I wonder who was the first to say that. That makes absolutely no sense unless james is an all-knowing prophet who knows at his early school years that snape WILL be a deatheater. Of course it makes perfect sense to just bully the guy who has no idea what his fault is and literally lead him to it, instead of trying to stop him from being a deatheater lol

Let's face it: Snape is an ultimate braid of Lilly's to pull to get her attention, that is exactly what James did, we literally have it in the book, black on white. Everyone else just followed his lead inventing silly justifications for it in process, end of story
