I haven't draw the miraculous forms of others... not that I didn't thought of any. I drew tons of sketches for the potential designs for each character but the ones I'm only satisfied on are the miraculous designs of Dogday, Catnap, Baba Chops, and Simon Smoke.

For their civilian selves, however, I got to sketching. Here's the whole Smiling/Nightmare Critter cast:

I'm dropping the ones based on my docs lol, some details can change overtime.

Forgive the cringe :'))) I'm trying my best to make it sense both as a Miraculous story and a Poppy Playtime story

You notice some of them have very specific surnames. You can kinda guess what ethinicities I have hc for some of them. I did a lot of searching for it, so hopefully it ain't offensive. But please!! inform me if it is, and i'll change it

If you notice, Edgar has TWO identites. Because plot twist: they're also working for the same guy Catnap is devoted to!! GASP!! They received their miraculous along side Theodore, and at first worked behind the scenes. They only decided to ditch and change their identity when their friends started getting their miraculouses AND were actively using it

As for Edgar's reasons to use and follow, it's mostly for personal reasons. But once their friends are involved, they started to use it as a way to stand with them (they prioritize their friends)

most of the nightmare critters are a bit older than the smiling critters

Contemplating whether to make some of the Smiling Critters attend different schools (like that of other magical girl shows) or should they ALL attend the same school... I don't know yet, tbh. But for now? making them attend the same school

Similarly, I'm contemplating whether to make the nightmare critters attend in the same school the smiling critters go to or not. For now I'm making them attend a rival school. They'll all meet during a big field trip or city festival

The nightmare critters are mean-spirited teens, but they're more likely to keep to themselves if left unbothered. They're only cruel because it's their defense mechanism of being mistreated and bullied by more popular/well-known students

---LORE FLOW [timeline on when they received and used miraculouses + other lore context] ---

Subtle akumatizations have been occurring but they're not public knowledge yet

Theodore and Edgar first receive their miraculouses. Both decide to test out their powers and do the "mystery" person's bidding in secret

Weeks later, Dennis receives his miraculous in his locker. A few minutes later the first public akumatization (Huggy Wuggy) occurred. When Dennis first turned Dogday, that's when Theodore started to publicly show himself and intervene as Catnap

Dogday and Catnap are the only ones to be actively use the miraculous in public. Edgar still works in secret, but Theodore knows this. This occured for months

In between, a special trio (they function similarly to Master Fu in this au) introduce themselves to Dennis. He starts learning stuff about the miraculous, and how they have a few and are searching for the others, especially the Ladybug's. Dennis wanted to tell Catnap about them but they prohibited him, so Catnap is still clueless about their existence (remember - Theo and Dennis still don't know each others' identities!)

In Halloween, Jolyne finds a miraculous, which was actually found by her mom. She steals it to gift it to Elizabeth. Elizabeth eventually discovers its use and at first, used it to keep everyone at bay, but then later used it to try to beat Dogday to shut him up (she fails) (she gets away with the miraculous though)

A day later, Elizabeth is approached by Harley Sawyer (via akuma maybe), who gives her promises w/ being free from her "suffering" and honing her powers... typical manipulation stuff. Elizabeth first resists but eventually after a few weeks gives in

Plot reveal that Sawyer actually have some of the other miraculouses, he just didn't see any point on risking in using them until he witnessed the halloween incident

One by one, the others got their miraculous, and soon the Nightmare Critters were now becoming an active threat (well, not too active. They join in when they feel like it. They're teenagers after all)

Edgar was eventually offerred a miraculous, which they refused - giving off the impression that they found the superpowered ability to be lame and overrated. Deep down, it's giving Edgar a dilemma

Not prepared to fight multiple users for long, Dennis went to the special trio for help. That's when they started to trust Dennis to choose miraculouses to help them fight

Naturally, Dennis chooses his friends bc he knew them best, but they do return it to him after each fight. Some get to keep it for a few days when the fights get worse

When Dogday starts doing this, Catnap became suspicious of him. Catnap is then surprised that Dogday refuses to tell him about where he got the miraculouses (Dogday never kept things other than his identity to himself). Likewise, Dogday started wondering why Catnap is getting more interested on the miraculouses he's giving away temporarily for aid. A rift of trust is starting.

In one of the fights, one of the nightmare critters eventually gets defeated. Dogday and Catnap were about to confiscate the miraculous when Covert intervenes and stops them, giving the defeated critter time to escape. Catnap had to pretend he didn't know who they were

Catnap and Edgar eventually meet up in secret, where they usually meet w/ their "mystery" guy. Edgar ends their dedication to the "mystery" person, unfazed of the threats.

It was a long anticipated thing ngl. Peepaw willy was slasher material, as much as I hate him. So when it was announced that he was coming it wasn't too much of a shocker. Though I didn't expect they would find a way to implement the security door thing too. Tbh it's cool... and kinda goofy haha

There's def plently of funny potential between the killers and him lol like I've seen a few fanmade stuff about them and it's HILARIOUS

I'm not sure if that's all they added ngl. I'll check next time lol

Now I'm not sure whether to keep Catnap's civilian self as Theodore Grambell or change it entirely to a different person like Dogday's. I'm kinda concerned about this part because I got jokes and thoughts which I similarly made from MLB itself (like the romantic shippy stuff) but I' bothered at how weird it's gonna be because by canon, Theodore's literally a young kid. That's weird, man. Yeah he's a bit aged up here (around 14) but still?!?! Like ngl the only reason I used him bc of the premise of the au, but I really wanna focus it more on the toy/mascot lore. Where it's more of the toys themselves rather than the kids thst were used to expirament, and the akumatizations are only references of that but are not particularly the actual whole thing.

Dogday and Catnap

unfortunately I'm talking more about this oughh... I have a lot of thoughts about these two

thoughts + a poll thingy about Catnap under the cut

I repeatedly said that they're besties but bc they are!! that's literally what Dogday and Catnap's relationship is by design. Besties! Though this AU there are some "tweaks"? since they're teenagers here why not (warning: angst + cringe incoming!!)

Dennis (Dogday) absolutely cherishes their friendship. He loves all his friends, of course! But with Theo, he makes the extra effort to show it. He's usually the one who often gives Theo the benefit of the doubt. That's not to say he's an enabler to him. Erm, he kind of is, but Dennis does draw a line like when it comes to trouble-making and whatnot. He's not harsh about it, though. He's a very understanding guy.

Theodore also loves his friends, but the wounds of his traumatic past hinder him from seeing that they care for him, too. He thinks that they're just merely tolerating him, which is why he keeps a distance and don't often hang out. That and, well, he's an easily-tired introvert. Perhaps anti-social, except when it comes to kids. He's very good to kids. That's besides the point-

Y'all can tell they're a popular/unpopular duo. Dennis is in the school's sports team (thinking making it baseball bc lol "fetch" and all the running, but I'm not exactly sure how US schools work) so he can be pretty busy with practice. However! Dennis always go out his way to make room for his close friends and would much rather spend time with them instead of the team or popular cliches that are desperately trying to drag him in their group. Theo is pretty much unknown, if not infamous, especially to teachers. The main reasons are that he often sleeps during class, and the teachers can't really do anything about it because when asked to answer or talk in front, he just knows what to say. Not to mention that he's very smart, being able to ace exams with ease. And when he's feeling like it, he could challenge teachers of their profficiency of their subject by asking them hard questions or callout inaccuracies/facts, making their attempts to humiliate him backfire. He... may or may not have landed in detention from time to time.

Dennis and Theodore have been friends for a long time. They were closer when they were younger, though when they entered middle school, that's where their friendship became a little more loose. Dennis (and friends) would love to hang out with Theo more, but it's kind of hard to convince the latter to join them (reasons again, are stated from above)

While the entire premise of the AU is "hehe what if their trauma forms were just akumatized/temporary villainized forms instead and they're actually (mostly) okay" this is pretty much my dilemma between them ngl

ML x Smiling Critters Au

- Getting Akumatized in the Au

Dropping some thoughts about it here:

I wrote somewhere in my docs (yeah I put this idea in my docs) about how Harley Sawyer would akumatize people, and I have this clear idea that he'd do them a lot more directly compared to Gabriel and Lila's style

From what I observed, Gabriel and Lila always act as an empathizer. But the drastic difference is that Gabriel acts more like a genie, a man of power giving something they "need." While Lila pretends to be a perfect friend, a "support" that gives an illusion of choice to her victims, an enabler as you will. I believe Harley Sawyer would go differently, if not more controlling

As far as I understand his character, he's a cold narcissist. One can argue that both Lila and Gabriel also share this characteristic, but I truly believe Harley's more distinct and obviously different because, well, he's a doctor. He prides himself as a genius, a scientist, so in his mind, his logic and senses are always "accurate." He's probably right. Makes him all the more condescending and a calculating jerk.

So in this au, Harley's style of akumatizing someone is a lot different. He won't act like an empathizer or a pitier to his victims, but rather act like a cold, observant "therapist." Of course, when victims are greeted with his bluntness, they will naturally try to resist his control at first because no one likes to be told they're wrong. But that's where his style comes in handy. Rather than going, "I feel your pain/understand your anger/feelings," etc. He lays out the facts, digging the victim further into their emotion. Is the person upset bc they were wronged? Under in debt? Just hurting? Harley rubs that on the victims. It's full of guilt-tripping and emotional manipulation. He's not gonna be there to be your friend, no, he sees you pathetic germ as you are, but not to worry, he's got the answer. That's how it's gonna go.

And what if the victim still resist? Well, it's too late to back out now. Unless they've got strong will to break it off or can calm themselves down, they'd be too far deep into their negative emotion, and from my understanding of the butterfly power, that's all Harley really needs.

With a villain like that, and no Ladybug to fix it and deakumatize the victims. How do Dogday and Catnap deal with it?

The power of ADORATION!!! aka just Dogday literally begging and bringing in all his aura (maybe even charisma? rizz?) to change the victim's mind. If not, just take away their akumatized item lol that always works.

As for the akuma butterfly, Catnap is responsible for destroying it.

So yeah, the victim was saved, but the damages stay. It's kind of why they need to work fast and carefully.

Extra note: I kinda wanna change up the powers, tbh bc let's be honest - the powers of the mireculouses are whack and confusing. Why do two or more share a similar power?? Why are yhey inconsistent??? I dunno 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Extra extra note: if Dogday/Dennis finds out the actual reason as to why Harley's terrorizing locals, he'd crash out. Literally. Beat his ass if he could. Thought y'all just need to know

Do you remember Pico Otis's cousin? Well if in your point of view Pico and Sky are adopted by the Tankman army then does Captain John have a blood relative outside the army? And if so, why does Otis look like Pico if they are not biological cousins?

I know him!! Have a different point of view of his relationship with them though.

I was actually about to draw about this! but scratched it.. so I'll tell you instead! It's not solid, but it's something I've come up with to try and fit it all

--- GET READY BECAUSE I'M GONNA RAMBLE AGAIN!! ---

In my POV (in this case, the Tankfamily AU) here are how things are:

As I've said before, Captain John is only Pico's adopter. He has no actual biological connection to him or whatsover. Same goes with Sky. Sky and Pico are siblings through adoption, nothing more. Pico and Otis, on the other hand, ARE blood related, their biological dads being brothers for this AU.

Pico doesn't have a clear image of what his biological parents are or could've been. The Captain and the others in the Tankfamily couldn't help him even if they tried because the corpses alongside the trash of where he was found have are unidentifiable. (that, and they're busy fighting in a war.)

Otis knows that his dad has a brother, but all he knew about him was he travels a lot, occasionally visits and disappeared alongside his wife whom he also barely remembers.

Because of this, Pico and Otis didn't know each other existed, neither did they know they were related. Otis only found out of Pico's existence through news about his school, then about his possible relation to him few weeks later after the incident in the mall. Otis became curious, starting to research who Pico is and if he really is what the FBI claims him to be.

Pico found out when he got kidnapped by neo-goth punks. Damien + neo-goth punks keep insisting that he's Otis's cousin, which Pico denies... until Otis's grandmother saw him and confused him of her long lost son. Pico, Otis's dad and his grandmother ended up talking inside the cage. He would've found a way to get out of there but- he decided learning about his possible biological father and family was something he'd RATHER do than escaping. Especially since at this time he was a self-loathing reclusive MESS that is in a need of reassurance.

After the fiasco, Pico decided to stay with them for a bit. He got along with them pretty well, especially with Otis. He didn't stay for too long, but he learned quite a lot from them (even got some rest from his constant inner-turmoil)

Pico visits them from time to time in the present. Otis occasionally hangs out with him alongside Nene and Darnell, and helps out with his tasks too.

Otis had been wanting to meet Pico's tankdad, btw! but with their messy relationship, Pico refuses. Maybe one day...

I guess you can say that meeting him was the best thing to ever happen to Pico in his teenhood.

That's... all I have to say for that.

TLDR: Pico and Otis are paternal cousins, who didn't know each other until the events of Pico's Cousin 1 & 2

ML x Smiling Critters Au

Students by day! Heroes by... any other time of the day. When people transform into weird creatures and terrorize the locals, it's up to Dogday and Catnap to save the day! And keep everyone alive, of course!... hopefully. Honestly, both Dennis and Theo are just trying to get through the day and attempt to maintain little normalcy that's left in their city

Could there be more to this weird phenomena than just random coincidences? Was this all planned? Will they ever find the rumored Ladybug Miraculous that is said to repair everything?

Idk if y'all even bothered to see the other post about this Au, but basically it's like a human AU where it's MOSTLY normal like. Playtime Co. didn't rly exist. Orphans were not expiramented. Maybe some grew up and became adults themselves etc. Ngl I haven't figured this part out properly, but basically a family had a hold of these miraculouses which made like, a secret orgs thst tests their abilities or something. Then stuff happens with like whistleblowing and an Agreste(tm) event. Tho to sum up my scattered thoughts on this part: they used to have all the miraculouses, but someone stole it away from them. Unfortunately for them, someone important got rly sick so they're rly desperately finding the others (LB and Cat Miraculous mostly) to cure them and yeah the current butterly user (Harley Sawyer at this point) is carrying his predecessor's wishes, but w/ an ulterior motive of course. Why is he a robot here? Mmm ngl I don't rly have any other reason for it. Just wanted to draw a robot w/ some butterfly motifs

Okay, for the story, the "toys" are just normal people, but they become their "toy" selves upon akumatization. Idk whether to base it more on the toy lore or in-game lore but I might just have to merge them both (but leaning more on toy-lore, hopefully)

There will be like, um, a mix of aging-up here, like the Smiling Critters and Nightmare Critters here are teenagers, but some characters like the human vers. of Mommy long legs is an adult. I am trying to understand the game lore but I won't be very accurate bc again, I' not rly active with it so sorry die-hard fans 🤷‍♀️

Enough of that, here are some thoughts of the main protags:

Dennis Dantes is the likable cheery athlete in school. You could say he's popular, but he doesn't rly hang out with the popular kids for too long. He'd rather spend time with the friends he made since he was young. Dennis is just honest and simple like that. He is a natural leader, but he only lets that shine through as Dogday.

Theodore Grambell is the opposite. He's a loner, troublemaker, and sleepy student that professors dislike to have in class. And yet, he is beloved by his friends, Dennis mostly! While he keeps quiet as himself, he's nearly dead silent as Catnap. He lets Dogday take the lead with saving the day, but at the end of the day, it's his cataclysm that really matters in an akuma crisis. Unlike Dennis, he knows a lot more about the miraculous stuff, thanks to some... shady figure

When the first meeting, Catnap and Dogday weren't sure of each other. It took some time and akuma-fighting for Dogday to actually understand Catnap, and for Catnap to tolerate Dogday's overbearing "as heroes, we have to blah blah blah" mindset. This is ironic, btw, because as civilians, they are both the bestest of friends. Closest. Dennis always pounces at Theo every time he sees him, then talks his ear off, and Theo wouldn't mind, and would just be happy to be with him

Story starts with Dennis getting his miraculous via finding it in his locker. Theo got his few weeks prior (thanks to shady figure). Since this is an alt universe, events went differently, so kwamis like Barkk behave a little differently from canon. Barkk here is a lot more strict with rules and has to asert common sense to Dennis when he gets too carried away by his heart. That said, Dennis and Barkk are good with each other. As for Plagg, he and Theo are awkward AF. I imagine that Theo's not much of a conversationalist in general, so you can guess who does most of the talking. Plagg's also desperately trying to convince Theo that MAYBE idk that the shady guy is??? Not to be trusted?? It falls on deaf ears, unfortunately

There ARE guardians of the miraculouses here lol they just don't have the Ladybug miraculous bc the former user crashed out and dipped. They are searching for it and later on, after Dennis meets them, he helps them search for it

Do their friends get a miraculous? Do the nightmare critters get a miraculous too (then cause mayhem?) Maybe, maybe not. Heehehehehee ( =＾ω＾)

OH also this AU is set in 2005 bc um to match the game setting idk [insert South Arcade - 2005]
