Learning one of your headmates' trauma is a lot deeper than you thought and that they are going through more pain than you can imagine is so upsetting especially when you start feeling their pain. Even worse is when they want to talk about it but are too scared or have nobody to tell about it

Do you think we trans men and mascs will ever be loved and accepted in our own community? Sorry if I didn't word it the best, this whole situation has really depressed me. I just want to spread love and be loved back as I'm seen for who I am, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way...

By every single person within it? No. That would be nice. We would prefer that. But there will always be someone with a stick up their ass.

But by a sizable portion of the community? Anon, friend, we already are.

It’s easy to focus on things like, just as an example, the mods on r/trans not only feeling comfortable silencing a trans man and telling him to “quit bitching” and expecting this would be fine. But you can’t forget things like the backlash to that. The number of people who purposefully went and posted something positive about trans men and criticizing the mods, knowing they’d be banned, and wearing that ban like a badge of honor as they move to one of the new trans subreddits that cropped up in the wake of this.

I post a shit load about the bad parts. The ones who openly hate us. But I do it because I‘ve seen in the offline queer spaces I’ve been in how this is not normal. I go to a local trans support group meeting. It’s mostly transfems with a few other guys and sometimes a nonbinary person who doesn’t fit into transmasc or transfem. It doesn’t feel like a support group in the traditional sense. It feels like a friend group. It feels like I’m just going out some nights to hang with friends and eat cheap pizza and talk about our lives. And when one of us is going through some shit, we don’t first ask what their gender is and where they stand on the privilege-oppression sliding scale. We just help each other cause we’re friends and we’re all going through some shit. And we all went there to look for community with someone who shares our experiences and maybe get advice.

That’s anecdotal, I know. But… if this group can be like that, surely so can the rest of the community.

Not to mention, since this kicked off on tumblr, I’ve met so many people, many of whom are transfem or transneutral or transmasc or two out of three or all at once. And they don’t just accept us. They’re vocally supporting us. They’re listening to us when we speak.
