Bruce Lee wearing his sexy and iconic yellow jumpsuit in Game of Death (partially filmed in 1972, but Lee's untimely passing at the age of 32 in 1973 required the movie to be completed with doubles and trick photography, resulting in the film's delayed release five years later in 1978). The jumpsuit was custom made for Bruce by a Hong Kong tailor and he was initially shown two designs, one black with yellow stripes and the other yellow with black stripes. Bruce first chose the black jumpsuit design believing it would make him look slimmer (though he was already lithe and fit beyond belief), but he changed his mind when he realized that he wanted dirty shoe prints to show up on the costume during fight scenes, making the yellow version the preferable of the two. The form-fitting jumpsuit looked absolutely amazing on Bruce and can easily be ranked as his most memorable screen-worn costume, highlighting his physique and the cha-cha moves he incorporated into his martial arts style beautifully (Lee won cha-cha dance contests in Hong Kong during his youth and became a sought-after cha-cha instructor in America while attending university in the early-1960s). The jumpsuit later inspired knock-offs worn in the movies Revenge of the Nerds in 1984, The Last Dragon in 1985, High Risk in 1995, First Strike in 1996, Shaolin Soccer in 2001, and most famously by Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino's 2003 movie Kill Bill, which featured Thurman wearing the jumpsuit as both a belted leather one-piece (featured heavily in promotional material for the film) and a two-piece track suit style during her fight scenes. Tarantino (who had a contentious relationship with Thurman and vice-versa) later stated that Uma "hated the yellow track suit. Hated it. Didn't get it. Thought she looked like a Popsicle. She was just not into it. She had no idea who Bruce Lee was, practically. I finally had to show her Game of Death. She sorta kind of got it. Now, since then, it's become this totally iconic thing. And she probably doesn't even remember it. But she was like, 'You're trying to make me look like a clown!'" The jumpsuit has also been depicted in the Grand Theft Auto video games and even appeared on the cartoon character Sandy Cheeks in an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. Collectible dolls and action figures of the legendary Bruce Lee wearing the yellow costume have also been sold in recent years, and the original jumpsuit as worn by Lee in Game of Death was sold in December of 2013 to an anonymous buyer at a highly anticipated auction in Hong Kong, fetching the impressive sum of $100,500 after a fevered frenzy of bidding.
