SpyDart Stories 2: The First Date

As always, feedback is very much appreciated! Oh yeah I don’t drink myself so idk what wine would go best with the steaks they’re getting and just guessed.

Summary: Sova and Cypher go on their first date POV: Third Person Word Count: 589 Time Skips/Scene Changes: 2 Paragraphs: 14 Content warnings: Fluff (if you would like me to add any, reply or send a submission)

“Would you like to go out for dinner sometime?” His words reverbrated around Cypher’s mind, and Cypher was about to go mad with anxiety as the time of the date slowly approached. Any minute now, Sova was going to knock on the door to pick him up, and Cypher was just now realizing that with all his anxiety, he didn’t nicen up for the date -- which he promptly fixed by throwing on a nicer version of his outfit, which ends up looking like a suit.

As he was putting his mask back on after checking to see that he looked fine (he was gonna be eating, so he had to look ok under the mask), there was a sharp knock on the door. Cypher rushed to the door to open it, and Sova was standing right outside - looking splendid, but a bit stiff, in a tux. He was holding flowers and smiled awkwardly at Cypher. “Hello there! Are you ready for dinner?” Sova said, as smoothly as he could. “Of course!”

Timeskip past the drive to the restaurant (~45 minutes)

When they arrived at the restaurant, it was very nice. Almost too nice - it looked a bit fake, especially since it was virtually empty. The waiter took them to a table in the corner, where Cypher could take off his mask. “Could I get you two anything to drink?” asked the waiter. “Yes, a bottle of red wine. Your finest.” Sova raised his eyebrows at this. Cypher was here to play. And to get drunk. “Great, let me grab that for you while you look at the menu.”

When the wine came, Cypher took off his mask, slowly. It was Sova’s first time seeing Cypher without his mask on, and he was a bit surprised - he was expecting Cypher to have burns or bad scars that make him want to wear a mask, but his face had smooth skin with only a couple scars. Sova was also used to Cypher being bald, so his rich, deep curls were truly a shock. Safe to say, Sova was much more in love with Cypher now.

Sova caught himself staring, and then noticed that the waiter was returning. “All right then, what would you like to eat today?” he asked. Sova ordered a filet mignon and Cypher, after a few minutes of deliberation, got a Roquefort Steak.

When their food arrived, Cypher began to slowly eat, and Sova couldn’t help but watch. Cypher would cut off a small bite, then slowly take it up to his mouth and chew it. Nothing weird except the size of the bite, so Sova decided to also start eating in order to not make Cypher feel so weird. “How’s your steak?” Sova asked, not really expecting an answer - Cypher was being particularly quiet. To his surprise, Cypher did respond. “It’s very good - quite tender. How’s yours?” “It’s a bit more cooked than I like it, but it’s overall very good.” This conversation was getting awkward - there wasn’t anything to talk about, so they mostly just ate in silence, enjoying each other’s company. Cypher liked it better that way, anyway.

After dinner, and while waiting for their car (aka Sage driving a limo because she’s that supportive), Sova noticed that Cypher still had his mask off - and wanted to be opportunistic, so he leaned down and kissed Cypher, who kissed back. After a couple seconds of this kiss, Sage was pulling up and Cypher put the mask back on.

SpyDart Stories 1: Cypher Meets Sova

Ok so I haven’t written fanfiction very much so I would love feedback! Submit it as a reply here, or an ask if you have it. My writing feels so academic to me but just let me know what you think.

Summary: It’s Sova’s first day at the Protocol, and he meets everyone -- including Cypher. POV: Third Person Word Count: 450 Time Skips/Scene Changes: 1 Paragraphs: 14 Content warnings: None (if you would like me to add any, reply or send an ask)

“Ok then, here we are. Welcome to the Protocol.” She stepped aside, showing me a large complex. “Thanks!” Sova replied, amazed at how they were able to stay so secretive with this enormous campus. As he stepped off the plane, he saw 4 people, lined up at the front door.

On the left there was a burly man, looking to be in his 60s, in some military gear and a Seargent’s hat. He shook Sova’s hand, saying, in a distinctly American voice “Hi. I’m Brimstone. The leader.” Next to Brimstone was... a weird person? All in blue and black, with a hood and underneath that hood were 3 blue slits. In a gravelly voice, he introduces himself as Omen. Beside Omen was a young woman in a poofy yellow jacket and weird holographic wristbands, who looked Sova up and down and said, quickly, “Killjoy”, before messing with one of her bracelets again. Next to Killjoy was the person that was definitely the weirdest of the group. Dressed in a strange-looking shirt and pants with an eye on it, and having 0 skin visible - what wasn’t covered by his outfit had black and brown... coverings on it. His eyes were bright turquoise but mostly covered by his hat. Looking down, he said, “Hi there. I’m Cypher.” In a deep, arabic accent.

Someone touched Sova’s shoulder from behind him. He jumped - but it was just the lady that had been in the plane with him. “Sorry to scare you. I’m Viper.”

Timeskip to Dinner (~3 hours)

At dinner, everyone gathered at one table in the large, almost too large, cafeteria. Sova was a few minutes late, then he just grabbed the food he wanted from the bar and sat with the other 5. They all had heaps of food and drink on their trays - except Cypher, who had packaged foods neatly on his tray and was not touching them. Seeing Sova staring, Viper stated, “He doesn’t take his mask off in public, so we package his food and he eats in his room later.” Sova nodded understanding and sat down across from Cypher.

“How are you accustoming to the campus?” asked the Moroccan, to which Sova shrugged. “I don’t know... it’s bigger than the last place, that’s for sure, but it’s a bit of a labyrinth,” Sova replied. “Yeah, I had a bit of a trouble with finding my way at first. Don’t worry, it gets easier to navigate once you’ve been here for about a week.” Cypher was looking down at his food and fidgeting with his fingers. “There are plenty of people here to help me find me way too,” Sova smiled.

“Y-yes, yes there are.”

SpyDart Headcanons 2: Around the Protocol

Yes I named Sova x Cypher SpyDart. Deal with it.

Cypher (being Cypher) spends most of his time in his room, alone, working on whatever gadget he’s creating

Sova spends a lot of his time with Cypher in Cypher’s room because he doesn’t want Cypher to get lonely

They usually have a movie or show going while Cypher is tinkering and Sova is making light conversation, with takeout boxes and half-eaten food all over the room

When they’re not in Cypher’s room, they’re probably either in a debriefing or the food court, still making light conversation

They aren’t really fans of PDA and don’t usually go farther than holding hands in public

They do like to go and make chitchat with other couples inside the Protocol, except the people they don’t like (Killjoy, Brimstone mainly -- see the Rivals post from yesterday)

In general, they’re actually pretty quiet together - the light conversation is more of a sentence or two a minute. Sova just likes watching Cypher work, and Cypher likes knowing that Sova is watching him

No one in the protocol sees them much while they’re boyfriends, since no one can get them out of Cypher’s room very often

The only visitor they get is Sage, who brings them food because she worries about their health, the other members of the Protocol know from experience to stay away (Jett had an... unfortunate run-in involving a tripwire that triggered a shock dart to come out of the wall)

Overall they seem to be much happier together, they prefer spending time together to being apart by a lot - even Cypher, who isn’t particularly visibly happy usually, is noticeably horrible behavior-wise without Sova nearby

This probably stems from Cypher’s attachment issues and Sova just being Sova

Cypher with the Protocol Headcanons: Rivalries

I did one with friends, and now I’m doing one with rivalries. It won’t feature all the agents, but will feature the ones that I feel have a more... rocky relationship with Cypher.

Tier 1: Minor Rivalries

Breach:

Breach and Cypher are rivals, but in a more... fun way

They enjoy each other’s presence but are always trying to best each other

They prank and mess with each other, but also know each other’s limits in order to not cross them when messing with each other.

Brimstone:

Brimstone, the more responsible, father figure of the Protocol, is too “unfun” for Cypher

Brimstone is usually preventing Cypher from doing what he wants in life, always saying that he’s too irresponsible.

Brimstone is always trying to keep Cypher from pranking the rest of the Protocol, to no avail

Killjoy:

Killjoy has the worst relationship with Cypher of any agent of the Protocol.

Cypher just.. doesn’t trust her at all

They generally avoid each other unless they’re doing Mission Prep, in which they have to work with each other

Sage:

Sage and Cypher aren’t rivals, so to speak

They just don’t have a great relationship, mainly due to Sage’s reluctance to revive Nora

Cypher with the Protocol HCs: Cypher’s Birthday

It’s not actually Cypher’s birthday, but I thought this would be a fun post to make!

Presents:

Most people don’t actually know what to get Cypher for his birthday, but he is usually nice about whatever you get him, even if he doesn’t want it

He HATES getting already-built electronics, but doesn’t mind getting bits and pieces and scraps, he likes tinkering with them to create new things

His favorite birthday gift he’s gotten since he joined the protocol was a joint present, which was all the pieces for a really nice PC. He doesn’t use the PC but he likes the accomplishment of it

Usually gets him food: Astra (snacks), Phoenix (alcohol), Jett (baked goods), Yoru (alcohol)

Usually gets him assorted tech scraps: Breach, Killjoy, Raze, Brimstone

Usually gets him clothing: Sage (necessities), Omen (hand-knit clothing), Viper (works on his gear in the lab)

Usually gets him something else: Reyna (decorative trinkets), Skye (animal trinkets)

Party:

Cypher acts like he doesn’t like making a big fuss of the birthday but everyone knows that he cares a lot

They always make a grand surprise party. Cypher tries to figure out where it is with his cameras but Killjoy always finds them all beforehand. Killjoy also has an alarmbot to make sure he doesn’t come close.

They always have an extravagant cake. Jett, Brimstone, Sage, Killjoy, Skye, and Omen each make a layer with their own touch, and the rest of the agents decorate, also with their own touch.

Cypher’s party is the biggest in the Protocol just out of habit, they try to best what they did before.

His first big birthday party was the one right after Nora died, when they were trying to cheer him up.

Other Activities:

Cypher likes to go out drinking, but not until the festivities are over. Unlike most times, he prefers to go alone for a few hours, thinking about his family.

After a few hours alone, the Protocol members show up one at a time to talk and party

His birthday is really the only day where everyone sees him without the mask, he takes it off for the party

The Early Morning:

In the early morning, Cypher always is sad. He usually flies himself to Bind to mourn and celebrate with his family.

He visits a couple nearby towns and gives them money and food to celebrate his birthday

He sometimes goes alone, sometimes with other agents - usually Reyna, Jett, Raze, or Sage

When they leave, they blow up Kingdom stuff around Bind. Kingdom knows that the day is coming but Cypher loves planning this event and is aware of every added security

About that one Cypher quote...

So first, throwing a few things out here Cypher has this line “I am Prometheus, and you are just a god” And his player card is called “Redeemer’s folly”, he is dramatically standing in the light staring at it. Okay so first a few things about Prometheus and why this one line of his is so important. Prometheus was a titan who instead of fighting against the Greek Gods decided to join them and fight by their side. Then, he was tasked with creating humans, he shaped them to resemble the Gods. However, the humans lived a rather ‘animalistic’ life. They were scared of the dark, lived in caves, ate their meat raw, depended completely on the gods to survive since they lacked characteristic such as 'sharp claws and teeth’. Prometheus took pity on them, so decided to trick the gods multiple times in an attempt to help the people.

1. When the gods demanded sacrifice from the humans, Prometheus decided to fuck over Zeus by hiding the yummy parts of the sacrifice under disgusting looking stuff, guts if i remember right. And then he hid the bones and fat under and other useless stuff under some appealing looking stuff. So when it came to Zeus choosing which one of the two he would eat, he chose the appealing looking but in reality disgusting stuff (bones and fat), while the humans got to eat the yummy stuff. At least, this is the version I know. Might be wrong, but it doesn’t matter that much now.

2. This one is more important and I am sure you know of the tale already. Prometheus stole fire from the gods and took it from the Olympus to the humans. With fire on their hands the humans started building civilizations, creating various devices, they were no longer scared of the dark nor did they depends much from the gods any longer. Now Zeus, this not being the first time Prometheus has made him incredibly mad by tricking and disobeying him has decided to punish the titan by shackling him to the side of a mountain and send his eagle out to tear out then eat Prometheus’ liver every single day for all eternity. And that is exactly what happened. Even if Zeus offered him freedom, Prometheus refused. (After a few years of torment he got saved by Herakles but that doesn’t matter now.) Now, Prometheus among the humans is celebrated as “The titan of fire” or “Champion of humankind”. Prometheus is a selfless hero, who sacrificed himself (although unwillingly) for his people. And in a way, Cypher has done the exact same thing. If we look at Bind, which is on Morocco, we can see the cranes and various other devices destroying the building, the culture. The map is full of posters, either pro-kingdom propaganda or anti-kingdom stuff. Calling them liars and shit. Judging by the voice lines (Viper, Cypher) Kingdom wasn’t doing much to help the people, nor did they care for what they wanted. All they are there for is the Radianite, exploiting the people for it like the Gods have exploited humans, living off of their sacrifices. See the connection?

Side note: Multiple works (poems), such as Goethe’s “Prometheus” state that Gods are useless and while they try to make it look like the people depends from them, it is the other way around. 'The Gods wouldn’t be anywhere without the humans’ sacrifices; they need them for survival.’ And while the Gods sit on their asses not giving a shit, it is Prometheus who actually cares for the humans, his people. He is the one seen as a hero, not the Gods.

Let’s look at his card for a bit, Redeemer’s Folly. REDEEMER, as someone (in this case) trying to liberate a group of people, which in this case is most likely the people of Bind/Morocco. FOLLY, which is more interesting because Cypher is many things but a fool is not one of them. Now, what I think this means is that he fucked up. He fucked up bad, as he tried to liberate his people just like Prometheus has done with humans, he was also doomed to eternal torment (eternal for him, it lasts until he dies after all). While Prometheus had to live with the pain of his liver getting torn out every single day, Cypher, someone who values family so deeply, has to live with the pain of his family dying, torn away from him (and he most likely blames himself for it.) Side note: Skye has a voice line: “Cypher, I knew you were a legend from the start…!” Which leads me to believe that Cypher has made himself quite a name being a thorn in Kingdom’s side. Another reason he is hiding his identity, to protect his remaining (?) family (“I must survive to protect my family. I can’t lose them. I can’t feel that pain again.”) Okay, back to the card but this time, the visuals.

1. First the arch. Judging by the massive size of those things I am certain that he is not standing under it, but either inside the building or outside, looking straight into the light that is shining on him (I’ll get back to the light later.) Now, in Islam it is forbidden to picture holy figures in architecture so they express their holiness by structuring geometric patterns (I know this thanks to @itisi-james ) So keep this in mind, Cypher standing dramatically, staring into the light coming from architecture that is used to honor holy figures. (Also that condemn in Cypher’s voice when he says “(…) And you are just a god” makes it clear that he is an atheist.)

2. The light. Now, it can mean his hope, or looking forward to the light to shine down on them again. Now I think it is time I mention that the name 'Nora’ in latin means “Honor”, however the Arabic meaning is more important us this time. “Noor” or “Nura” mean FIRE, LIGHT or warmth. Now think about Prometheus sacrificing everything to give fire for the humans, or the light shining down on him on the card. Not to be cheesy but it could also mean Nora being the light in his darkness, or even his motivation to carry on and keep on fighting, as the light shines down on him on the card… I am not saying he is a good man, I have some serious doubts about that (his quotes about ‘interrogation’ and such…), but he is one interesting and complex character and I am all here for it. There is so so much to analyse about him it’s crazy, I really enjoy it. Also, my apologies but I am too lazy to write a conclusion but I hope this was useful, or at least interesting x) Ah also, “Aamir” means “Prince” but idk what to do with this information. Might not be important at all. Feel free to correct me on anything if I am wrong! Or even expand on this :)

Note: I only proofread briefly because I spent a long time working on it and didn’t want to see any more of this post. That’s also why they kinda get shorter as we go. I might come back tomorrow and add some things, who knows.

Cypher with the Protocol HCs: Friends

Astra:

No voice lines I could find

Cypher does not know Astra very well, and they do not spend very much time together without another agent that knows both of them

When they are alone, Cypher mostly just finds Astra annoying

Breach:

Breach! Breach! I took a servo from your arms for my tripwire. Don’t be angry. Breach…

Breach and Cypher love making trouble together

Their conflicting personalities and abilities have given them great synergy

At the same time his height, bulkiness, and general scariness terrifies Cypher and he is always careful to not pass any boundaries around Breach, but he will mess with Breach’s things

Their favorite things to do together are mess with other agents - using tripwires and flashes and concusses to confuse everyone

Brimstone:

Let me see if I can hack into that Brimstone's bracer. If he's anything like our Brimstone, he won't know how to fix it, haha.

Brimstone is considered a party pooper by Cypher

While Cypher enjoys being with Brimstone, Brimstone is often keeping Cypher from acting out his ideas.

Brimstone and Cypher spend most their time together training

Cypher is constantly pranking Brimstone by messing with his electronics

Jett:

Fly my wind assassin, do what you do best.

Jett annoys Cypher, but he also loves her sense of humor

The main thing they do together is play board games: Cypher loves chess to see all the angles, but Jett prefers classics like Clue because she thinks they’re more fun and doesn’t want to do strategy

Neither of them really likes card games so they don’t usually play those

They have a really strong bond, one of the strongest within the Protocol, and that can be seen by their synergy on missions

Killjoy:

Little engineer, I borrowed one of your transmitters for my camera. I'll pay you back, probably.

Cypher doesn’t particularly like Killjoy, and the feeling is absolutely mutual

They do sometimes geek out together over scientific discoveries

The activity they do most together is hacking people as mission prep but Cypher hates it because he’s the hacker and she’s constantly trying to correct him when she doesn’t know what she’s doing

Omen:

No voice lines from Cypher to Omen

Cypher doesn’t really like Omen, and Omen is relatively indifferent to Cypher

They don’t spend time together, though Cypher is intrigued about what exactly Omen is

Phoenix:

Phoenix, oh, you are really aggressive, I’m impressed and a little scared.

Cypher really likes messing with Phoenix

Phoenix is so gullible that Cypher can convince him to do anything

Cypher is also smart enough to make it look like he had nothing to do with it

Phoenix usually knows Cypher is messing with him but he finds it funny to go along with whatever Cypher says and keeps doing it

Raze:

Izze, don’t tinker with my gadgets. I don’t need exploding cameras again. The cleanup was so messy.

Cypher really enjoys being with Raze, even if she destroys his stuff!

She has this really positive energy that he loves being around and he can’t help but smile when he’s with her

He also appreciates her music taste and whenever they get drunk together they end up blasting music in one of their rooms for hours

She also makes great cocktails and is a great person to talk to

Reyna:

Reyna, jeez! Leave some for the rest of us... Or don't. Haha, I-I am sorry.

Similarly to Breach, Reyna terrifies Cypher

At the same time they’re really playful together!

Cypher has spent a lot of time observing her in an attempt to better understand her behaviors and the root of her anger but hasn’t been able to figure it out. Reyna knows he’s been doing this but doesn’t care since he’s not doing it in a way that threatens her.

When Raze and Cypher go drinking, they often take Reyna because she’s a riot when drunk - she usually ends up throwing around blinds and talking in fluent Spanish and the other two love being with her when this happens

Reyna and Cypher talk. A lot. They basically vent all their problems to each other and it feels like they new each other for years before either joined the Protocol.

Together, they give off the vibe of exes who are still great friends

Sage:

So, Sage, you can bring people back from the dead? Anyone? No constraints? Interesting. 

Cypher and Sage have a, well, complicated relationship.

Cypher is very intrigued as to her powers, but she does not want anything to do with reviving Nora

Due to this, they do not have a friendship, just a purely professional relationship.

Skye:

No voicelines from Cypher to Skye

Cypher thinks Skye is... well, a bit weird

They play card games sometimes, but they have a strange on-and-off friendship

No one knows why they have this strange friendship, but they do

Sova:

Ah, Sova, my friend, that was amazing! 

Cypher likes Sova.

He enjoys going out for drinks with Sova, but they never go drinking with Raze or Reyna

Kinda like with Jett, Sova has a love for tabletop games, but he plays card games

Cypher doesn’t usually play card games due to his casino past, but if Sova gets him drunk enough he’ll play poker

They also play Pool and watch other sports when they’re drunk together

Sova is also the kind of person that you can just share anything to, and they do that all the time

One of the other things they do a lot is go to animal rescue centers and meet all the animals, Sova loves to see how all the animals love Cypher and Cypher just likes meeting the animals

Viper:

Viper, who's birthday is March 20th? I found it when, uh...Haha, okay, okay, I have everyone's passwords.

Cypher loves pranking Viper because she’s so uptight and angry all the time

But at the same time, he also helps her a lot - he’s the one that designed several of her items, so they have a good relationship

He knows a lot of her secrets but would never share them because he secretly likes her a lot

She also secretly likes him a lot and is never really angry with him, it’s more of a show for other agents

When there’s nobody around they often go drinking or out to have fun together

Yoru:

No voicelines from Cypher to Yoru

Cypher hates Yoru, he’s too arrogant and selfish.

Cypher does his best to not be alone in a room with Yoru because Yoru will start a conversation and Cypher can’t stand talking to Yoru

Cypher has said multiple times that he tries to be friends but Yoru never asks about Cypher so nothing can happen in that friendship.

SoCypher Headcanons 1: Dates

This is my favorite ship so here we go!

They spend most of their time together cuddling, because it’s what Sova loves to do and Cypher enjoys it enough to be doing it a lot

Cypher’s favorite thing to do with Sova is play video games, but they don’t do it often as they can’t agree on what games to play

Sova prefers shooter games but Cypher prefers cartoony fight games

Most of their dates are just them going to the arcade because they love hanging out and choosing their own games to play. Sometimes they have to leave early because Cypher hacks the games in order to win more tickets

When they go to a restaurant for a date, they always go somewhere where Cypher doesn’t have to show his face in full view of everyone, so they go to a lot of fast food for the booths

Sova’s favorite restaurants are italian but he’s very picky about them, while Cypher’s favorite restaurants are American barbecue

They usually “reserve” the cafeteria at the Protocol headquarters by placing trapwires all over so no one can get in, as well as shock dart booby traps

Jett is usually the one to “discover” that they are on a date and has triggered more trapwires than anything

In all the food-related dates, they both do much more eating than talking, but they still get some meaningful conversation done

Nora and Cypher (HCs)

A request already! Someone wanted Nora x Cypher, but since there is so little about Nora it's mostly speculation.

• Nora is the person Cypher trusts more than anyone else in the world. He even tells her classified information from his missions/espionage on various targets.

• Nora is the only person that has ever made Cypher regret going into his line of work. At the same time, his casino "work" before is not something he would like to be doing with Nora as his wife either.

• While Cypher and Nora did not have any kids, he adopted Nora's kids from her previous marriage - 3 of them.

• Cypher is not religious -- he says the pain of his work does not let him -- but Nora and the children were devout Muslims.

• Cypher always had a secret belief that Nora was a spy from within the Protocol - probably hired by Brimstone - to make sure that he was okay at home

• Despite this suspicion, Cypher still loved her and would have done anything for her

• This suspicion came mainly from the fact that "Nora" is similar to the Arabic name Noor, which means "fire", giving him the suspicion that she was a pyrotechnic radianite • Until he started being more open with relationships after a few years in the Protocol, Nora was the only person who knew that Cypher is bisexual

• The majority of Cypher's jokes are recycled from Nora

• Nora died shortly before Sage joined the Protocol, and once Cypher heard of her abilities, he pushed strongly for her to join the Protocol

• One of the reasons Cypher is so morbid is because with Nora's death he lost a lot of the kindness he had gained over his relationship with her and became much darker

• Nora was killed by a radianite blast in a town very near Bind. Cypher was in the group that planted the bomb, and Brimstone is the one that told him that she was safe from the blast, which is why he holds a grudge against Brimstone.

• Killjoy was the only agent not invited to Nora's funeral. Nora always was suspicious of her which is where Cypher gained his increasing skepticism of her.

• Cypher did not even attend the funeral himself - it was too painful. He instead watched it from a spycam placed in a tree next to her grave. Cypher very much regrets this.

• While she has a grave, her body is not buried there - she was buried next to their old house, and, as is Muslim tradition, is facing towards Mecca.

• Seeing as his family was dead, Cypher used her funeral to adopt the Protocol agents as his new "family" and had the traditional feast for the dead.
