I haven’t told anyone because I’m filled with guilt...

Today I was driving down a neighbourhood road and hit a cat. I didn’t do anything because I didn’t realise until it was too late and by time I went back it was gone. I don’t know what to do...I’m filled with guilt and self hatred. That was somebodies beloved pet and now I don’t know if I killed it or if I injured it or whatever.
