was perched on the porch railing of the chateau, balancing precariously as he munched on a bag of chips.
“morning, sleeping beauty,” he called out with a smirk. “thought you were gonna miss the day.”
you rolled your eyes, grabbing a bottle of water from the cooler. “it’s barely noon chill.”
“barely noon” kie repeated, shaking her head as she emerged from the house with a towel slung over her shoulder. “we were starting to think rafe had you hiding out in the marsh or something.”
you froze for a split second before recovering, taking a long sip of water. “not funny.”
“c’mon, you gotta admit, the guy’s got a thing for showing up at the worst times, it’s almost impressive.”
“impressively annoying” pope added, walking up with a stack of papers and a cup of coffee.” still, i don’t appreciate making jokes out of the situation.” you say standing up for yourself.
kie sighs “sorry” pope feels the tension and speaks up “what’s the plan for today?”
“beach day” kie declared, tossing her towel into the back of the twinkie. “we could all use some vitamin d.”
“speak for yourself” jj said, holding out his arms. “i’m practically glowing.”
“yeah, with dorito dust” pope shot back, earning a laugh from you and kie.
as the group loaded into the van, you felt the familiar buzz of excitement. beach days were sacred a chance to leave everything behind, to let the salty air and endless horizon remind you that life was bigger than the problems that tried to pin you down.
but as the van rumbled toward the shore, your mind wandered. rafe’s words from last night replayed in your head, that mix of anger and something softer. you shook it off, determined not to let him steal another second of your peace.
by the time your feet hit the sand, the worries had faded, replaced by the warmth of the sun and the laughter of your friends. jj and kie were already bickering over a frisbee, pope and cleo was setting up a makeshift volleyball net, and sarah sat beside you, her sunglasses hiding her eyes but not her lingering concern.
“you sure you’re okay?” she asked quietly, leaning closer.
you glanced at her. “yeah. why?”
she shrugged. “just… last night. rafe. he looked like he wanted to say more.”
you hesitated, your gaze drifting toward the water. “he always wants to say more. it doesn’t mean anything.”
sarah nodded slowly, but she didn’t look convinced. “just be careful, okay? he’s not good at letting things go.”
“i know,” you said, forcing a small smile. “but i’m not the same girl he used to mess with, ok?”
that seemed to ease her worry, and soon she was dragged into the chaos of jj’s impromptu volleyball match. you stayed back, letting the sounds of their laughter and the crash of the waves wash over you.
for the first time in a while, you felt steady. rafe might have been a part of your past, but he didn’t own your future. not anymore.

OUR UNFINISHED ENDING - 4
RAFE CAMERON X FEM READER
previous Il next
you left the outer banks, and rafe cameron to save yourself, walking away from his chaos and heartbreak. years later, life pulls you back to kildare, forcing you to face the past you tried to escape.
rafe is still there, changed yet hauntingly familiar. as your paths cross, old wounds resurface, blurring the line between moving on and falling back. some ghosts never stay buried.
the walk back to the bonfire felt like a blur, but not because of rafe’s stare it was because of the adrenaline still buzzing through your veins. jj had his arm slung over your shoulders, cracking jokes like he always did, and for the most part, it worked. you felt lighter. you weren’t the same person rafe used to rattle. not anymore.
sarah kept glancing at you, her concern obvious, but she didn’t say anything.she didn’t need to. you caught her looking and gave her a small smile, and she seemed to relax a little.
the fire was glowing bright when you got back, the warmth wrapping around you like a shield. jj dropped onto the sand beside you quite dramaticly with his arms stretched out like he owned the place.
“that was a show,” he said grabbing a stick and poking at the fire. “your boy rafe sure knows how to kill a vibe.”
you rolled your eyes, grabbing a marshmallow. “he’s not my boy, but yeah, hes got a real gift for ruining parties.”
“rafe cameron: king of bad vibes,” pope chimed in, earning a laugh from kie.
you grinned, letting their teasing pull you fully back into the moment. sarah was still watching you, though, and eventually, she leaned in. “are you okay?” she asked softly.
you shrugged, sliding the marshmallow onto the stick. “i’m good. really.”
and you meant it. you weren’t about to let rafe undo all the progress you’d made. sarah studied you for a second longer, then nodded, satisfied.
“all right,” she said, leaning back. “but if he tries anything, you know we’ve got your back.”
“obviously,” jj added, smirking. “i mean, i’ve been dying for a reason to punch that guy.”
soon, the whole group was laughing, bickering over s’mores and stupid stories, and for a little while, it was like nothing else mattered. the pogues had always been good at that, reminding you who you were, pulling you back to yourself.
but later, when the crowd started thinning and the fire started to burned low, you needed some space. the laughter and music were a little bit much, so you wandered toward the edge of the marsh. the air was cooler here.
you were just starting to relax when a voice broke through the night.
“couldn’t stay away could you?”
you froze for half a second before turning. rafe stood a few feet away, hands in his pockets.
“rafe” you said sighing. “what are you doing here?”
“i could ask you the same thing” he said taking a step closer. “you’ve been avoiding me.”
you crossed your arms steadying yourself. “we don’t have anything to talk about.”
“don’t we?” his voice was sharp. “you think you can just walk away like none of it mattered?”
you shook your head, meeting his gaze. “it mattered, rafe. but it doesn’t anymore. i’m not the same person i was back then.”
his jaw tightened, and for a moment, he didn’t say anything. when he finally spoke, his voice was quieter. “i didn’t mean to hurt you. i never wanted to”
“i know” you interrupted gently. “but that doesn’t change what happened. you still hurt me time and time again and i always went back”
he stared at you, his expression unreadable. “you don’t even want to try?”
you smiled sadly. “i tried for a long time. but i’m done chasing something that’s only going to hurt me.”
before he could respond, a familiar voice called out behind you.
“y/n? everything okay?”
you turned to see jj, his hands balled into fists. his eyes flicked between you and rafe. his usual easygoing demeanor gone.
“everything’s fine” you said quickly, giving him a small smile.
jj didn’t look convinced, but he nodded, stepping closer. “you sure?”
“she said she’s fine,” rafe snapped.
jj raised an eyebrow, his posture relaxed but his energy unmistakably protective. “yea, ok.”
“it’s okay” you said softly. “let’s go.”
jj hesitated for a second, then nodded.
you didn’t look back as jj walked you toward your friends, his arm brushing against yours. the tension in your chest eased with every step.
“you good?” jj asked quietly, glancing at you.
you smiled, bumping his shoulder. “i’m good thanks for having my back.”
“always,” he said with a grin. “but, uh, next time, maybe give me a signal so i know whether to throw a punch or just stand there looking pretty.”
you laughed, the last bits of tension melting away. “noted.”

TASTES LIKE LOVE
RAFE CAMERON X READER
warnings: slightly suggestive at the end
sunlight streamed through the blinds. you stirred awake to the sound of shuffling in the kitchen, the faint smell of coffee pulling you out of sleep.
you walked into the kitchen still in one of rafe’s oversized shirts, and found him standing at the stove. barefoot hair a perfect mess and his shirt hanging loose, he looked far too good for someone trying and failing to flip pancakes.
“are you…cooking?” you asked, voice still raspy from sleep.
he glanced over his shoulder, spatula in hand, and smirked. “don’t start with me this is harder than it looks.”
your eyes darted to the counter seeing batter dripping over the edge of the bowl random pieces of fruit scattered like he gave up halfway. “you’re a disaster.”
“yeah well this disaster’s making you breakfast, so maybe be a little nicer” he shot back, turning back to the stove.
you walked up behind him, slipping your arms around his waist and pressing your body against his back. “it’s cute,” you murmured, your lips brushing his shoulder as you spoke.
he froze for a second before huffing out a soft laugh, his free hand coming to rest over yours. “you think everything i do is cute.”
“not everything” you teased, letting your fingers trail along his stomach just to hear his breath hitch.
“careful” he warned, voice lower.
you smiled against his shoulder pressing a kiss. “or what?”
his response came with the spatula clattering onto the counter, his hands spinning you around to press your back against the edge of the counter. his smirk was lazy but full of promise as he leaned in his lips ghosting over yours.
“or breakfast might have to wait.”

OUR UNFINISHED ENDING - 3
RAFE CAMERON X READER
previous || next
you left the outer banks, and rafe cameron to save yourself, walking away from his chaos and heartbreak. years later, life pulls you back to kildare, forcing you to face the past you tried to escape.
rafe is still there, changed yet hauntingly familiar. as your paths cross, old wounds resurface, blurring the line between moving on and falling back. some ghosts never stay buried.
rafe stopped in front of you, his presence towering, suffocating. his blue eyes pierced through you, and for a moment, the noise of the party around you seemed to fade into nothing.
“y/n,” he said, his voice low and steady, though there was an edge to it that made your stomach twist.
you swallowed hard, your fingers tightening around the cup in your hand. “rafe,” you replied, forcing yourself to meet his gaze, though everything in you screamed for you to look away.
his lips pressed into a thin line, his jaw clenching briefly before he spoke again. “didn’t think you’d come back,” he said, his tone carefully controlled.
“i didn’t plan to,” you admitted, trying to keep your voice steady. “but life doesn’t always go the way we want it to, does it?”
his eyes narrowed slightly, and he took a small step closer. too close. “so, what? you’re back, hanging out with sarah and her little pogues, pretending like you didn’t leave everything behind?”
“rafe what the fuck?” sarah nearly yells at him reminding you of her presence.
you hold her hand, grounding yourself. “what i left behind isn’t worth talking about,” you shot back, your voice sharper than you intended.
rafe flinched, just barely, but enough for you to catch it. his expression darkened, and for a moment, he looked like the rafe you remembered the one who could flip from calm to furious in an instant.
“careful,” he warned, his voice low, his eyes locked on yours.
“no, rafe,” you said, taking a step back and straightening your spine. “you don’t get to do this. not here, not now. not ever.”
before he could respond, jj appeared at your other side, sliding an arm casually over your shoulders. “hey, cameron,” jj said with a smirk, his tone dripping with mockery. “didn’t expect to see you slumming it with us tonight.”
rafe’s eyes flicked from sarah to jj, his jaw tightening. “stay out of this, pogue,” he spat.
“nah, see, that’s not how this works,” jj replied, his smirk growing. “you’re messing with one of us, and that makes it my business.”
the tension crackled like electricity, drawing the attention of a few nearby partygoers. sarah stepped in quickly, placing herself between jj and rafe.
“rafe, stop,” she said firmly, her voice laced with frustration. “just walk away.”
but rafe wasn’t looking at her. his eyes were looking through her; at you , the intensity of his stare making it impossible to breathe.
“you think you can just walk away from me?” he asked, his voice quiet but deadly. “like none of it ever happened?”
“it did happen,” you said, your voice trembling but firm. “and that’s exactly why I left.”
something shifted in his expression, a flicker of something you couldn’t quite place anger, hurt, regret. but before either of you could say another word, the sound of glass shattering nearby broke the moment, followed by drunken shouting.
“we should go,” sarah said quickly, grabbing your arm.
you hesitated, your eyes still locked on rafe’s, but jj was already guiding you away.
as sarah and the pogues led you toward the bonfire, you glanced back over your shoulder. rafe was still standing there, watching you.
and somehow, you knew this wasn’t over.
to be continued.

OUR UNFINISHED ENDING - 2
RAFE CAMERON X FEM READER
previous || next
you left the outer banks, and rafe cameron to save yourself, walking away from his chaos and heartbreak. years later, life pulls you back to kildare, forcing you to face the past you tried to escape.
rafe is still there, changed yet hauntingly familiar. as your paths cross, old wounds resurface, blurring the line between moving on and falling back. some ghosts never stay buried.
the obx felt smaller than you remembered, even the streets felt claustrophobic despite the open ocean nearby. maybe it was because you knew he was here. no matter how much time had passed, the thought of rafe cameron still weighed on you. but you couldn’t let it show. not tonight.
you adjusted the strap of your dress as you walked toward the sound of laughter and music echoing through the marsh. sarah had insisted you come, begging you to leave your temporary solitude to meet her friends at a party.
“you need to loosen up,” she’d said earlier, flashing that infectious smile of hers. “besides, jj’s hilarious when he’s drunk. trust me, you’ll love him.”
now surrounded by the pogues and their carefree energy, you almost felt like you could relax. jj had already claimed the role of entertainer, dramatically retelling a story that had kie and pope doubling over in laughter.
john b handed you a drink, his easygoing nature putting you at ease as sarah looped her arm through yours, guiding you deeper into the crowd.
the party was in full swing; a bonfire crackled in the distance, music thumped from speakers, and people dancing without a care in the world. for a moment, you let yourself get lost in it.
“you doing okay?” sarah asked, her voice soft.
you nodded forcing a smile. “yeah, it’s just… a lot. but i’m good.”
she gave your arm a reassuring squeeze before stepping away to grab drinks, leaving you alone by the edge of the crowd. you sipped your drink, scanning the sea of unfamiliar faces, trying not to think too hard about why you felt on edge.
and then you saw him.
he was leaning against a tree at the edge of the party, his tall frame half-hidden in the shadows. even from a distance, he was unmistakable; the sharp angles of his face and the confident tilt of his head.
you froze, your heart hammering in your chest. he hadn’t seen you yet, but it was only a matter of time.
as if sensing your gaze, his head turned. your eyes locked, and the air seemed to leave your lungs.
rafe’s expression was unreadable, his piercing blue eyes fixed on you making you freeze almost instantly. he didn’t move, but the weight of his stare was enough to make your chest feel tight.
sarah seemed to reappear at your side, her laughter fading as she followed your gaze. “oh, no,” she muttered, her grip tightening on your arm. “don’t let him ruin this for you. he’s not worth it.”
but you couldn’t tear your eyes away from him, and as he pushed off the tree and started walking toward you, the world seemed to slow to a stop around you.
“y/n,” sarah said urgently, tugging at your arm. “come on. let’s go.”
but you couldn’t move.
the distance between you and rafe grew smaller with every step, the tension thick enough to choke on. the look in his eyes was intense, unreadable, and as he stopped just a few feet away, you realized you had no idea what he was about to say or what you were going to do.
to be continued.

RAFE CAMERON X OPPOSITE READER
you’ve always been his polar opposite; quiet, soft spoken, the type to avoid conflict like it’s your full time job. you have no idea how you’ve stayed friends this long, but somehow it works.
he’s like your own personal chaos generator, pulling you into adventures you’d never go to on your own. like tonight, when he shows up at your door unannounced, grinning like he’s up to no good (per usual).
“let’s go,” he says, leaning casually against your doorframe.
you blink at him clutching the blanket you were very much planning to stay under all night. “go where?”
“to watch the meteor shower,” he replies like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
you hesitate, glancing down at your pajama pants. “rafe, it’s late and cold”
he rolls his eyes but steps inside, completely ignoring the fact that you haven’t technically invited him in. “it’s not that cold,” he argues, grabbing a hoodie off the back of your couch and tossing it at you. “come on, you’ll regret it if you don’t.”
you mumble something about not regretting staying warm, but he’s already dragging you out the door.
you end up at some quiet spot by the water, the two of you sitting in the bed of his truck. he’s talking a mile a minute, pointing out random constellations and telling you random stories. one specifically about how his dad once tried to convince him shooting stars were alien spaceships.
you just nod and smile, your hands tucked into the sleeves of his hoodie, which is way too big for you. it smells like him, cologne and bonfires and you’re trying really hard not to think about it too much.
at some point, he notices how quiet you’ve gotten. “you okay?” he asks, turning to look at you.
you nod quickly, your cheeks heating up under his gaze. “yeah, just tired.”
he doesn’t buy it, but he doesn’t press either. instead, he reaches over and tugs the hood up over your head. “there,” he says softly, his voice quieter than usual. “that should fix one problem.”
you laugh. “you’re so dumb.”
“yeah, but you love it,” he teases, bumping his shoulder against yours.
you don’t say anything, but your heart’s doing that stupid fluttery thing it always does when he’s being sweet. and when a shooting star finally streaks across the sky, you can’t help but glance over at him instead of the sky, thinking that maybe you don’t need to make a wish after all.
a/n - i’m locking in trust

KENTO NANAMI X AIRHEAD READER
it’s late afternoon, and the sun is streaming through the windows of the little apartment you share with nanami. he’s sitting at the dining table, surrounded by neatly stacked papers and his laptop. he’s working, focused as ever, but every so often, his gaze flickers toward you.
you’re sprawled out on the living room rug, surrounded by an explosion of pink. there are rhinestones, craft glue, and what appears to be a half finished bedazzled picture frame.
“what exactly are you doing?” he asks finally, his tone as calm and measured as always.
“i’m making something,” you say, not looking up from your masterpiece. you stick a rhinestone onto the frame with extreme concentration, your tongue poking out slightly.
he hums in acknowledgment, his lips curving into a small smile despite himself. “i can see that. but what are you making?”
you finally glance up, holding up the frame for him to see. it’s gaudy, glittery, and absolutely covered in rhinestones. in the middle of it is a photo of the two of you, one he didn’t even realize you’d printed.
“tadaaa!” you say proudly. “it’s for your desk! isn’t it cute?”
nanami stares at the frame, blinking once, twice. then he sets his pen down, leans back in his chair, and sighs softly.
“it’s… very you,” he says, which makes you giggle.
“right? now your desk won’t look so boring and corporate. it needs a little sparkle, you know?”
he doesn’t tell you that his coworkers are probably going to give him hell for it, nor does he mention that it doesn’t exactly match his clean, minimalist aesthetic. instead, he says, “thank you. i’ll put it on my desk tomorrow.”
you beam at him, and it’s the kind of smile that makes his chest feel warm.
“you’re the best kento,” you say, setting the frame down and crawling over to sit beside him at the table.
“you have glitter on your face,” he murmurs, reaching out to brush a stray fleck off your cheek.
“it’s everywhere.” you laugh, leaning into his touch. “you don’t mind, do you?”
“not at all,” he says softly, his fingers lingering for just a moment before pulling away.
you rest your chin on your hand, watching him with a dreamy smile. “you’re so handsome when you’re working, you know that?”
he clears his throat, a faint blush creeping up his neck. “thank you.”
“you’re welcome,” you say brightly, leaning over to kiss his cheek before hopping up again. “okay, back to crafting! let me know if you want me to bedazzle anything else!”
he watches you go, shaking his head with the smallest of smiles. no matter how many times he tells himself he’s the serious one, the responsible one, you always manage to remind him that a little sparkle literal or not isn’t so bad after all.

RAFE X CLUMSY READER
a/n: you guys are being FED TONIGHT RAHHHH
rafe didn’t even flinch when he heard the crash from the kitchen. he just sighed, getting off the couch, and made his way toward the sound.
she was standing in the middle of the mess, wide-eyed and holding a broom like she had no idea what to do with it. broken glass glittered on the tile floor around her.
“before you say anything,” she started, pointing at him, “it was already slippery in here.”
“you spilled something didn’t you?” he asked crossing his arms.
“…maybe,” she mumbled, looking down at the floor like it might save her. “but honestly, who puts a glass pitcher on the edge of the counter? that feels like a trap.”
“you put it there,” he deadpanned, but there was no trace of heat in his voice.
she gave him a sheepish smile, shrugging. “okay, but still.”
he shook his head, grabbing the broom from her hands and starting to sweep. “you’re lucky i love you, you know that?”
“you say that like you wouldn’t be totally bored without me,” she teased, hopping up on the counter to stay out of the way. except, in true her fashion, she bumped her elbow on the cabinet and nearly knocked over yet another another glass.
“jesus christ,” rafe muttered, catching it before it could fall. “you’re a walking disaster.”
she grinned, swinging her feet. “yeah, but i’m your disaster.”
he rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t help but let the small smile tag at his lips. “yeah, yeah. just stay up there and don’t break anything else, okay?”
“no promises,” she chirped, leaning over to rest her chin in her hands as she watched him clean up her mess.
and rafe? he couldn’t even be mad. disaster or not, she was his favorite part every day.
