Sometimes I like to think back to the time I told my mom I wanted a therapist to talk to, but that I felt that her and my father would benefit far more from speaking to one. That moment forever changed something in me, I’ve never been brave enough to say something even close to that and ever since I’ve been able to voice my grievances much more openly. I was taught for 16 years that I shouldn’t be emotional or vulnerable around others and in that moment I chose to change that. It’s kind of funny how easily it was to break that taught habit once I made my mind up. The weight that came off my shoulders when I realized that I didn’t have an obligation to my parents in the way that they have an obligation to me. Crazy thoughts, eh?

I hate when people say “I’m against abortion except for if the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother” every single pregnancy threatens the life of the pregnant person. We’ve gotten too far removed from that, taken for granted that pregnancy is safe. It is not. Pregnancy and puerperal complications have been a fairly common cause of death throughout history. Even now, maternal mortality is on the rise in the US, the maternal mortality rate varies wildly across the states and it is disproportionately higher for Black women. Being pregnant is getting more dangerous, not less dangerous.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of this as not only an artist, but an admirer of the show.

I have yet to finish the show, but I’ve been watching for a while now and have even shared my love for the show with many people in my family regardless of the fact that I’m the only one who actually likes anime. I even dressed up as law for Halloween along with my younger cousins as Bepo and Chopper. Hell, I even plan on becoming an animator or mangaka because of how much I love the show, but I wish they had more diverse representations. The casting in the live action that is filled with such dedicated and inspiring people truly displayed diversity of the characters that I wish was showed more in the show.

I truly hope Toei and Oda, along with many people in the one piece fan base see how wrong it is to lack any sort of representation of other skin tones besides white. Like come on all of us can do better than this.

I simply don’t care how delusional I know I am. I know for a fact that Zosan is absolutely impossible, but the absolute care, sweetness, tenderness, passion, and undertones of sexual tension in every piece I see is every OUNCE of serotonin I CRAVE. I adore how much effort the one piece community puts into creating such comforting and engaging pieces.
