People put a lot of expectations on Diamont, which is something that brings him a lot of stress. And with everything that's happening/happened with the war against the Fell Dragon, those expectations weigh even heavier with his new responsibilities in leading his country.

So when illness strikes, Diamant has a choice to make: rest for a day and potentially be seen as weak, or tough things out. The fever makes him choose the latter.
