Certified mobility aid positivity post!
Well I finally got a rollator. Still having mixed feelings about it but it has been a godsend during this flare. I can actually still cook for myself and do some chores.

Descriptions (two images and a video) ⤵️
[Image 1: A photo of a portion of a black cane that has painted stripes in the asexual flag colours (black, grey, white, purple), lesbian flag colours (red, orange, white, light pink, darker pink), and non-binary flag colours (yellow, white, purple, black). /end ID]
[Video/gif: a person is sitting on the floor holding their cane (black) and rotating it so that two portions of painted decoration are on display. One portion shows a pattern of green eyes. The second shows bronze paintings of cogs and wheels. A cup of paint brushes and a pallet of paints are sitting on the floor in the background. The video is a few seconds long and loops /end VD]

From the comments: "rubber tip replacement entirely depends on the cane, generally it's just a matter of brute force yanking the tip off. i dont see why it shouldn't come off, just pull really hard or get someone else to and it should just pop right off"
i've sent an ask saying i was about to get a cane a few weeks back i think? anyway holy shit it IS an instrument of freedom. i feel so much more confident now. sometimes both my legs are bad but even then it helps walk and reduces pain and tiredness a bunch. i've been outside like 8 times by now including some long journeys and haven't had to take an hour long forced break sitting on some random ass floor so far!! (not that random actually. local tesco i hate you. a giant supermarket in a giant mall in a giant hall with no seating next to it, i've gone through checkout on spite and inertia and then collapsed right in front of it multiple times... anyway at least that shouldn't be happening to me anymore...)
i'm kinda concerned for the cane's longevity because i chose a foldable one and i really don't trust elastics and it's really unclear if its rubber end is actually replaceable (how hard is taking it off supposed to be?) but whatever it should definitely last a few months and i've got no idea where my life is gonna be at in a few months anyway. also turns out i can't go grocery shopping with my usual foldable bag anymore because carrying my groceries in one arm means i'm not gonna be able to use the cane in that arm for the next day, so at least now i'm finally establishing good backpack carrying habits.
Yay! So happy to hear that the cane is helping you!
I know a lot of folding canes can have the rubber tip replaced but I don't know if it's all of them. Maybe someone else can jump into the comments and let us know?
As for the longevity of the other parts, it's so hard to say how long it will last because it depends on so many factors but again, maybe other people can weigh in with recommendations for sturdy options?

Hi! Welcome! This blog is all about celebrating mobility aids, prosthetics, and other assistive tools for the freedom and autonomy they give us! Mobility aids don't ruin the fit. Mobility aids don't need to be ugly. Using aids and assistive tools isn't giving up. Aids, prosthetics, and assistive tools give us independence and support us as we interact with a world that is not built for us.
Below the cut, you will find info about:
blog header 🩷 gif project 💛 submissions 🩵 asks 💚 blog owner
About the blog header
This blog's header features real people and their mobility aids. I'd still like to get a greater diversity so if you would like to be featured, submit your pics via an ask...
Open to all mobility aids, prosthetics, braces, and assistive tools.
If your photo shows your face or any identifying features, please make sure you're ok with that being publicly visible.
Please only send photos with a decent resolution.
Please don't send more than 5 photos.
Submitting a photo doesn't guarantee it will be featured
Gif Project
I've noticed there's not many gifs of mobility aids available so I'd like to make some...
If you have video of your mobility aid (doesn't have to show you) that you would be happy to make public, please send it via an ask or DM and I can turn it into a gif! MP4 is the best format to submit your material in for this project.
Submissions
Submissions are welcome; show off your aids, share a story of how aids improve your life, share a recommendation, or anything else that is a celebration of mobility aids, assistive tools, and prosthetics.
Asks
Asks are always open (including anon). I can't guarantee I can answer all questions but I will do my best to direct you to resources when I can't give a direct answer. Sometimes I will just post your question so that other followers can answer.
Who runs this blog?
Currently, this blog is run by @fibromyalgicaf.
Hi! I'm a 30-something person (they/them) living with fibromyalgia and a few other chronic illnesses which have removed me from the workforce so this blog is one of the ways I keep myself somewhat busy. I am a mobility aid user myself; I use a self-propelled wheelchair and a cane. I am not an expert in mobility aids or anything disability related (I'm fairly new to the disability community and still learning a lot). I'm simply here to spread awareness, and encourage positivity and pride about disability aids.
