speaking from a ‘byler is canon’ point of view i think the whole reason for them leaving it ambiguous to the point where yes there’s lots of byler proof but not the obvious near kiss moments that other love triangles inclue is that

they want the shock value

while there are lots of fans who do think mike and will are gonna end up together the majority of the general audience may not fully understand that or see it

what they’ll see is a show with a straight main couple that has kinda been dismantled as the shows gone on

like byler is there the buildup is there

but from a general audience perspective they might just see a main ship thats been going downhill and are left wondering why? how are they gonna fix it? and they know somethings up but they may not realise the goal isn’t a rekindling of mike and els relationship but a buildup to a queer love story

its not that mike and el have been a perfect couple and mike and will are gonna come out of nowhere it makes sense WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT keyword think i spend so much time thinking about this show that it makes sense to me

but the audience who don’t and just watch the show and leave it at that and wait for the season may at first be shocked by this . byler being canon would be huge and i think some people overlook the importance of queer representation in media.

but this will force them to think at first they might be like oh its so sudden but then when they think about how mlvns relationship has been falling apart since s3 and how mikes character changed and his attitude towards will changed it’ll be such an ohhhh moment.

byler is there u just have to pay attention and understand that while it might not be glaringly obvious there may be a point to that

el has been pushed to use her anger as a source for energy by other characters until now. she was told by henry to use a memory that made her angry to better control her powers, and then number 008 also said the same thing to her. whenever she used her powers fueled by anger, although it was true that she was powerful, it never really quiet worked out for her. what gave her true strenght was familial love (ie: remembering terry saying ily). that's why mike's love confession couldn't give her the strenght she needed. mike was trying to provide her with romantic feelings (which were also a lie), what she needed was platonic/familial love. her story is literally a found family trope idk what's so hard for ga to understand.

the thing that i always go back to when i've got byler doubt is the fact that the duffer's have ALREADY made a character gay instead of going with the heterosexual relationship the audience was expecting with robin and steve.

they don't care about homophobic backlash they're gonna make people gay regardless and have fun with it
